I just wanted to share with my TOTV friends that if you have not already created a neighborhood watch for medical reasons, then please do so now.

My next door neighbor had a stroke, possibly on Thursday but was not found until this morning. He had not shown up to eat dinner yesterday evening with another neighbor. His dog had barked all night, though we live right next to him and our dog did not let on that he was barking nor did we hear him. The neighbors behind him had heard the dog. One of our neighbors found out this morning that no one had seen him and went in and found him. She used his cell phone to call family.

Lesson learned:

1. Share a key with a neighbor or code to garage door opener.
2. If someone doesn't show up for an appointment, try to make sure they are okay.
3. Someone (or at least two) in the neighborhood needs a list of relatives they need to contact with phone numbers should something happen.
4. If you have a cell phone make sure you input the ICE (in case of emergency) listing in contacts.

Currently he is in the emergency room and someone is letting his dog out periodically. Would appreciate prayers for him. His name is Mel.

Our next door neighbor in TV mentioned something about her calling in to the sheriff's department daily, just to let them know she was o.k. - sounded kind of like a "reverse well-person check", I guess. (She'd recently undergone heart surgery.) I didn't give it much more thought until I read this thread and decided to check into it.

Here's what she was talking about:

She mentioned she did this as well:

These sound like great ideas to me!! :)

I know these are only for Sumter County - perhaps Marion and Lake have something similar as well.

Excellent idea, Teachnmo. Thanks for the suggestion. Your neighbor is in my prayers.

How sad. Our prayers are with Mel. This is something we can all learn from in not only treating people how you want to be treated but watch out for our neighbors like we would want them to watch out for us.
Get better Mel.

Good idea, we'll keep Mel in our prayers.
