TIVO use

Has anyone had any experience with using a TIVO dvr system for their television. When I lived in N.Y. I used the dvr to receive about 18 channels. The cost for cable is getting higher with every bill

Are you saying TiVo with no cable or sat. provider? I didn't know that was possible.

We've used TIVO for several years along with Comcast "full basic" service. We don't have the box or get HD. I think the box is now free with the subscription.

Are you asking whether TIVO would work with just an antenna and local channels? I don't know the answer to that question. TIVO calls somebody on the phone in the middle of the night to get the TV lineup for the next 10 days or two weeks. Is that how a DVR works also?

I love TIVO. A friend of ours upgraded his and gave us the old one with a lifetime subscription. Its storage capability is enough for our needs.

I too am confused about what you are asking. We love our TiVo, but it doesn't provide any channels. It just records channels we already get, whether they are cable or traditional network channels. Is that what you are asking?
