Ann Church, senior director of government relations for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says about racing greyhounds:

"Dogs are confined, often with their muzzles on, for 20 hours a day because there are not enough people to care for them," she said. "The irony that a dog that so much likes to run is kept in a cage 20 hours a day is heartbreaking."

The good news is that the greyhound racing industry is decreasing.

They make great rescue dogs. Several friends up north - with plenty of land - have adopted greyhounds.

In line with this thread I saw a report on Television a day or two ago about prisoner partnering to help train dogs and make them more adaptable. Even Greyhounds are mentioned. Rather than say anymore I'll just let you read the artice I found in a local newspaper!
