or electric goes for or is it smarter to buy a new one.

I'd suggest that, since you seem to be completely open to anything - new or used - you pick a price-point you feel comfortable with and go from there. Fairly well loaded up new carts can run up to $10k including sales tax - even more if you go with one with a custom body, Curtis Cab enclosure, Ultimate seat, etc., etc. But nice used ones can be had for $3-5k - some will be less, some will be more. Pick your preference of electric versus gas - there are a bunch of threads on TOTV regarding opinions/pros-and-cons that you can do a Search for. Used pricing can depend on age, condition, and how much work it might (or might not) need. Condition/age/care of the battery system on electric carts is important.

Another option to consider might be a "remanufactured" cart. A number of cart dealers/businesses sell those. They'll take a used cart and completely go through it, top to bottom - rebuild/replace any wear items, new tires, new Sunbrella, new paint and/or new body, and so on......pretty much everything except rebuilding the motor (on a gas cart). They'll generally run about $1.5k (give or take) less than a new cart would be.

If warranty is a consideration, new carts will come with longer warranties than the reman carts. Most used carts will have no warranty.

I might not be spot-on with the dollar amounts noted. But it will at least give you an idea of where things will fall.

My friend just bought a remanufactured 2000 Par Car (totally redone) from ParCar for $3500.

In my case I'm sorry I bought a new one. When I moved down I went to Club Cart World and bought a perfectly fine new 4 seater electric leftover model for $7800. I thought it a good deal and it's a good cart.

Then we got so busy that we decided to get another so we'd each have one. I found a nice used Club Cart for $2200. I replaced the batteries for $600 and had a perfectly good cart for $2800.

In retrospect I could have saved $5000 if I bought 2 used carts. I hate hindsight.

Oh my gosh, there are many things to consider here! As to the cost of a used cart, gas or electric, it all depends on the age of the cart, and a few other factors. How many hours does it have on it? What kind of options does it have? Is it in great condition or is it nicked and dinged and have rips in the enclosure. Does it even have an enclosure? As to whether or not it is smarter to buy a new cart, the main thing to consider there would be the warranty that you WOULD get with a new cart. My gas golf cart is a '99 remanufactured Club Car with 1420 hours on it. We got it in '01 and it had a 3-yr. warranty on it. My husband has done almost all of the maintenance on it and it is still in excellent condition. We just recently put its first set of new replacement tires on it! I'm not sure what we could sell it for but I'm thinking around the high $2000. We'll have to fork over around $10000 to get a new cart that has the options we want the next time around. So, as you can see there is a huge difference in what you will pay for a good used cart vs. a new, nicely loaded one. I would say it comes down to whatever your wallet will bear and what kind of warranty you want. Also, you didn't ask this question but consider how far you may want to go in any cart you buy. This place is getting bigger by the day. Owning a gas cart will relieve you of the headaches and expense of buying new batteries every few years, and you won't have to worry about how far you can go. We have owned both kinds of carts and we could never go back to electric. It's all a personal choice for whatever your lifestyle is here. We love to ride all over the place in our cart and we just don't want to wonder if we'll make it back home on a charge. (Yes, I know that some of the newer cart manufacturers are boasting 70-80 miles on a charge...that may be all well and good when the batteries are new, but sooner or later the batteries go and so will the desire to venture far from home.)

I agree 100%. It is amazing the quality electric Club Car you can get for $2500. Solid cart with an abundance of parts from anywhere. Just got a 2002 CC (reman in 2008) for our second cart for $2050. Great shape, great Sunbrella, batteries three years old, but still gets 26+ miles.

PS. I just know used Club Cars, so I reference them, but my post is not meant to demean any other brand where great deals are found.

Right now you can buy used Electric golf carts for a very reasonable price .(approx $2500-$3500)
Folks here are under the supposition that they have to switch to gas to get to the new courses on the south end of THE VILLAGES.......This is not necessarily so , I have two electric CLUB CARS and have no problem... I live on the extreme north end and yesterday I played nine holes on Truman course on 466A...this course is very hilly with lots of ups and downs (like my golf game) followed by a jaunt through lake Sumter landing then on to the north end (Chatham)...It had to be close to thirty miles and I still had lots of juice when I rolled in .....My cart is a 2000 model and the Trojan batteries are two years old.....I fill the batteries the first of every month and charge them every time I take them out no matter how far or short the drive...They last me about four years with good power....
