My wife recently bought some custom made pillows from Babettes Furniture store. We had bought furniture there before. When the pillows came, they looked cheap and not of very good quality considering how much each of them cost!

When my wife called to tell them she did not want the pillows, they told her that they would not give her the money back or any type of store credit and we ordered them and we own them.

Needless to say, be very careful what you order and make sure that when you sign on the dotted line that you read the contract.

I will definitely not shop at Babettes again they way they have treated my wife over this and I encourage people who live in the Villages to give a second thought as well. We have bought a lot of furniture at Southern Lifestyles and have nothing but praise for their service and prices.

We have purchased a number of times from Babettes, they have always responded to any concerns we have had.
However, we never ordered custom made items from them. Isn't it typical that there are no returns on custon made orders?
Additionally I would take a ride to the store and discuss your situation with the management....you might get a different response.

I agree with Bogie, Babettes has been very good to work with and from my experience, I always thought that anything custom made was not returnable. Sorry for that, but perhaps you could post some pictures of the pillows on here or Craig's list and sell them? Maybe you won't get full price, but at least you won't be out all the money? Sorry you had such a bad experience.

We've purchased from Babettes and haven't had any issues. It could be that your pillows were "custom made" and many stores have a no refund on custom purchases ( baring defective items ).

We have made numerous purchases from Babettes and found them to be very customer orientated both in terms of price and service! Custom ordered material rarely, if ever, is returnable.

The OPs advice of being careful what you order and read the contract is a good one...something he or his wife probably should have done themselves.

I too am a satisfied Babettes customer so I would need more clarification of your ‘bad experience’ before I would cross them off my list.

If you ordered the pillows from in store swatches and the pillow material is different, then bring them in and show them. If they were ordered from pictures in a catalogue, that’s pretty dicey. If they appear to have shoddy workmanship, bring them to the store and point out your concern.

Simple buyer remorse is not a valid reason for returning custom made items.

We had a custom covered recliner for our bedroom from Babbettes. We felt the price was more than fair for it and all went smoothly. We picked the fabric and the recliner was ordered with that fabric.

There isn't much to a pillow. Four seams, somtimes piping around the edges, sometimes fringe, and the choice of the material you chose. The fact that it is custom means that they ordered fabric and fabric for that use is often $35 a yard. If the material you chose is a disappointment, it looked that way at the beginning, even if the fabric wasn't cheap.. Pillows are simple to cover. The only thing that could go wrong is to have the seam not straight, which I think would be hard to mess up. They are charged for the fabric you ordered which really won't match easily to someone else's decor and the money for person who sewed them. Thus, the "no returns" on custom orders. (AND the high price)

What was your disappointment exactly?

I am sorry that this happened...and I feel for you. It is hard to conceptualize a little scrap of fabric into the finished product sometimes.

Have to chime in on this one.

Bought our sofa from Babettes and ordered additional pillows. Same problem as OP. Poor workmanship, inadaquate filling and basically look like crap. Paid $150 for 2 pillows, went to the store with the pillows and Babettes told me "Tough" they all look like that.

I won't be returning.

Hard to believe you can degrade a companys reputation on "pillows"..... I would be very surprised if they actualy told you "tough" (your quote)...If they all look like that, did they look at what you previously saw?

Exactly my feelings and the exact same thing happened to us. Two pillows looked like they had ears on them.

Went to Better Business Bureau with complaint and they followed up with Babettes and Babettes replied that we were shown like pillows in the showroom which we were not and that the only reason we wanted to return them was because we found cheaper pillows elsewhere. When in fact we did buy new pillows because we were in no way going to put out those crappy pillows. Everyone who come to the house and saw them all said they were cheaply made and believe me like you they were not cheap.

It really wasn't the pillows, although they are shoddy, it was the attitude. "Tough" might not be an actual quote, that was the attitude conveyed.
Also if I saw pillows that looked like the ones received do you really think I would have odered them?

Bob, mine have ears too.
