Men, did you have a talent and humor when you got married? Did your wife marry you because she admired these talents?
Do you still have these talents/humor?
I understand most married men get smart and find out that the talent/humor they had some how has been transfered to the wife and you no longer know how to be funny nor have any talent...
Just wondering...
Food for thought ladies as I've heard this way too much from those who should just lay back and have fun.

Hmmm. Sweetie doesn't post on here, but he reads it, so I am gonna talk about him knowing he won't mind.
Sweetie has a great sense of humor, in that he always gets it, has an easy laugh and listens attentively to others as they do their "stand up routines". Sweetie is not a lamp shade wearer or someone who really takes center stage in a social setting. If we were a famous couple, I think we would be George and Gracie.
I married him because of his quick smile and easy laugh, but never wanted a comedian for my very own. There is a lot of laughter in our marriage. His talents are unlimited. He can fix a crying grandchild and a leaky wash machine with equal ease. I am so lucky.

Thanks Gracie, so very glad you guys have a great marrage.
Not trying to say most people don't just saying I hear too much of things getting picky by either one and that all should just relax and love and have fun while you can.
By the way seems your the only one that can answer that question - kinda funny???

The bride and I have been married for 46 years and from day one we have always had fun mostly with two liners at each other. We have laughed at ourselves mostly. Some of ones we both like are:
Someone will say married for 46 years! Answer: well, we go out for dinner twice a week, she goes on Tuesday I go on Thursday.
Or I gave my wife a MasterCard, she lost the darn card. I did not say anything because the lady that found it spends less than she does.
Nice one we did in the Villages: The waitress points to the two specials on the board: Wife says I will have the Chicken Wrap. Waitress looks at me with ??? I say to the wife, what can I have? Waitress looks at me with a puzzled look. I say to the waitress she doesn't let me order: Guess what happened when we got the check? we were only charged for one meal, my meal was compliments of the house. The manager came out and simply wanted to meet us. It is not what you say it is the way you do it.
We do alot of fishing, one afernoon, the wife was standing up in the boat, reeling in the fish, the rod was bent over real good. She was also well bent over with her behind staring at me: She says with a strong voice: I 've got a big one! I took a photo of her back end and printed a photo. Til today we both look at the photo and laugh.
We focus on laughing at ourselves. Noone gets angry or insulted and it makes for a great frame work for great conversation as others will start telling stories about themselves that are funny.
It is rewarding to meet someone you know and the first thing you are greeted with is a big laugh! Pain and suffering is easier to deal with as you can be serious as well.

Having lost my wife of some 41 years almost 11 years ago, it's beginning to be harder to remember how we managed so long! But, we laughed a lot, both at and about each other. Our hard times were usually overcome with thoughts and remembrances of our good times.
I've always liked this: On the morning of their 60th anniversary, my sister-in-law looked at her husband (my brother) and told him, "I hope you realize that you're still on trial!" :ho:
They're working on #64; I think he's still under probation!

Maybe . . . in the cases you have noticed, the wife admires those talents and traits in her husband, and tries to imitate. Then, when her imitation fails, and the husband is rewarded by laughter and praise from others, she is irritated. She would be better adhering to the phrase "Always Be Yourself" as I'm sure that the wife has many talents of her own, but may be too insecure to see them in herself. Perhaps the husband should work on helping the wife overcome some insecurities.
Just maybe . . .

I posed the question to Sandy so I could report correctly here. I asked her, "Why did you marry me?" Without hesitation, she replied, "Because I love you." Simple and straightforward.
Coming up on 36 years of marriage and we're still plugging along, happy as two peas in a pod.

As the one who started this post I will now say that I love my wife and we are very happy.
Now, isn't this great to hear of all the happy people in TV? Do you think TV even makes people happier than before they were here (and maybe even closer)?

Yes I do. Our firstborn arrived nine months and eleven days after a large wedding and a papal blessing. Sweetie said it would have been sooner but he had a knot in his shoe laces.
Anyway....we never really had extended periods of alone down time together very often, what with the business of life and work and raising children and solving problems...and doing pretty much what everyone does to get by.
Now the three of us adults are having terrific down time together. I think that this is the happiest part of my life so far. It is better because all around us people are doing the same thing. And they are of a certain age (grown up)....I just love it here. Especially with my cabin mates.

Yes I do. Our firstborn arrived nine months and eleven days after a large wedding and a papal blessing. That's almost a conincidence. Our first (and last) born arrived nine years two hours and fifty minutes after a large wedding and a papal blessing. It would have been sooner for us too except it took me eight years, three months, two hours and fifty minutes to learn to, as a married man, tie my shoes! (whatever that means) :1rotfl:

Well, I guess we're just kids.....52 and 53. Jane's older and as I remind her she is always gonna be. We've been married 32 years. She says I make her laugh many times a day.
We've found the secret of a happy marriage is this. We go out for dinner twice a week. Romantic, candlelight, dancing, etc.......she goes on Mondays and I go on Thursdays.......:1rotfl:
Seriously, marriage is work at times, that is what makes it valuable...like a thanksgiving dinner is more satisfying then a PBJ....it takes more work.
She married me for my good looks...(now gone), but more importantly she says for my integrity, my faith and values, and my work ethic. We were best friends before we were married and still are.
As a professional firefighter, I know no one is guaranteed tomorrow. I have taught her how to do electrical work, change a flat tire, sweat copper plumbing and fix a roof. She has taught me how to cook and use the dishwasher. I know how to use both dishwashers....the one I married and the one under the counter. The first one was harder to figure out.
Years ago our Pastor asked us to counsel folks in church who were getting married. Teach them the ropes so to speak on communication, expectations, dealing with in-laws, money management, sex, etc, etc. We enjoyed it and years later we see those couples are all still together. Surprising in this day and age.
I delivered our own three boys, thinking any guy could start a job, a real man finishes it. We designed and built our house ourselves together. We are now excited about this next big move in our lives, selling everything in NY and moving down here this year. Currently we are both on cloud nine because we are down here for the next month.

My observation that in The Villages there are many kinds of marriages.
There are much married, never married, once married, happily married, unhappily married and living together.
They all seem like pretty nice folks to me.
