I live in. Patio Villa. The QF line terminates in front of my house. I would like to hear from a Patio Villa that recently installed QF.
1. Where did they enter your Villa with the SNID?
2. I have a landscape curbing between my house and line point in front. Is that a problem?

Our installation is Tuesday am. Any idea how long it will take to run wiring and teach us how to use it?

It will depend on the tech that does the work. You need to tell me what Village you are in and the type of house and if the fiber was installed when the home was built or is this new fiber.

So, usually what I see is, if the Quantum Tech is familiar with your home type it should only take about an hour to install but although they will set up some Wifi devices and maybe your phone, Its your responsibility to get all your Wifi devices working. This is why you want to reuse your existing Wifi network ID and password if you can. Don't expect the Quantum or the Cable tech to spend an additional hour getting all your devices working especially if you have a smart home or cameras or anything more than the TV, computer and a printer. Generally the Quantum Techs know and have experience to keep the install reasonable but then again I've see a couple of installs where it could take a while. It's the same with the Cable techs. The more prep work you do the faster the install will be.

As most know, I help people get installed with Quantum Fiber. I've done enough installs in the past couple of years to know exactly where to put the main Wifi pod and if necessary any extenders. I try not to use the extenders unless the home is very large like a Premier. I also, can do all the pre-wiring so the installation takes under an hour. I also help get everything running after the install especially if you have a smart home or anything complicated. I don't have a business, just helping my friends, neighbors, and fellow Villagers cut the cord and switch to fiber.

The problem is if your home is large like a Premier or you have an complex layout, positioning the Wifi pod is critical for good performance. If you have your own wifi system, it's usually best to plug the Quantum router into your existing system and I can show you how to put the Quantum router in bypass mode so you are not double NAT'ing in this situation.

Once it's up and running there is nothing to learn except your SSID and password.

We closed on a house in Bonita in April and had Quantum Fiber installed. They had to trench the cable from the street to the house and put a box on the outside of the house because while the service was available in our neighborhood, there was not Quantum Fiber previously routed to the house. They did that before our appointment for the install. We were not there when they ran the line to the house, but saw no evidence of the work, other than a few small flags marking the location of the fiber line in the yard. On install day, the tech had to drill a hole from the outside to the inside of the garage where the main box is located. The tech then put the inside main pod in the most centrally located area in the house that provided the best coverage, which was in the spare bedroom near the living room (we have a Gardenia model). He tested the strength in several areas, including the lanai to make sure the signal strength was good. We only needed the one router inside. The tech let us pick our own WiFi password and gave us a basic overview. The entire install took about an hour. We have several cameras and other “smart” devices connected with no problems. We are loving Quantum Fiber so far!

Don’t use extenders, it’s like putting lipstick on a pig, it’s still a pig. Do your internal lab right with a mesh network that is wifi 6e or newer. I have been doing networks since 1990, and I never use extenders. In my 2400 sq ft home, I use 4 mesh network routers, in my buddies premier home, I used 5 mesh network routers. I use both wired and wireless to each mesh router and when using wifi 6e between the mesh routers, I use their proprietary 2.5ghz backhaul. Every outside camera, grill, garage doors and sprinkler systems get very good coverage, and inside I get over 800Mb from our iPhones/iPads in any room of the house.

Also, you never want to use the default ssid with your new provider. Why would you want to change every device on your network to point to either the 2.4ghz or 5ghz wifi ssid. I’ve been using the same 1 ssid for decades. All you need to do is go into the router and change both the 2.4ghz and 5ghz ssid to the name you have been using. Then all of your other devices will work just fine, you might have to restart or refresh each device.

You don’t need to make your internal lan complicated.

Is fiber ever going to be extended south, into the St Johns area?
I wish I had fiber, have Verizon FiOS up north and love it. Fiber is much better than the copper services.

While what you mention is totally the best solution, not everyone is able or wants to spend the extra money setting up their own system.

When I help someone who has a very large home such as a Premier, If I need an extender pod, I always use it with a wired backhaul. This way the main and extender pods are hard wired and I'm able to get very good coverage.

I put conduit from their box to front of house. The demark is in garage. They put it direct bury first about 3 inches deep. Was hit in about a week. Conduit was the answer. I have a patio villa

Everyone including myself is asking when fiber will be available in our individual neighborhoods, is there an actual roll-out 'plan' with dates for each area or is it a secret for some unknown reason??

I'm sure there is a roll-out plan but I'm also sure we will not have access to it. I know they are expanding in the Bonita and Liberty Park areas. South of 44, nothing that i've seen.

We had ours installed Monday. Took maybe 1.5 hours. Very efficient. Hooked up in our spare bedroom. Trench from road to bedroom narrow almost hard to see. I took the slowest speed, don’t stream or play games.

And how critical is the placement of the router since I like to keep those electronic components in a specific location. Right now, with Xfinity router I get coverage except very weak to 1 room and use an extender to cover that.

We have a 2000 sf Gardenia model. We put the router in the bedroom closest to the living room and we get a consistent Wi-Fi signal throughout the house and onto the large lanai. The Quantum Fiber installation tech did a signal check all over the house before leaving to ensure we only needed one router pod.

In speaking with one of the Quantum techs today during an install, I realized Quantum is installing new fiber in areas of the Villages where the old Century Link copper phone lines were installed because they already have the "Right-of-Way". Since they have the Right-of-Way they can dig up the street and install new fiber.

In areas South of Rt44 where there is no fiber, probably means no Right-of-Way so in my opinion that reduces the chances dramatically for Quantum or anyone else to install new fiber in these area.

I have no idea why Quantum or Centric didn't install fiber in Chitty Chatty, Bradford, Richmond and other areas south where you can only get cable. Starting in Dabney, Centric Fiber pre installs the fiber in the new home builds.

The effectiveness of the Quantum WiFi7 system will depend on the type of home construction, it's layout, proper placement of the devices and if you can hard wire the backhaul on the extender.

Fortunately, I have a lot of experinece and have installed them even in very large premier homes with great success. So, Please PM me and we can discuss your situation if you like.

Quantum came back today 10 days after starting up to bury the fiber.

Should have done this 6 months or so as we were paying much more to Xfinity for a lesser service.

After I turned in the equipment they offered me coupon for a limited amount of time so as to pay a lesser amount. Told the guy they should have offered this when I asked for a better rate but now the ship has sailed.

Since than they have sent me text telling me equipment was not returned (made sure I got a receipt for returning their equipment) and a letter telling me still owe a balance without giving any info how they arrived at this or even given me telephone number to call in order to get an explanation.

Was told Tuesday morning that the appointment had been can called, and that they would get in touch to set up a new one. It's been a week, and no such contact. Calls to Quantum's 'service' line produce no answers, other than putting me on hold indefinitely until I give up and hang up. Tired of being treated like dirt. Should I find a new ISP?

As most here know, I help Villagers sign up all the time and help them with their Quantum install.

The reason why you got that e-mail is because there is a delay activating the service at your specific home. Trust me, they will 100% send you an email within a week to set up another appointment.

There are many reasons why a delay can happen. Please PM me if you would like to discuss.

I was told by them, sometime in 2026. In the meantime I switched to Spectrum, got 1 gig speed for $50/month. One of their local sales reps knocked on my door. So far, its been way better than xfinity which seemed to slow down almost every night. His name and number is Lysander Jimenez, 352-239-3538. Good luck on your endeavors.

I spoke to the person who said Quantum didn't call him back. What actually happened was he signed up, got an install date then was told the install had to be re-scheduled because they couldn't do the installation.

This happens every once in a while where there is something in the install chain that is preventing the installation. I do know from experience, that they will call and reschedule the install once the problem is corrected. Sometimes you need to wait a week but you will be re-scheduled.

One of the issues Quantum is facing is so many are cutting the cord, leaving cable and signing up, especially in the newer areas that they are getting overwhelmed. I'm not saying this is an excuse but this is part of the problem.

From what I can say from actual experience, this can happen but its not common.
