I heard it and read he was killed a week ago. Officials were waiting on DNA confirmation before releasing the info. I'm surprised he's lasted this long. Healthwise and otherwise. Waiting on the President.

There is bound to be retaliation.
It is almost like hearing Hitler was dead. I was just a little girl but I remember hearing it with relief.

It's a great day for our country!
God Bless America and the armed forces that serves our great country.
I am just hoping that his death leads to the end of our concerns with this faction, but I fear that someone else will just step into his shoes and on and on. Let's all hope for the best.

As we all welcome the news of the death of Osama Bin Laden and Americans congratulate our Country and especially our Military, I thought it would be a good time to consider all of us giving back a bit to those that made this event possible.
Special Operations Units of the Military (Delta, Seals, Green Beret, Air Force and Marine Special Forces) have made this day possible. Although many times they are forced to operate in the shadows and avoid taking credit for their actions.
I ask that you take a look at the following link: www.specialops.org to learn of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation. This foundation has received a 4 star rating from Charity Navigator for the last 5 years (Only 5% of charities qualify for this distinction).
The Special Operations Warrior Foundation provides full scholorship grants and educational and family counseling to the surviving children of Special Operations personnel who die in operational or training missions and immediate financial assistance to severely wounded Special Operations personnel and their families.
I ask that you consider making a donation to this worthwhile charity as a small way for us to show our gratitude. Thanks.

it took 10 years to catch a 7 foot guy on dialysis!....Yipsters! I know I'll get blasted for this one BUT is anyone else surprised that the Navy Seals accomplished this operation....I associate the Navy with WATER!....You would think the Green Beret, CIA, FBI, Marines etc.....Glad they were able to complete this mission thou! After reading TOTV posts, I now understand that SEALS, are the best of the best and applaud them...

I'm going to log on to their site a bit later this morning. Yes a big thanks to our special forces and our military. Unfortunately I will be flying in two days and I'm sure the boarding will be on special alert. Glad they got the SOB.

I'm thrilled he is gone but his death frightens me. To me, he was as evil as Hitler and his crew. However, when Hitler died, that was it. Their power base was more or less destroyed as well. That is not the case with the Taliban. They still have leaders, money, a following and a focus that the Nazis of yesterday and today do not have. I hope and pray there is no retaliation but I doubt that will be the case.
So, for now, I'll rejoice in the removal of something as evil as Osama Bin Laden and pray that this will end a tragic chapter in the history of the U.S. Americans deserve to celebrate this but, sadly, still be vigilant.

There are a lot of details about his life in this article that I was not aware of. He was raised in a world of privilege and he adopted a philosophy far different than ours. Awful, scary, sad, and disastrous to the world what one man can do.

While this is a good thing to happen, I too think we need to not be to joyeous about this. As others have said here there are others who will gladly step into his shoes. Remember along with the announcement it was stated that reprocussions will perhaps follow. I think I heard that the alert has risen for terror attacks. We should pray for our service-men and women BUT also for our country!
My question to your folks who've already served..."if the evil-doers will want to revenge his death, why did we make the announcement that we killed him?" Just curious!
I had long thought that he was dead (either by special forces OR because of his health issues) and that we kept him "alive" just because the thoughts of retaliation.

I guess being fearful following something like this is something we all think about. But remember, this sends a message of those who follow in his footsteps that we can and will get you too!
We must and will stay vigilant in the aftermath of this great victory for our country and the souls of the 9/11 victims. I salute our military and the Navy Seals who pulled this mission off without loss of American life.

They killed him so that they did not have to go through the years of agony-for us and the free world that imprisionment would bring about . If he was still alive , no american would be safe from the hostage taking efforts of AQ . They would use hostages as ransom. The bleeding hearts would bemoan the conditions of his imprisionment and he would serve them as a living martyr.

Today remembering the many families that have lost loved ones from 9/11 to today due to what this man set in motion.
It will be interesting to see the spin that put on this by radical Muslims.

This morning Americans learned that justice has finally been delivered to the master mind of 9-11 Osama Bin Laden. How fitting that he was finally brought to justice at the hands of the elite Navy Seals in a very well planned and executed special operations mission last night that resulted in him being killed in a fire fight. His location was determined based on intelligence gathered by our Intelligence Agencies, found the compound well inside Pakistan. After 6 months of careful planning and confirming of intelligence and Osama’s location, the order was given yesterday to capture Osama.
President Obama delivered the news late last night from the White House. For the first time in almost ten years since the 9-11 attacks Americans have a real reason to celebrate and take pride in America and her power. The message is very clear: Mess with Americans and we will get you no matter how long it takes no matter the cost! That was made clear last night and this morning it is a good feeling to be an American.
Seems to me everyone should be flying their flages, just as if it were a national holiday. I just walked around and didn't see many, other than mine and a few standing flag poles. Get you flags flying. Today should be celebrated!

Alive some lawyer would have got him off on a technicality or other BS. You got to protect his rights don't ya know. If I had my way I'd have buried him with a dozen pigs.

Osama was expecting 72 virgins, instead he got 24 VIRGINIANS (The Seal Team that executed the mission is based in Virginia).

My flag flies, as it has since we arrived in The Villages. Not enough?, you are right, The Villages should be saturated, just because of the demographics, and I don't mean veterans specifically, there are a large amount of people that have had good profitable lives enjoying the good life of the villages. What a better way to show that they are proud to be Americans. Flag Day is a little over a month away, June 14 to be exact. I know of two sources of flag poles and everything needed to erect a 20 ft flag pole and it is not that tough, I know one of them even installs. There is a flag store south of 466a on 441 and a vendor in the Markets of Marion (first row to the left). If all of that seems a bit daunting then there are multiple sources (even Walmart)where you can find a kit including a bracket that you can attach to the outside of your house, allowing you to take the flasg down each evening, so you do not have to install a light on the flag pole. Spread the word TOTVrs, it is the right thing to do.
Sorry for getting off on a tangent of this thread, but I have, as a retired military member and civil servant, I have access to many UNCLASSIFIED sources of information on the Usama Bin Laden event and that has been my focus since arising yesterday morning. Why, you say. I have a grandson that was notified of his selection for a deployment to the combat area some months ago. He is in the AF but now attached to the Army, specifically the Special Opertions command, the element the Navy Seals are part of. Some one above mentioned thinking of water when you mention Navy Seals. I understand that layman's view, but not so, they are an integral part of the US Special Operations Command, made up of Army, Navy and Air Force specially trained units. Back to my grandson, he has trained at numerous locations since and only fairly recently arrived in theatre. He is not able to go into any detail, including where, what, etc. I spent 10-15 years as a "war planner", so I have a good feeling for how operations plans are developed - I did it - and I can only assume he is in a support role. I spent many months and long days in an Operations Center following 9-11, so both make the UBL event sort of personal, maybe that explains my flag comments above.....
God bless America !!

GOOD RIDDANCE TO BOTH THOSE S.O.B.'S.
2. It's a great day for America, to be an American and GOD BLESS America!!!!!
3. I hope this gives some measure of relief to those who lost loved ones in 9/11.
