Can you put out furniture to be picked up on recycling day.

I'm not sure about the recycling folks picking it up but I'd suspect someone driving by will snag it first!
If the furniture is still serviceable, perhaps consider donating it. Some charitable organizations will come to your home for pick up.

If it's large and you live in Sumter County, call North Sumter Utility company, (352) 753-6270 and tell them you have something large to be picked up. They'll make arrangements for it to be taken.

For bulk pick-up call the trash collection office and they are pretty impressive about pick-ups. The first time I called they asked me if I could have my furniture outside in an hour and sure enough they took it right away! The other times I've called they were almost equally on the ball!

If it's serviceable but maybe not quite good enough for donating, you might want to offer it on freecycle.org -- there's one for The Villages and one for Lady Lake. This is a Yahoo group that offers/asks for items. It usually gets to people who truly need it.

I've called the Sumter people when I had a lot of furniture (unsuitable for donation) to be discarded. I've also put out an occasional piece on garbage day and they've taken it.
