JOHNNA

A dog followed me in to the Publix store tonight on Mulberry. After paging in the store , no one came to claim him. I have called the radio station and they have announced it twice, still no one has called. PLEASE help me find his Mom & Dad. He is a silver schnauzer . He has a collar but no tags. He is at my home now, but I work tomorrow and don't want to leave him here.
Thanks!!

Joanna, as a "Schnauzer" mommy, I feel so sorry for that baby. If you need any help, I'll pm you my phone #. Thank you for taking him into your home, that was very kind of you.

Can you get him to a vet to see if he has a chip?

Another Schnauzer-mom here. Thanks for looking out for the little guy. He may be microchipped. A Vet, SPCA or animal control facility can scan him for you.

I just took the little guy into Mulberry Pet Hospital and he is NOT microchipped. He got nervous in the vets office, so I am sure he has been to one before! I have to leave for work in 20 minutes and I'm not sure he would be a good house guest when no one is here.

Deb, yes she did, she brought him right away to the vet and there was no chip. She still has him and I spoke to her this morning. He's an adorable, spoiled dog and is missing his home. I promised Johnna that I would keep the posts moving today as best I could while she's at work.
It has been announced many, many times on the radio.
She spoke to a groomer, since he was newly groomed, and that groomer didn't know the dog.
He comes from the Mulberry area so if anyone knows the names and numbers of groomers in that area, I can call them today while Johnna is at work.
Anyone have any other suggestions that I've missed, maybe??? I think Johnna has been wonderful to take the dog in but she needs help in finding its home.
Thanks for your help....

So glad that he’s found some friends to help him find his way home. The only other thing I can think of right now is putting up some “found dog” posters.

Yep, thanks Sky,,, I'll talk to her about coordinating that when she gets home from work...
Any other suggestions???

Thank you, I just received from totv members, a name of a groomer who I will call now and also a volunteer to help with posters. This is all very much appreciated.
I will keep you posted but does anyone know the # for Community Watch so I can report this dog to them???
Thanks so much.

I hope that the owner is ok. It is strange that they don't seem to be looking for their lost pet.

The owners are probably checking with the local dog pounds, shelters, etc. Please call these shelters and describe the dog you found (color collar, etc.) and give them some contact info to find you.

I still have the little guy. He was a perfect angel today. I took him to Mulberry Dog Park tonight but no one recognized him as a dog they knew. I checked all the mailbox centers in the area to see if anyone had posted signs. I also checked out the businesses in Mulberry Grove. Someone said there was a notice for a lost dog at Mulberry Rec Center, but it was for a black dauschaund. Thanks for the phone numbers for all the agencys. I will call them tomorrow. They were closed by the time I got home from work. Thanks for all the suggestions!

Johnna,
You are wonderful for taking good care of this lost doggie. I so hope (s)he is reunited with family. Thanks for keeping us posted.
Thank you too to KathieI, K-9 Lovsers and others who are helping.
Love,
P
Hopefully the owners of the pooch did not abandon her. With the economy in the miserable condition it is in, many animals find themselves on the street because the owners can no longer afford to keep them. Hopefully, this is not the case here.

I found an abandoned dog once. Best dog we ever had. This dog may have wandered in from outside TV, you know.

He may have travelled quite a distance. Schnauzers are very prey driven and if they see a rabbit or some other prey, they will be gone in a flash and will give chase for as long as it takes. An earlier post said that he was recently groomed, so I think it’s unlikely that he was abandoned. But I don’t understand why he would have a collar, but no tags.

Could it be a poodle in disguise? There is an ad in the paper today looking for a grey poodle! Good luck!

I talked to the lady who lost the gray poodle this morning. She lives in the historic side of the villages. She just brought her husband home from hospic and is so upset. Someone was watching the dog and let her out. The dog is gray but looks blue so she named her blue.... in need of a hair trim. # to call is 750-0321

I still have the puppy! There is no tartar on his teeth so they think he is young. I went to all of the postal centers in the area last night but no one has put up a poster. I also went to all of the businesses in Mulberry- no luck. There is a lost dog notice at Mulberry Rec Center but it is for a black doxie. Today, I listed him under found dog on the Marion County website. If someone put in they lost a dog with the description, they will call me. He is VERY SWEET and WELL BEHAVED, I've left him with my 14 yr old dog during the day and he has been a perfect puppy! They share the food and water bowls . No problems- I've taken him to Mulberry Dog Park the last 2 nights and everyone loves him. I won't have trouble finding him a home --if it comes to that. I'll be checking the paper tomorrow and then put in my own ad- even though they charge $10. Thanks to all who have responded!

The Mulberry Dog Park is run by the Rdog club. I know that they they have a large mailing list and are always reuniting lost dogs with their owners. Contact them, I know that they would be happy to help you. Kudos to you for your loving care of this dog. I am sure that Janet Tutt's office could supply you with the telephone number of their President.
Good Luck

Joanna, perhaps this cute little puppy was looking for you and your 14 year old dog all this time since he was given to the wrong family at birth and always felt out of place.
I think Dr. Phil would agree that you are the intended mother.:p

You can list him here....

site maintained by Karen Tynes at 352-750-1627 or by e-mail at responsibledogownersgroup@embarqmail.com.
Probably placing an ad in the Lost and Found section of the Daily Sun would be the best way to go.

Also, if you call the animal agencies listed in an earlier post, if the owner calls there hoping his dog was turned in or picked up, then the agency will notify the owner where to find their lost dog (with you). These animal shelters and pounds are the most logical place an owner would first search for their lost dog.

I'm beginning to wonder if the owner became ill and the dog got out while EMS personnel were taking care of the owner. Maybe a call to Marion County EMS might be a good idea to see if there were any incidents around Mulberry that day?
Sounds like the pup has a good home for now. Thank you, Johanna, for being such a caring person.

Interesting theory, redwitch. In that case there might be nobody home to look for the dog or let it in

Perhaps this has already been stated...but in this economy maybe the owner could no longer care for him and dropped him near TV knowing some kind soul would pick him up and adopt him. Just a thought!!!

Joanna, you have a kind heart. I know for a fact that people do abandon dogs, even possibly purebred dogs. There are people who won't even go to the trouble of finding a breed Rescue organization, or worse than that, won't even go to the trouble of taking the dog to a shelter. They just drive away leaving the poor dog to its fate. It happens. I will bet there is no one looking for this puppy and your efforts to find the owner will be in vain.

The Schnauzer found his owner!! I'm so sorry I haven't answered you all back. I put my own ad in the paper last week and on Wed a young lady called to claim him!! "Bentley" had chewed up his harness and they had put a new collar on him but had not changed his tags over. She does not live in TV but across 42. They don't listen to our radio station and don't get our paper. She works as a Physical Therapist and one of her clients here in TV told her about the ad in paper. She called and came over and picked him up showing me the collar he had chewed thru. He was very excited when he saw her and is now reunited with his 2 little people too! They missed him very much! I suggested she have him chipped! ( I have had pneumonia since before we found his way back home. But I am feeling better now.) I think my 14 yr old dog misses him. She actually played with him a few times! Thanks to all who gave me ideas and offered to help. With neighbors like all of you, I'm glad to call The Villages my home!!
