Ryan O^Cull has a very good reputation on here.
Have a problem with our garage door sometimes sticking going up. Also mvp controller stopped working awhile ago and via ebay bought new one. Put it on and still does not work.
Asked Ryan for service call and he said call Romac as he does not do both parts of the job and Romac would.
Called Romac awhile ago and they told me to look for an mvp controller and have someone else install it.
Any suggestion who else to contact?
Thanks Stu

Sounds like it would just be easier to let Romac replace your garage door opener and adjust the door while they’re there.

Are you talking about the keypad in the garage?

Did you complete the reprogramming procedure for the new remote control? Also, the super control (wall mount unit in the garage) can have problems after several years of use in the garage. This can usually be fixed by disassembly of the unit and cleaning the contacts with alcohol. Also, if the problem only occurs when the garage door is going up you may have a broken spring or a spring that is out of adjustment. With the door down, release the RED handle and see if you can raise the door, if not the springs need to be checked. If you can raise the door, there are 2 adjustments on the MVP motor operator that contact safety features for raise and lower, and the raise one may be out of adjustment.
Hope this helps.

I once called Ryan 3 times and didn't ever get a return call ... then I heard he wasn't doing garage doors anymore ... then I heard he was.

I’ve heard good things about Ryan, but both times I called him I didn’t get a call back. As Bill Belichick once said, availability and dependability are more important than ability.

Thanks Stu It's much more cost effective to go to Lowe's, buy a garage door opener and have them install it. I bought one on sale, paid around $350 installed has Wi-Fi much quieter

Lowes did not try to upsell. We had a company try to do a rebuild on the entire door. Lowes would be a safe bet.

Hi Stu,
I have 2 MVC openeres that work fine sitting in my attic. They were removed the end of June this year and worked fine before I replaced them with Linear openers. Not sure if what you're after is in the opener itself or ??.

Who is Scott? I paid a lot of money to have broken springs replace and the garage door tuned up. Now it will not always fully open and I can’t get the guy to come back. Need someone I can trust and will not charge me a lot.
Thanks

Look into a wall mount Garage door opener. They are pricey, but come with battery backup, no bar down the middle of the garage. They mount on the wall and connect to your spring bar. Also super quiet. I think there is a lot less to maintain with it.

I have used Scott Cowan, and I recommend him. You can expect to pay about $350-400 to have both springs replaced.
I have also used Ryan O'Cull, and I recommend him. His number is 352-207-5668 or 352-617-0522.

Try Steve at 585-733-5166. I sold him my controls when I replaced both of my MVP openers. He seemed very knowledgeable.

You can't install a new keypad without syncing it to overhead opener. Google your model for instructions.

Can you tell us what Hometown did for you? Was it a new garage door opener, garage door springs, or something else. I know Ryan and Scott get regular endorsements on TOTV but I’m also interested in other service options.

Don’t spend good money after bad. Replace that MVP opener with something else, anything else would be better. Just read what others on here say about how happy they are after MVP was replaced. I replaced with Chamberland and very happy about it. But really anything else would be better than that clunky, loud obsolete MVP, even a chipmunk in a cage would be better.

Home Depot has this one for $289 add $178 installation. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Chamberlain-3-4-HP-LED-Smart-Quiet-Belt-Drive-Garage-Door-Opener-with-Battery-Backup-B4613T/316307820
I did 2 of these myself for less than what Romac wanted to fix 1 of theirs.

Thanks for your help all.
No way would I try doing this myself. I will go to someone well trained in garage door repair and maintenance. I care more about the sticking than the golf cart garage but since I wrote this did stop sticking. lol
