In my lifetime things have changed so much. I was born in 1939, and we were at war with Japan. No Japanese immigrants lived near us in Ohio. The Japanese were enemies that we saw on the news briefs when we went to the movies. We heard enough as little children to fear them and hate them too.

Now, all these years later, with so many life experiences in between, I see them as just ordinary people, terribly devastated people that my heart goes out to and who make me worry for their future.

It is cold there. It is hovering around freezing and then we hear that the nuclear reactors are blowing and there could be another quake?

I do pray for them. I don't know how to pray. Surely for comfort and restoration and some abatement of grief.

What amazes me is the courage of those trying to find survivors and bodies. Imagine trying to find someone amidst all that rubble knowing that an aftershock could collapse that rubble at any second and even cause another tsunami. It always amazes me how brave people are after a disaster.

For those wanting to donate articles, the best thing you can donate is money. It is cheaper for the relief organizations to buy items over there than try to ship them from here.

In the meantime, my heart and my prayers are with those who are living through this hell. May God keep them safe and give them the strength to face the days ahead.

My cousin is currently going to school in Japan. The internet is the only form of communication that is really working. They have rolling black outs. They are still having constant aftershocks.

Those images just break my heart.....I'm sure many of you have friends that are directly affected by this horrible event, our friends feel helpless, but we can all say prayers that will give them the strength and courage to move on....The Japanese are very resilient but this seems just overwhelming...Redwitch is right, we can all donate money...Oh my!
In our lifetime we have seen such massive natural disasters....What is next?

I have spent many weeks of training in Hitachi City which is only around 40 miles from the Nuclear Plant where they are having trouble.I was always treated like a king by these Japanese people. I hope I am not the only person that can see how civilized and orderly these people are compared to our disaster with Hurricane Katrina.

I can't begin to comprehend the shock, terror and loss that the people of Japan are suffering. I think about the children lost and it breaks my heart.
Families torn apart or lost forever...survivors possibly facing radiation threats.. the utter destruction...

The worst seems to bring out the best in people unlike the villages were the best seems to shine each day. Our prayers go out to those in Japan and we all need to do what we can to help our fellow humans in need. Our prayers are with you and only hope for the best as this affects us all now that the world is shrinking. Our economy will be affected by this largest disaster ever. Japan is the number 3 economy in the world and has debt twice their GDP, so they certainly can not afford to pay for this with more debt. I hope for their sake things can improve. Just my thoughts.
