Ok, we get to come for a week again the first week of April. Still have to wait to move...can't retire yet and this is our 6th stay. We have seen something about Tartan Day. Does anyone know what day that will be? or anything else about the celebration? We are not Scottish but it does sound like it could be fun.

My daughter and her husband will be here some of the time so...my husband and I will have the pass that you pay for (not the guest pass)... since the resident will surrender theirs. We won't have our pass until we get there and last year this prevented us from being able to sign up for Pickleball 101 due to it already being filled up. Of course, I expect to play within the rules....I mean... I know that residents come first; but we don't want to miss out if there is availablity...does anyone have any suggestions re: Pickleball?

Also, what do you residents think of us visitors attending things like....Hand and Foot or other games at the rec center. We attended in the past.... when we were guests of a resident but that is not the case this time. I sure don't want to offend especially if it is meant just for "real" residents. Also how about that Operation Shoebox...is that something we could take part in? We did it with our friend last time...this may be a closed event...not sure.... but it was fun to see all they were doing and we do like to serve.

Would it be acceptable for us to tail gate at the polo fields? or would it be odd since we don't have a group to be with? Just trying to think of things so my daughter could see the charm of the place ...since we are already hooked.

We will need to find the family pool in Hadley since my daughter and her husband are in their 20's.

Does anyone know of any events happening during the time we are there?

If there is anyone else who is visiting that week (April 3-10)and maybe want to hang out at the square or meet for dinner... let me know on this thread or PM.

Here is another thanks to TOTV. We rent from someone we found on TOTV...in Hadley on Ellenton Run....very nice!! Thanks in advance for all your helpful suggestions.

Sounds like you are renting a place in TV. If so and you pay the $50 ID fee, those passes entitle you to all events, games, pools, etc. that a resident would have.

People won't know if you're a resident, a renter, a visitor or an intruder -- rec staff check you in and you do what you want. I'm an avid duplicate bridge player. During rental season, we can be booked solid and, if you're not there early, there's a good chance you won't be playing. Not everyone who plays is a snowbird or a friend of a regular. Many are renters. We welcome them all (being able to play the game helps), regardless of their Villages' status. I think that's true of most activities. So, don't worry about being a renter. Most of us will love having you join us, regardless of the game or event.

Polo season is starting soon, so that should be on your list for your daughter (as you know). Not sure what will be going on in April, but I'm sure someone will have some knowledge.

So, relax, come on down and have fun! (As to the few curmudgeons who will object to you attending an event and taking "their" place, just ignore 'em -- they're few and far between and don't reflect the attitude of most of us.)

You can buy tickets to the Polo games in advance, or just drive up and purchase at the gate. Don't worry about not having a "group" to tailgate with you; the four of you will have fun -- just pack some good food and drinks, bring chairs or a blanket, or sit in your cart. Also, the stadium has a restaurant and full bar.

Here is a link to the box office and it has the dates of the games: :crap2:

Hi SSmith,
Sounds like you are going to have another great visit. When you rent a home from Villages homeowners, you are using their resident passes. You are considered a resident during your stay and have all the resident privileges. Don't be shy about using them! You are entitled.

This makes perfect sense because the homeowners who rent to you are not entitled to use their resident passes while you are here.

DDoug: The Villages gets the $50 fee. While there is no doubt a profit involved, this also makes sense to me too, as TV does incur administrative expenses. TV checks the identity of the renters and keeps track of how long they are entitled to use their "rented" passes. That seems necessary to prevent cheating, double-dipping or any unauthorized uses.

The $50 ID fee is paid to The Villages. It is what they charge to handle the transfer of the ID's from the home owner to the renter. It is optional for renters, but they need it to use the executive courses, the pools, and Katie Belles.

It's none of my business, but, if you're only going to be here for a week, is the $50 resident pass transfer really necessary??? Your landlords/homeowners could get you guest passes for the week that entitles you to use the pools, rec centers, etc. If you are golfers, then the guest fees could add up to $50 quickly. If you are not golfers, you might not accumulate more than $50 in guest premiums (extra for movie tix, polo, shows, etc).

Regardless, enjoy your stay!!!

Thanks Redwitch as usual a nice and kind response from you...I always value your insights.

K-9 thanks for the link about polo.

D Doug and F-16 we get the pass since my hubby will be playing as much golf as he can so price evens out but also if a line dancing class is full I can still get in before those with guest passes.

Does anyone know about the pickleball issue.

Also a heads up...Tartan Day will be Wednesday that week.

First, you're very welcome and thank you for the kind words. I assume when you're asking about pickleball, you're not talking league play. If you are, I think you're out of luck for that. However, for regular play, I believe you just kind of stand around and wait for your turn when it is open court. I'll check with some friends tonight to see what they know and let you know.

Also thanks to you PTurner for your insight and yes we hope to have a great stay.

Thanks again to you Miss Red. We will check into that pickleball thing.

Asked some friends tonight who are pretty serious pickleballers. They said just find out the league schedule and hit the courts during non-league time. You may have to wait around if it's crowded but you shouldn't have a problem playing with groups. Just try to be honest about your level of play. Hope this helps.

So, hurry on down and have a blast!

BTW -- Just let people know when you're down here and suggest a meeting place/time. If we're free, we will come.
