View Full Version : Newt Gingrich character

Gingrich has always preached about the Republicans and conservatives as standing for "family values". Newt, himself, does not practice what he preaches as can be seen from his marriages and affairs while married.

His first wife, Jackie, said that Gingrich walked out on her in the spring of 1980. That fall, while she was in the hospital recovering from surgery for uterine cancer, he appeared at her bedside with a yellow legal pad outlining the details for their divorce. Sounds like a real decent man with family values, doesn't it?

Gingrich was also quoted as saying about his divorce from Jackie, "She's not young enough or pretty enough to be the wife of a President. And besides, she has cancer."

Regarding the divorce of his second wife, she reported that Newt ditched her eight months after finding out she had multiple sclerosis. Marianne Gingrich, 48 ... says the ex-speaker of the House told her on Mother's Day 1999 that he wanted a divorce, after learning she had a neurological condition that could lead to MS [multiple sclerosis]."

Currently married to Callista Bisek, Newt Gingrich has been married three times. His two previous marriages ended in divorce after he had affairs with younger women and when his wives were seriously ill.

I will normally give anyone the benefit of the doubt, but with Mr. Gingrich I am having a great deal of trouble finding any benefit to give him. I hope he has changed, but "hope" and "change don't work for me anymore. How about you??"

Why don't you wait to see who the actual nominee is and then bring out the dogs? Your shotgun approach to whoevers in the news this week is too obvious.

Bottom line is, no matter who it is on the GOP side you'll attack with impunity. All the while Obama gets a free pass on everything from the left.

Yawn...

Lassen,

I am just trying to show some of the character (and lack of character) of the Reactionary Right's favorites.

Obama IS the President now. Feel free to say whatever you want about him but he IS the President now. A majority of Americans voted for him in 2008. He is President until at least Jan. 20, 2013.

Oh, let's "hope" not! Right now, no one looks good to me. I will wait, investigate and develop an informed opinion. There's no need to be nasty about anyone. I do not repect Mr. Obama because he has behaved like a petulant teenager far too often and his ineptitude is embarrassing to the nation. I DO, however, respect the office of the Presidency. I just wish he did.

I see. So as long as they are already President, lack of character isn't an issue for you. It only applies to the new guys.

Ignoring lies in this post, I just have two simple words for you. BILL CLINTON.

Now give us all a break, OK?

"Hypocritical Democrat" is going to be permanently joined in the new Webster's Dictionary as they cannot be separated anymore.

As an Idenpendent I remember Newtie's comments on Bill Clinton. I also remember Jessie Jackson's comments, plus all the other "I'm better that you are" until it turned out that they where no better. None are worth a pinch of P*** and neither would any make a good president. I don't agree with the one we have now, but will vote for him again, if this is the bestthat the GOP can find. Its beset to keep the devil you know than take a chance on the devil that you don't know.

No lies in my posting at all. They were all documented and you can use any source you want to try and show they were lies - since you would not obviously believe the sources I have to show the truth.

Anyhow, regarding Bill Clinton. He was impeached. No getting around it. Bill Clinton had the scruples of an alleycat and that is being unkind to alleycats.

If the details given in the initial post concerning Newt's first two marriages are accurate than indeed he is not a person of character. However as another member lamented Democrats kept repeating that "character didn't matter" during the Clinton sex scandals. If what is being reported about New's treatment of his ex-wives is true it is a sad circumstance because of all of the candidates including the incumbent Newt Gingrich has more and better ideas than all of them put together. He in my opinion has the better quaifications for presidency. But "character" does matter to me and I suspect many other voters. Finally I too respect the position of the President so it is all the more reason for people's disappointment and frustration when cadidates such as Kennedy, Clinton and Obama's find ways to discredit the most powerful position in the world.

After what Rubicon said in his posting, I would hate for anyone to think that I am just blowing smoke with false allegations (that would make me an "alligator") so I am giving the link. It does all check out.http://marriage.about.com/od/politics/a/gingrichn.htm

I hate to admit I am not too tech savvy at times. My laptop just gave me the notice I have to plug it in to recharge. I put the plug in the wall outlet only to have the laptop close down anyhow. I had plugged in my paper shredder! Is it only liberals who do dumb things like that?

Bugs, Your repeating the unsubstantiated tale of a supposed statement said by Mr Gingrich about his first wife is a scurrilous rumor and nothing more. It has not be reported in any reputable media source and can only be found on far left progressive web sites that vilify any conservative American. I consider this a lie and rumor mongering of the worst kind.

Sorry you feel that way, Richie, but facts are facts. I put in my sources. If you want to disprove them, go right ahead and put in your sources. However, until you or some other person puts in the sources that will disprove my sources, it stands as FACT.

How did the golf go today? Did you get your fair share of entitlements?

When a man divorces a woman who has cancer it lowers him completely in my book...or cheats on a woman who has cancer.

It has been done by politicians on both sides of the aisle.

It is another area where being in the public eye doesn't help a person be a better person.

Wikipedia link.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Newt_Gingrich#Marriages

I was surprised when I read this in Wikipedia that he was born and raised in Germany and he recently converted to Catholicism. I wonder how he did that...twice divorced.

Open up the link I submitted. Within each story is a separate source given for it with publication and date. You are very tech savvy and can look up these sources. Instead of just howling "Lies", do a little bit of research and try to disprove what I have found. Until that time, take a deep breath, uncap an ice-cold Yeungling and enjoy being retired.

You submitted no link. Only references I could find to the lie about Gingrich you posted are progressive liberal hit piece sites where even they report "rumors say", "someone said", "it's been reported". All garbage, all lies.

Wow, Richie, it seems to be an anger management issue here. Just kidding. Have another ice-cold Yeungling, bro. I just did. My wife agrees there should be a breathalyzer attached to the Internet.

Why take the brunt of punishment for a slime like Newt? I admitted Bill Clinton had the morals of an alleycat. Admit the same for Newt.

I'm not mad, you're just reading my words in the wrong frame of mind. What I am doing is parrying, and evidently, quite effectively.

I never said Newt was a paragon of moral virtue, I just don't think you need to add in unfounded rumors, or lies if you will, in order to make that point.

I don't know why it's often assumed I write in anger, when I seldom do. How about thinking of me smiling as you read my posts. Maybe that will help.

I have a nice picture of myself with my beloved Rusty up top. Use that.

If you are only looking for the perfect, most faithful husband to lead this country don't vote for Gingrich and go with Romney. Or just maybe Newt's recent religious conversion has made him a better husband. In any case, JFK and Clinton proved that being a faithful spouse was not essential for being an effective President.

Maybe this time, we should look for the best qualified and not a media darling with false promises for President.

There are some good qualified folks out there who have experiences that would equip them to lead us out of the mess created by the current empty suit.

Some names come to mind that just might have the right stuff. Jindal, Powell, Daniels, Huntsman, Huckabee, Christie, Paul to name a few. Examine what they have already done and are still doing and let's not fall again for a media darling again with promises of hope and change.

We need an effective leader this time, not an American Idol.

Richie,

Ouch, did the shoe fit or what? I think anger management might be in order. I think the Administrators had to pull down the post you wrote the other day in which you called me an idiot. What appears to be the your problem? You put up all of this garbage (the shear numbers are amazing - must not have anything else to do) and yet have the bolas to call posts by others lies and fabrications. ... and you can't or won't back the up with factual data. Actually you have a really long list of flattering adjectives. You are giving the other Conservatives that come here a bad name. If I were they, I wouldn't want you representing me. It's not pretty. Peace brother.

There are no fact I could post on this tread that would refute a lie. I can say "Someone who knows him has told me that Xavier is mean to small farm animals". Now you provide the facts to show I'm lying.

OK, I just made that up, and I apologize, but do you understand me now. You really must try to stick to the tread at hand. Carrying a grudge against me because you couldn't best me in an earlier debate is unseemly.

Xavier

posting ad hominem attacks against people he considers leftists, and either quotes conservative websites, blogs, etc to support his biases, or he just throws out a ridiculous theory that he knows deep down is a crock without even an ounce of evidence. Example, he posted today that the liberal media is afraid of Sarah Palin. Now everyone knows that is total hogwash. The liberal media would love for Palin to declare her candidacy, and Obama would give anything to run against her in 2012. Afraid of her? I think not.

Richie,

You are very capable of finding obscure factoids on the computer. Even with your vast skill, it looks as though you are not able to find facts that would disprove what I posted about Newt.

Newt has too much old personal baggage to be a credible candidate. All of it will surface and he will fail. Just look at John Edwards and how he went downhill so fast after it was brought out how much of a slimeball he was.

First Xavier your latest logo is great. I keep running across different accounts concerning Newt and most are not flattering. It appears everyone agrees he is an intellect, agood idea man and very innovative they simply do not believe he is a nice guy and can't inspire others to follow. Newt was one candidate I was watching and while he will hold his candidacy in abeyanace I intend to look elsewhere

After what we went through with the defense of everything "Clinton", I don't think the leftists have a leg to stand on in their assailment of the past conduct, in terms of morals, of Newt Gingrich.

There is no one more brilliant on the presidential stage, right now, than Mr. Gingrich. He doesn't need a teleprompter to make intelligent knowledgeable statements, either.
I'm not in his corner yet, and not because I don't believe he would be an outstanding choice to lead this country back from the brink of Obama. We need some more time to assess his electability in light of the predictable leftist major media storm to come if he gains serious traction.

My personal opinion is that Gingrich would make a better advisor. Of course nobody is perfect, and Gingrich is certainly more 'on issues' than people like Palin, Trump or Bachmann. But he does have baggage to overcome. I'm very interested in seeing what his new Contract For America is going to be - at least I believe I read that he'll have a new one coming out. If so, I hope it's more like the 1994 Contract and nothing at all like that 30-page manifesto that the GOP came out with last year.

for a president? I'd prefer a president who is a skirt chaser a la Clinton, to a president who fabricated intelligence reports and lied to the country about the need for a war that resulted in thousands of deaths and maimings, all at a cost of about $100 billion to our treasury.

Putting aside your Democrat talking points spin on, I'm guessing, the action in Iraq, I think you're thinking of someone else and not Newt Gingrich.

I'm not sure what the antics of the "skirt chaser", and might I add accused rapist, Bill Clinton has to do with the war in Iraq and how that might relate to Newt Gingrich. You've stumped me on this one.

Putting aside Gingrich, you are someone who is quick to condemn Clinton for his "immoral acts", but are only too happy to turn a blind eye to the actions of your hero GWB who fabricated the need for a costly war that killed and maimed thousands and cost this country $100 billion. Now you tell me, what is a bigger moral failure in a president. An adulterer or someone who lies about the need for a war?

Funny how you didn't care some much about Obama's credibility before he was elected...I'm not so sure it was Obama's credibility that was the issue as much as the IN-credibility from the other side. Basing a campaign on statements by Joe The Plumber and having a VP candidate who couldn't conduct an interview without making some breathtakingly dumb statements. I think those were the issues that dampened people's willingness to discuss Obama's experience and credibility as a candidate for POTUS.

I think situations like this have been referred to as "shooting yourself in the foot".

Newt has killed his chances for the Republican nomination. Just last month he was praising Paul Ryan's budget and now he's slamming him, and before that he released a video on YouTube where he said he was categorically opposed to individual mandates, and now he's advocating them, even if he's saying his proposals differ somewhat from Obama's

Worse yet, he's just made Rep. Ryan's and the Republican's battle for the new budget harder by giving the Democrats talking points ammunition. He said that he's just as opposed to "right wing social engineering" as he is to "left wing social engineering". Way to go Newt!!.

Hard to explain this. His friends are already backing away from him. I had high hopes for Newt. What a disappointment.

The Republican who laid into him while shaking his hand was excellent.
