The Republican budget plan drafted by Rep. Paul Ryan would cut more than $4 Trillion Dollars over the next decade. More than the President's debt commission proposed, with spending caps and changes in the Medicare and Medicaid programs, Ryan said.

This is for the budget year starting Oct. 1st and has nothing to do with stopping a partial government shutdown this Friday, Apr. 8th.

Rep. Ryan wants to bring spending back to 2008 levels cutting $400 Billion Dollars over 10 years.

He's proposing a "premium support system" to revamp Medicare. Future seniors would choose a health plan and the government would subsidize those plans. This would shift more costs to Medicare recipients. Those currently 55 and older would stay under the existing Medicare plan.

Rep. Ryan did not stipulate how his plan would affect Social Security. I would have preferred he was upfront about this aspect of the plan and hope we get more details soon. But at least this seems like positive steps in the right direction.
