Does anyone know why they block the Golf Cart path between Sweetbay's and Lake Sumter Landing, which requires all of the Golf Carts traveling South to turn on to Lake Sumter Landing, merging with vehicular traffic, and drive around through the Sweetbay parking lot in order to continue South. The path is there it is just blocked by a pole leaving access for the 60 ft or so to pedestrians and bicycles. It seems like it would be safer to just open it to Golf Carts.

Too many automobiles stopping to let the golf carts cross, this resulted in traffic backing up in the roundabout. Also, too many golf carts not stopping for the stop signs.

I would guess that the path they blocked up was a dangerous one because of the roundabout exit to Lake Sumter Landing.
The traffic gets pretty heavy at times and, if you were going to cross the street to go over the bridge, it could be quite treacherous with the exiting traffic.
We wondered the same thing and, after travelling that way quite often, reached the conclusion that it was closed for that reason.
This is only my opinion and I could be wrong.

Agree with previous posts - has to be due to too many carts and too many cars.

I believe what the others say is the reason behind the closing of that section. I actually feel safer going the road and making the left.

Although I know where Sweetbay is, I'm not familiar with the golf cart crossing in question... but I do have some questions:
Is the alternate route enough of an inconvenience to justify making a change to the crossing?
Would putting in a tunnel be reasonable, cost effective or affordable?
Would the construction need, if a tunnel were to be added, be too much of a disruption to traffic and if so would it be worth it?
Not advocating anything here; just being courious! http://th754.photobucket.com/albums/xx181/Simon_Gardner/th_scratch.gif (http://media.photobucket.com/image/head%20scratch%20smiley/Simon_Gardner/scratch.gif?o=1)

talk about a wild ride when your using the GPS to get around this area in a golf cart,, but I am sure it is much safer this way,, sure would be great if someone would come up with an IPHONE or IPad app customized with all the activities for that day in TV that would give you directions via golf cart paths. Oh well, we are not sure the light goes out in the refrigerator when we close the door!

My daughter who is 30 and just visited us thought of the same thing...a GPS app for the golf cart trails...I told her to try it...sell the app for a few bucks...I'm sure she might make $10!!!

I don't know if it's a coincidence or not but they closed off the path when they put up the new commercial building.
