Television in the Lanai

If I put a TV in a covered lanai will the Florida weather (humidity)
have any adverse affect to the quality of the picture?

About 5 years ago, I bought a 20" Samsung at some ridiculously low closeout price. It may have been under $100. I figured I'd give it a try on the lanai where we had cable and electric outlets. Five years later, works fine, great picture. Watched a lot of ball games and golf out there. We cover it with a clear plastic bag that fits nicely and bring it in during storms. When we're travelling, we bring it inside.

Hope this helps. Nothing scientific but it works for us.

i had a 20 inch emerson up on a shelf in an outdoor lakeside canopy for 7years. that thing got rusty and nasty but kept on playing!

has outside TV along with Gators...Might have to pay big bucks for outside TV that will handle humidity....We've always wondered about this also...

With todays total solid state flat screen tv's, humidity shouldn't be a problem. Not so with older crt models that had components in the tuner that were subject to rust. Those sets are long gone.

Rain will cause you problem. So keep it covered with a water proof cover if rain can get to it. Don't forget that wind can blow in a lot of rain.

Have had an old old CRT set out there for the last 7 years with no problem. It just keeps on working.

Have a medium sized flat screen outdoors, it's under the lanai roof line and I've had no problem with humidity. It's been out there about three years. Cable boxes don't seem to fare well, at least on our lanai. Have had a couple and they just go "bad" so to speak. Comcast doesn't seem to have any problems with them being outside, protected from rain because the last time the box outdoors went belly up, the Comcast repair technician worked on it on the lanai and finally replaced the one that "died." When that one passed on, we decided we weren't watching that much tv outdoors so we just stayed with the basic channels and whatever HD channels the tv picked up. Also have a DVD player outdoors and it doesn't seem to be bothered by the humidity.

Good point Barb1191. When the houses are so close together, the sound of a television or radio on the lanai can be really irritating. We had neighbors who played their television on the lanai constantly, at a sound level we could hear loud and clear on our lanai. We finally had to ask them to use headphones, which they graciously did.

I have no one living behind my residence and the tv isn't loud. I can understand when someone has a hearing problem and their house is close to another. Headphones do seem to be a reasonable solution to noise, that's for sure.
