View Full Version : Katie Belle's Loo
I was in Katie Bells this weekend for their Sunday brunch and had the misfortune of needing to use their restroom. All I can say is that the odor of urine was overwhelming and the large waste basket was overflowing onto the floor. I’ve seen cleaner restrooms at gas stations.
For a TV owned and operated restaurant, this was surprising. I see no need to return.

I'm new to TV, but my wife and I have been to Katie Belle's several times and we thoroughly enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. I did not notice anything unusual with the men's room, so I certainly hope your experience was an anomaly.
Hopefully, you brought this to the attention of the manager.
Bon Appetit!

Maybe it's just me, but I'm always a little dumbfounded as to some of the reasons people would choose to "never" go back to a restaurant.

If they can't keep the restroom clean, you have to wonder is the kitchen.

Ironically, the restroom doesn't get that way by itself....
Generally speaking [nothing to do with Katie Belle's], I used to think it was just the mens room [bad aim... :p], but my wife tells me the ladies room is not much different...
Just saying.....
....Hopefully, you brought this to the attention of the manager.
I should not have to call the manager’s attention to the fact that the men’s room smells worse than an Iraqi latrine.

I would absolutely tell the manager! They should know of the stench.

I personally would notify management of any issues with the restroom as it is a matter of health and personal safety.
If a restroom does not have toilet paper, etc, I would tell them immediately as they might not use to public restroom but use a private restroom.
I have never witnessed Katie Belle's restroom in a state of uncleanliness but I have only visited TV twice.

I should not have to call the manager’s attention to the fact that the men’s room smells worse than an Iraqi latrine.Of course you shoudn't have to say something to the manager. He/she should have been Johnny/Jeannie on the spot with the condition of the restroom. Besides, I doubt a restaurant manager has anything better to do or to worry about other than consistantly checking out the restrooms.
However, if someone before you had said something to the manager about the problem, he/she just might have had the problem taken care of. As a result, you might have then been spared enduring the smell that was by your words, "worse than an Iraqi latrine." But, then again why should they or anyone else have to do say anything more than you should?

We go to Katie Belle's quit often--Ladies room is always clean-- My granddaughter brought it to my attention that the sign on the door as you leave says "Employees must wash hands before leaving State of FLorida"--of course after Florida the word law is there but she didn't notice that at first and thought it was hilarious---

I am not a fan of Katie Bell's but I would guess because it is as much a bar as a resturant and because of the continual traffic it is understandable that there are complaints about the rest rooms.

I've never been to an Iraqi latrine. Perhaps you could elaborate.

I've never been to an Iraqi latrine. Perhaps you could elaborate.I've never experienced one either. Maybe it's like a two-seater out-house (without TP) I once encountered at the side of the road in the West Virginia mountains! I understand the typical Iowa 2-holer outhouse is a 2 story outhouse. You do not want to use the first floor hole.

I have been there over a dozen times and it stunk three years ago, it stank the last time I was there and has usually had an oder problem and air exchange problem -- In Illinois they would close it until remedied and reinspected !!!!!!!!!!! Phew !!!

Ed, first off you live in Mass and probably voted for Kennedy, secondly you list Stonecrest as your village. You must be a resident or a guest of a resident to enter KB. I don't see a response from your sponsor to enter KB so maybe you shouldn't be there. Try the Stonecrest dancing hall. Your posts are mostly negative concerning TV. :cryin2:
First of all, I lived in Mass when I joined this forum three years ago but I’m now a permanent resident of Florida. And why are you trying to put a political spin on this?
Secondly, if you’re going to live in a community, you owe it to yourself to learn the rules and regulations. The Sunday buffet at Katie Belle’s is open to the public.
Thirdly, contrary to your opinion, I believe this is perhaps the first negative post about TV that I’ve made in over 400 posts. And it's not about TV in general, just a TV O&O restaurant, so I really don’t know where your “mostly negative” idea is coming from.
I really hope other TOTV members don’t feel this way about me.

I know I don't, Ed, I've met you in person and you're a super guy. Lots of fun.
In my opinion, I think most of the lavs in TV are pretty awful. From what I've heard from the staff at restaurants, the managers assign a newbie server the responsibility to keep the latrine's clean and stocked. That's okay maybe in a smaller restaurant, but in a large place like KB's, its got to be a daunting task. I don't understand why they don't have nice odor releasing machines in all bathrooms. Makes for a slightly nicer environment. Also, its us patrons that make it a mess, speaks volumes about us, doesn't it.

First off EdVin's posts are always pertinent, articulate and he appears to be a very intelligent gentleman. I always look forward to reading his posts.
The latrine shown above was one that I had to use in the Egyptian desert; unfortunately it was not enclosed and there were Egyptian men standing around tending to their camels. I'm still not over it.:faint:

What the heck does it matter if Ed voted for a Kennedy? I voted for Spiro Agnew in Maryland.
I know Ed is right about Sunday brunch at Katie Belle being open to the public. If he wants to eat meals in The Villages, why not? Welcome to all - even if they did vote for Agnew.
I, personally, would have informed management of a filthy bathroom on the spot. That is something that is a health hazard to the entire restaurant and should not be tolerated in any restaurant.

i vote for ed...he's a fellow tomberlin owner!!!! and also smarter than most of the posters on here by far!!
Kathie, Gracie, Duffysmom, Tbugs, and Redtail, thanks for the encouraging words. I do appreciate it. But since I ‘m open about where I actually live it leaves me vulnerable to an occasional pot shot from someone that doesn’t like something that I post.
The fact that I live in an adjacent community to TV does not preclude me from wanting to learn and share information about everything that happens in and around TV. And TOTV is the best place to go for that. The POA web site is also helpful, but usually not as timely since it’s a monthly.
But back to the subject at hand, let me mention a couple more things.
I don’t expect the manager or staff to be constantly monitoring the rest rooms. But we were there fairly early and the fact that a large four foot tall wastebasket was overflowing with used paper towels was the clue that the bathroom had not been checked in the morning and was left over from the Saturday night drinking and dancing revelers.
I normally would have talked to the manager because, as some of you know, I’m not shy about speaking my mind when it’s appropriate. But my friend had already stepped outside and I didn’t want to keep her hanging.
Well there was actually another reason I wanted to split. Somebody in one of the stalls was having a real tough time of it. For a minute I thought someone was giving birth in there.

Perhaps the source of the 'Iraqi latrine' aroma? Call the manager - have the guy tossed...... :22yikes: Ha-ha!
Bill :)
Sorry to get in on this so late, Ed, but I'm sorry you had a bad experience at Katie Belles. I don't frequent the establishment very much, but I do hope this situation wasn't something that happens too often. It seems from other posters, it's been clean when they've used the facilities.
Don't like anyone taking potshots at you Ed, your post are always ones I enjoy reading. You provide accurate information, have a great sense of humor and seem an all around nice fellow.

Thanks edvinmass, thank you for your initial post and all of your comments on this site, you always provide good information IMHO. However, your last comment may have provided too much information. Hey, a guy giving birth in the mens restroom, you probably should have stuck around for a possible photo op, you could have been a millionaire, 2 other comments.
Edvinmass, the title of this thread is Katie Belle's Loo, what is a Loo
More importantly, for all Villagers having this same problem be sure to include this as a comment in the current TV survey which starts 3/7

............Edvinmass, the title of this thread is Katie Belle's Loo, what is a Loo?...........
There are various schools of thought on the origin of the term, but you'll generally here a toilet referred to as 'the loo' in the U.K. and in some other parts of Europe.
