I've decided to quit posting in the Political Thread for a little while. I know that will make some VERY pleased. My primary reason is that I have found that I have lowered myself to a level that just isn't me. We're all human and I got caught up in the nasty back and forth that regularly happens here. That's not me. I can stand up for my ideals, but it's not easy in this atmosphere. I'm not making excuses. I accept my faults and intend to work on them. I'll probably continue to lurk in the background.

I am a pretty prolific reader. I have run across some familiar stuff that is finding it's way into this Political Forum and is being passed along as if it's original. This is my second reason for my sabbatical. Plagiarism is more that borrowing words. CLICK HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plagiarism)

Finally, a big thank you to GracieGirl for a little wake-up call in the non-member portion of TOTV. She may or may not have done it intentionally, but it did hit home with me. I'm a better person than the way I have be acting here.

How refreshing to read such a thoughtful and personal post. I wrote ONE political post and promised to not waste my time with any others. It's like when the republicans took such pride in Bush NEVER changing a stance. They thought it meant strength. It does not. It is the ability to learn from one's mistakes and to process new information to rethink one's positions long held that is one of the things that make us human.

I have not taken offense in anything you have written. Politics is deeply personal and emotional because it has a direct affect on our lives. My Dad was a liberal democrat his entire life. Like many in my age group I moved to the Republican Party and that led to some interesting debates in our household. But we are all friends in the end. I arranged to have President Ronald Reagan mail he and my mother a 50th anniversary card. When I drove home for the 50th I waited for my Dad to tell me he recieved the card. He didn't. So I asked him if he received it. He disliked Reagan and his reply was "just like him to waste money he sent me two cards."

Thank god we can freely express our views. Enjoy your respite

Rubicon,

Sounds as though you had a very smart father. One of my buddies did the same thing about having Ronald Reagan's press office send a card to his parents on their 50th anniversary. It arrived in time along with other cards he requested of various celebs. They enjoyed the card from Johnny Carson much more than from Reagan.

You have a good story to remember on Father's Day. I am sure you have done everything to be a good example to your kids as I have tried to do with mine.

Of all the times I've read a post by someone who says that they are taking a break from, or retreating completely from reading or posting to this section of our TalkOfTheVillages forum, it has never been one of the conservative posters to my recollection. Conservative posters do check out for a while from time to time, I've noticed, but never seem to publicly announce it, or feel the need to criticize the forum or otherwise explain their departure.

Regardless, I was just recently starting to enjoy our repartee more and more lately. Anyway; later 'gator.

It took a great deal of courage and insight for you to come to this decision. You truly have character and I applaud you for your self appraisal.

Thank you for your heartfelt posting.

Richie,

Actually you are incorrect about not having a conservative poster check out and not criticize the forum. I remember about May 5 or 6 that Bucco got so mad that he gave a rant and said he was out of here for good.

I think you are usually pretty good at keeping people in check with your humor while still making your point (even though your political ideas are from the Dark Side). Keep it up. That is what we need on here - a little humor and good back & forth.

Just a couple of thoughts from an elitist liberal wing-nut. (And proud of it.)

I just thought of something that will amuse you, Richie. When my daughter (age 27) went through the airport screening at St. Kitts, her bottle of nail polish was confiscated by security. I guess the security agent liked the color of the nail polish.

You could be right Bugs, but I don't remember Bucco doing that. Maybe a senior moment. (maybe selective memory that my wife accuses me of)

Nail polish? That's sounds strange. It couldn't have been over 3 ozs. Flammable, maybe?
