I have stopped buying fries from full service restaurants because they are usually not hot, too thick, and they lack flavor. The fries at McDonald's and Wendy's are way better and less expensive than any full service restaurant that I have tried. Does anyone have a restaurant recommendation for fries?

You'd have to be in SoCal, but The Habit's fries are the best!! Second fave actually has a bunch of Florida locations (expanding), FatBurger. Big wide fat steak fries, yummy!

Six months ago I could name more than 6 in the bubble restaurant that served perfect fry. Not greasy, crunchy exterior yet fluffy inside. A few restaurants are now serving sidewinder fries, which have become popular in non chain restaurants.

McD’s fries will still look the same from day one between your seat to 5 years later. Restaurant fries will mold within days.

I'm a fan of Five Guys fries. They're not crispy, they're actually pretty limp. But they're pretty amazing tasting. A natural "sweet" nuttiness that comes from the skins being left on when they slice them.

Agree. Very tasty.
If you ask for them well done they will be firmer/crisper.
Warning: grossly overpriced

I can remember buying the original Boardwalk Fries in Ocean City, Maryland and in malls in Maryland and Virginia. Those fries would put most Villages restaurants to shame.

Actually, when you compare the price for a side of fries in a full service restaurant, the Five Guys price is not too bad, especially after adding the tip.

BurgerKing does a good job on their fries. If you want them really hot, ask to have a serving fro the next batch.

Worst thing about 5Guys is when I get there and find out my online order is ready and I don’t have five minutes to stand around and eat the peanuts. Some have gone with me at times.

It's like every peanut shell has big white blanched peanuts inside, never those tiny dark brown rotted ones. Should rename themselves "5 Guys Peanuts" and sell what they're really best at doing.

If I eat them at home, I put them in the air fryer to crisp.

I like the Parmesan fries at Mccracken’s pub in Leesburg. Okay, they are not a stereotypical French fry but are excellent. If you want to take it up a notch, try the Shepard’s fries.

I keep a record of who has good fries and who has bad fries (I also do coleslaw and onion rings). I like the fries at Bonifay country club and at Beef O'Bradys. Darrell's Diner and 5 Guys are bad. Gators are so-so. By keeping my list, I know what to order at each place :)

5 Guys are good; although sometimes inconsistent. Best fries, to me, goes to Mission barbecue. Also very good are the fries at DQ. The burgers there taste a bit too much like burger king, but the fries are great. We generally like the fries at Ramshackle, but this past weekend I thing they rushed them out of the fryer and were not quite ready. Kind of a bummer. But usually very good.

I haven't had their fries but, will try them.

However, I did get to Mission BBQ (on 441) for the first time last week for a pulled pork sandwich and....wow....was that good! I partook of the Smoky Mountain bbq sauce and because I was chatting with the guy about horseradish he also gave me a little container of their mayonnaise-based horseradish sauce....both sauces were also excellent.

I worked at McD in the mid 60’s. Our fri guy came in a couple hours before opening. The real potato was washed, peeled and sliced. Blanched in baskets, twice, then hung on a wall rack. The next time the fries hit the oil, they came out ready to eat. No one spends that time anymore.

Just a few months ago the best fries in all of The Villages was at RJ Gators in Lake Sumter Landing. But now they have changed their fries to just plain ordinary. So sad

I agree, and most of the time I do. But, if full service restaurants want to stay in business, they need to offer food that is at least better than the fast food restaurants. With fries, I think most of them have failed, and I won't buy them anymore.

It always amazes me how some places are always so crowded, but Mission isn't. Glad you discovered it. Really good food and as a bonus they support veterans and first responders.

Went there for the first time last week. Food was good but everything is ala carte and overall seemed expensive.

Will say all the employees were very friendly and helpful .

The next time will be the first time.

I should make an appt with a cardiologist to ask about fries? Should I also plan to visit a Chipotle if I feel a pain in my chest?

Whatever I choose (for sandwich or entree), I add the "XL Combo". Slightly better than getting everything a la carte. But I will grant you it is not the most economical place for lunch (it's easy to spend more at other places for dinner). But it's not the worst either. And I can say I've never walked out disappointed (which I can't say for most places). But I get it (comment about price).

However, since the topic is fries, I'd put their's against anybody's.
