Well, it has been quiet a day today. Super Realtor Jackie Murphy called and said Sanibel was open for business. She has found that perfect lot for us, #75 Baker Ln., and we pounced on it. Not long after our Realtor from our home town called and we have an offer on our home here after only 5 days on the market!! Wow! If all of this goes through, and the plan comes together, it will be the culmination of 2 years of planning to become a Frog. Anyway, The GaDawg and his Peach will be there with bells on asap. Y'all come visit, heah! Ernie and Joan

Have you two decided what model to build and discussed all the interior stuff yet? Remember, the most important thing is to get a golf cart right away.

Thanks Tbugs, as a matter of fact we have recently decided on a plan for the house. An extended Iris is the plan. As for a golf cart, looks like it may be one elect. and one gas. Yamaha would be nice.

Oh boy, I sure don't want to be a trouble maker but I would feel bad if I knew something and did not share it ...so people could check it out but....did I read once that there is a smell around Sanibel ...from a dump?!?!?....sure hope not. Please Residents can you help with this one....so either that rumor is dismissed or confirmed. I would want someone to check it out for me if this is the case.
Every time we are there I think of the poor people who bought on the golf course near the sewage treatment plant near Bonita....so could someone please confirm or deny this rumor for the person who started this thread- GaDawg! That way he could move his home site if needed

Don't think there is a dump in Sanibel. There is a treatment plant in Largo...

I do not know of a dump site or any type of solid waste facility anywhere near The Village of Sanibel. Having been down several times in the past two years all I can smell is the sweet smell of Florida! Combine that with all of the wonderful people we have met while visiting there makes it just as everyone says.... It's a beautiful day in The Villages.

and found that there is indeed a landfill site just east of Morse and just south of 466A. Seems it is operated by Hewitt Contracting Company and is for construction and demolition materials ONLY, there is NO garbage or class lll materials allowed at the site. Hope that one clears the air about the landfill. http://www.hewittcontracting.com/landfills.html

My first post...hope I'm doing this right. We visited TV for the first time in January, loved it. Luckily, we sold our house in April and close in a couple days. We really feel blessed because there are so many houses on the market right now. Anyhow, we decided today to reserve a lot in Sanibel and start construction in July. We are so looking forward to joining the TV family. GADawg, glad you did some sniffing around about the "dump" rumor.

Thanks Bill we will be hanging in there. Have had 4 showings in the past week or so and are confident that the house will ultimately sell, just how long it takes is the question. That seems to be the way it is working out for so many folks these days. I read a lot of your posts and they are always filled with good advice. Hope we can meet one day in TV. Can't stay away too long, My GAPeach and I are planning a trip down to TV in early June the check out the lot! Hey, the plan is still on and coming together nicely! PZjay: I may have spoken too soon. We definitely plan to become Villagers, but not sure if the lot in Sanibel is going to work out. Looks like you have picked a nice lot, though.
GaDawg: Sorry to hear about your house, but, if you are getting showings that sounds positive. We had very few showings between February and March. In early April, we reevaluated the competition along with our asking price, and got a contract within a week. So, for us I think pricing was the key. We still have two days before it's a done deal, though. I hope it all works out for you soon.

billmar: We did a lot of research with our realtor on pricing and by the number of showings we are getting so far we seem to be in a good place. Two more showings today! Keeping our fingers crossed that one of them will make us homeless. Good luck on your search for a lot in TV. There are so many great villages to select from and any of them will be a wonderful place to call home.

GaDawg: in addition to all that body-part crossing, here's another idea.
Why not tell your realtor to tell propsective buyers that you need to sell your home bc you are moving down to Gainesville area to do recon/spying on them Gators!
No true UGA fan would pass up the opportunity to help another dawg do something to help bring down the Gators!
Don't get me wrong, here. UF rules!
However, I root for all fellow potential Villagers to have their dream move come through, regardless of their (misguided) SEC affiliation. :)
Continued Best of Luck wishes to you and all others in a similar situation!

(don't know what happened there, thought I raised her different) So for the past several years I have had to catch it from him big time. UF has had a good program and has surely given UGA fits over the last several years. We'll see it it continues this year with all the changes that have been made down there. We love SEC football!!

Would you know it, the only hitch in our sale was the buyer asked for a later closing date, which really helped us a lot. We close in Georgia July 25, have a rental ready in Duval for the month of August, then it is on to our Sanibel home. 4 weeks into the build Monday and it is looking like a house. All closed in with sheetrock up this past week! Our moving truck is to be packed by Sunday afternoon and after the closing here on Monday we will be on our way to TV for good! Happily Homeless for a month! Then we will celebrate the two years of waiting and watch the plan finally come together. Closing August 26! What a time. We were in TV last week and Sanibel is growing houses! Got to meet Larry and Sheila our across the street neighbors. Nice couple. It is such fun to watch a neighborhood come to life! See you in TV next week. Oh, and by the way, anyone have a recommendation of someone who can help unload a truck?

The sewer plant on Bonita had a new "Carbon Scrubber" installed in the first few weeks of Aug. 2011. I have not smelled the bad stuff since.

WE ran into this sweet couple at Bob Evans this week and I was trying to think when Sanibel started. Can you believe that over 2000 homes have been built south of 466A since this date or thereabouts?

I can believe it as this thread started on May 2, 2011, (almost two years ago).
TV building process is a well oiled machine.
