Berkshire Hathaway is buying shares of United Healthcare. They are NOT taking over the company.
They would only buy shares if it were a viable business, and they believe they can make a profit on it.

The question is if UHC is now a value trap, which will remain undervalued for a long period of time, due to lawsuits and potential reduced funding resulting in recipients getting less benefits or having to pay more.
good luck to us

BRK is by far the largest holding in my portfolio. The folks running it are far smarter and better informed than I am. I continue to have faith in this outfit.

Doesn't matter. Buffet famously stated that his favorite holding period was FOREVER.

Doesn't matter. Buffet famously stated that his favorite holding period was FOREVER.
his favorite holding period is forever for his acquisitions. .
however, his investments with excess cash are another story. his holding period for excess cash investments are usually for long term, but not forever. .
He evidently isn't holding all his apple forever as he just sold 50% of his holdings this past quarter in his 13F filings. .
and his United Health is a tiny investment for him. .
Buffet likes value, and UHC at a great value, for how long, no one knows right now. . and it could be a value trap for quite awhile

Has anyone gone to jail for The Villages Medicare Fraud of almost half a billion dollars?
Wow. Just WOW!
There is NO evidence of “fraud”
There are no charges of “fraud“
There isn’t even a DOJ investigation of “fraud” on the record
Why????
BECAUSE THERE WAS NO “fraud”
And yet some people continue to post their uninformed, unsubstantiated ridiculous OPINIONS that have now escalated to discussing “jail”
Absolutely amazing what herd mentality has wrought

So true. Today, a lot of people that live here, always want to quickly blame The Villages and the Developers for anything that happens. Just like you said “herd mentality”.

No and why would they. We don’t know enough about how the over billing occurred.

His purchase of UHC stock has nothing to do with “saving” UHC.

Buy a well established company’s stock on the big dip, collect the dividend while hoping it will not be cut, and be willing to wait. (Works for me. . .Sometimes.) Everything is not about the Mag 7.

According to the bankruptcy filings TVH gross annual revenues in fiscal year (“FY”) 2024 were approximately $485,845,432.00. I didn't see what their annual expenses were but I am still looking!
They have more than 800 employees but only about 80 primary and specialty care physicians.

So true. Today, a lot of people that live here, always want to quickly blame The Villages and the Developers for anything that happens. Just like you said “herd mentality”.
In a court document filed this week, United HealthCare alleges that The Villages Health had a “record of corporate misbehavior” and points out that The Villages Health “admitted to the submission of incorrect information to its health insurance companies.” The U.S. government has stated that it is owed $361 million due to erroneous Medicare billing by The Villages Health. The over billing of Medicare and the money now owed to the government is at the heart of the bankruptcy filing.
United HealthCare explains in its filing that The Villages Health “is owned and controlled by the same individuals that own and control The Villages, an intertwined business that literally surrounds (The Villages Health.)"
“The Debtor is a closely-held family-owned company whose officers, directors and owners face hundreds of millions of dollars of liability for submitting false information to its health insurance companies,” United HealthCare said.
I'm don't think I'm going too far out on a limb here to say that one of the country's largest health insurance and managed care companies wouldn't basically names individuals if they didn't feel there was "fraud."
