Moffitt/Par Car mileage results?

Recently, Par Car conducted a "contest" in order to support the Moffitt Center construction. By guessing the number of miles a Par Car can travel on a single charge, donations were generated. Does anyone have the results of the contest? It has been a few weeks since the ride took place.

I heard on the radio that it was over 80 miles. Something like 85 miles. They are now running an advertisement on WVLG.

Did they drive a certain way (like real slow)?

That total seems incredible.

I knew it would have to go 60 miles or an entire marketing campaign would need to be redesigned :). It would be great to see the technical details of the test.


Did they put in batteries with a higher AH rating?
Did the drive 20 MPH?
Stop and Go?
Did the cart get to rest? Batteries will recoup to some degree.
Did they keep voltage during the test, when was pack at 70%, how about 50%?
What was the ending voltage of the pack, I guess dead for the contest to have a winner or about 20%?


A couple of years ago I remember reading on some golf cart forum about a test with Club Car and Par Car where the CC went more 90 miles and Par Car went 120, Darned if I can find it. Until I do, take the numbers with a grain of salt.

I'm not surprised one bit at the total. I purchased a Par Car four years ago because they advertise 60 miles, and I wanted something very reliable. My Par Car seems to go forever on a charge. Even after golfing and cruising around, the needle always seems to be on green, fully charged!

I wonder how many people will get 80 miles on a battery charge, like I said its very deceiving and their advertising is the same way. :(

I think most people understand that it is a 'best' world contest. But I trust Barefoot (and others I know) and she has always said that she gets all the miles she needs.

I think you are the great Swami when it comes to golf car details. Are you this way with cars,TV's etc? You should consider training us newbies on how to buy a cart, maybe you could pick up a few dollars.:BigApplause:

I agree, but I do not have a problem with the results. After all it was a contest for a cause. They were showing off the fact they have 8-6 volt batteries by design, other manufactures can do that. The only issue that could come from this is that people who do not understand battery care start driving their cart too many miles per charge and wondering why the batteries last 18 - 24 months.

Is Karguy still out here? He may know how test was done. I promise you they had proper tire pressure, front end alignment and zero brake drag. However they did the test we can learn from HOW the cart was driven. The pack takes the biggest load when starting from a stop, doing this more gradually is smart driving for all of us sparkys.

I am no swami, I am a DIY electric golf cart fixer who learns more each day by participating (sometimes being wrong) on forums like this. I will share any information I have because I enjoy it, but you will get what you pay for, so caveat reader.

Do you think it is possible that the ParCar they used may have had the new gel maintenance free batteries installed????? They cost over twice as much as the normal cart battery.

I would absolutely think so. This is there current push (I just received an ad from them). They indicate the cost of these batteries is around 2K! I imagine they would last for more years as well - they should at that price!

Not sure how we find out the details, but I would love to learn more. I do believe they could go 80 miles depending on HOW they drove with normal wet batteries. Heck I believe I could go 80 miles in my Club Car that has 8-6volt batteries given the right circumstances. If I go at a slower speed, if the pack could get a rest occasionally, etc.

I took my cart 50 miles last winter which discharged the pack to 50%. That was driving like a Villager at full speed. If I had done that test at a slower speed, if I had allowed the pack to discharge to dead...... who knows.

Since I am intrigued, I will probably give a call to Par Car Monday. IMO it is fun to know...

Just for information and nothing more let me state the following.
1. We used regular batteries in our cart and not the maintenance free ones.
Ours are not gel. They are Glass Matt. We had water filled batteries for the
test.
2. We drove at a speed of 19.5 miles per hour to make it legal.
3. We had a police escort the entire way so no one would get hurt by ???
4. We stopped every 10 to 12 miles to let other cancer survivors drive the
cart and check the batteries.
5. We went a distance of 80.6 miles on the cart before it ran out of energy
and had to push it into the Moffitt Center Office that night.
6. The lady, Joan Miller, of Belvedere, was the winner of the cart at her
guestimate of 80.5 miles.
7. We raised over $15,000 for the Moffitt Cancer Center on the pledges
that were taken on vendor nights in the squares.
8. We have over $15,000 worth of business donations to still give away
to all the 2nd place winners(over 100).
9. The last time we did this was in 2002 in the Utah flats under perfect
conditions and did an astounding 112 miles. Club car did not show up.
10. We under no conditions tell you to drive a cart for 80 miles. All we
state is that you can if pushed to that extent. You are ruining your
batteries when you do what we did. Remember your battery is like
a giant fuel tank...you can only go so many miles, or hours, or amps
till you need new ones. Just like you can only go so many miles on
a gas cart till you need more gas.
11. The cart was never modified in any way prior or during or after our
Miles for Moffitt endurance test.
12. Tire pressure was set at 35.
13. We have S.E.C.O. checking on how much energy the cart used and how
much it will cost to fully charge the fully discharged batteries.
14. The batteries were not new, they were charge about 10 times to us
using the batteries in the cart. Joan will recieve new Maintenance
Free battereies in her cart upon delivery.

I have not said anything on this site because of a few factors.
I have not advertised here for almost a year and because of restraints from other factors I could not do it for this great cause.
In the near future you will be seeing Columbia Parcar as a regular advertiser
on this site. Not because of being forced to do it, but because it is one of
the few sites in the villages that is worth supporting.

I hope I have answered most, if not all, of your questions.
I will not use this forum to keep answering questions because that ils just
not right.

Thanks for the real facts. For a while I thought maybe the mileage was calculated by the same clowns at the EPA who publish the milage claims on new car stickers -----calculated at 10 miles an hour with the engine off down hill with a 40 mile-an-hour tail wind.
Anyway hats off to ParCar and the money it raised and all the buzz it created. You have a great advertising guy working for you!

I am extremely impressed by the results of this test, kudos to Par Car. I know Kar Guy said he will not respond with any more answers, but I ask just in case he reconsiders....... if not I fully understand.

I am really interested (and maybe others?) in the items below if you are willing to share.

I am happy with mine just that the seat on my rear will never make it the 80 miles i've done about 40 but my rear was killing me need better or more comfortable seat

2014 Par Car uses 8- 6volt batteries instead of 6- 8 volt. They cost $850.00. That's why you get better mileage and the cost is about the same as other carts batteries.
