Are there any companies locally that lease golf carts on a long-term basis? I am in the process of moving in to The Village of Buttonwood and would rather lease a cart long term, 1, 2 or 3 years, as opposed to buying one outright.

Any thoughts?

Considering a monthly rental is around $300, I'd say it isn't worth a long-term lease. You can buy a cart in pretty good condition for $3000 and then sell it after a year or two. So, I'd say that doing a long-term lease would be a pretty poor investment.

If you're not sure what type of cart you want, it might be worth renting the carts you're considering for a week or two. You really will know pretty quickly which is the right cart for you.

If the issue is paying up front, The Villages and I'm sure some of the other cart dealers sell on a time basis.

I think leasing a golf cart would be a good idea if the lease included a yearly check up and service for the term of the lease at no additional cost. Also if the cost of the lease was calculated by the depreciation estimate of the cart over the term of the lease the cost may not be that steep.

Mike, I've never known of a lease on anything where the actual terms of the lease include an annual check up and service. I've seen new autos offered with all regular service work for a designated period of time included as part of the deal but that's offered by the manufacturer, not the leasing company. And if the service, etc. WAS to be included as part of the lease, you've just gotta know that it's going to be reflected in the monthly lease payment, probably to a level that's not very favorable for the lessee - the leasing company is going to protect their interest!

I've know a fellow in TV who works for a small company that rents golf carts there. He says most of their current fleet of carts is leased........and that they (the lessee) are responsible for all maintenance, repairs, etc. for the length of the leases.

If you can buy a used cart right that's in pretty good shape, I'd think you could get a good percentage of your money back after using it for a year or two. JMHO!
