I am in the process of selling my home in Minnesota and will be joining the rest of you in TV.
I have a question about drivers licenses......
1. How long do I have before I need to get a Florida license?
2. Am I required to take a written / driving test again?
3. I have a motorcycle endorsement on my current license. Will I have to re-test again in Florida for a motorcycle?
Thanks,
Gordy

In the Nuts and Bolts forum Moving the the Villages part 2 has some information about getting a Florida drivers license.
Go to http://www.flhsmv.gov/ to see the detailed information.
You will need a Florida driver's license to do a lot of things in Florida. It shows the TV address as your permanent residence so I would do it soon.
There is no written/drivers test required.
And I think the answer is yes for the motorcycle endorsement but I am not sure. Someone that transfered a motorcycle endorsement can tell you better than me.

New residents with an out-of-state license must obtain a Florida driver's license within 30 days of establishing a permanent residence in FL. When heading to the DMV, be sure to bring the license from your former state as you will be required to surrender it in order to obtain the new license.
There is no written exam or road skills testing required to change a valid out-of-state license to an FL driver's license, however you will need to pass the vision and hearing tests.
If your out-of-state driver's license has expired, you may be required to apply for an Florida learners permit and pass all required testing to receive a driver's license.

You have to take an eye exam.

You have to apply for a FL Dl within 30 days.
No written or driving test, but eye vision test is required.
Motorcycle endorsement will be transferred without any problems.

You might check to see if you need a certified copy of your recorded birth certificate with seal, and, if married, your wife may need a copy of the recorded marriage certificate with seal. I needed both just to change my address on a valid Florida license. Has to do with Homeland Security.

The rules changed Jan. 2010 so If you go to this DMV site and complete the questionnaire on the rt side they will tell you what you will need to bring in to the office.

As soon as you get your Florida driver license, you can register your car in Florida and get your new plates. Proof of insurance is required.
Be prepared for a long day and bring your checkbook!!

You don't need a FL drivers license to register your car in FL.

If your out-of-state driver's license has expired, you may be required to apply for an Florida learners permit and pass all required testing to receive a driver's license. In most if not all states, your road test and written test will probably be waived if your out of state drivers license has been in effect for at least 6 months or is a renewed document, but if you have an expired out of state license these tests will probably NOT be waived if your out of state license has been expired for a year or more. However, to be absolutely sure of this you should contact the Florida MV Authorities: http://www.flhsmv.gov/html/contact.html

GeorgeT - I just checked a link with Florida car registration. It definitely says you need a Florida driver license first. Some very useful information on the link. http://www.dmvflorida.org/car-registration.shtml

That's weird. I bought a car in 12/2010 at a Florida dealership while I lived in VT. I obtained FL insurance and the dealer registered it. We moved here in January and I still don't have a FL license yet.

I think you had better get that license fast. Just think what might happen IF a traffic cop stops you and sees the VT license and Florida plates. Might be very costly?

Friend just did this with drivers license and tags, He had someone take him and couldn't get the tags because they had to see the car and get the mileage! Just saying!!! The link above will give the most recent requirements.

Sounds right. I had to drive the car around to the front and the nice DMV lady came outside to verify the VIN and mileage.

My motorcycle endorsement from Alabama was not transferrable because I was not required to take a test in Alabama to initially obtain the endorsement (I was grandfathered in). Since I am not currently riding a motorcycle it wasn't a problem for me.

We just registered and insured a car on June 1st, 2011 in TV but neither of us has a Florida Drivers License yet..... they are Massachusetts Licenses as we technically reside full time in MA. We were told that in order to get our Florida licenses we will need to surrender our MA license in addition to providing either a birth certificate or valid Passport and of course $$$ lol
