Geesh. I should've taken a moment to proof read the above post. Eye, finger, iPhone keyboard malfunctions made my post above read as almost a different language.

Louie Louie is in English. The lyrics were very simple and had no story behind the song, so The Kingsman's destorted guitar drowned out the singer and lyrics. (perhaps on purpose because of the dumb lyrics) One of the main reasons it was a bit hit was because people tried to figure out the words. I bought the record and played it at 33 rpm trying to get the words. It wasn't until DJ Murray The K was giving out the lyrics if you sent him a self stamp return envelope.

voulez-vous couchez avec moi, c'est soir......or something like....I know what it means but not the name of the song. doh! It's lyrics from the song "Lady Marmalade" and was sung by Christina Aguilera and probably some others. More importantly DaleMN, do you realize that you pretty much just asked everyone in TV if they want to sleep with you tonight?

Pretty sure the hit was with Patti La Belle:click:It was both LaBelle & Aguilera and both were No. 1 hits... but 26 years apart. BTW, I did state "and probably some others" to indicate there could have been more artists that recorded the song! http://tinyurl.com/3cxfw7s

Hi Tom.......his name was Murray, Murray the K
yeah he's a hully gully man.
I remember the days when you either listened to Murray the K on 1010 WINS or Cousin Brucie on 77 WABC. The only song I could come up with was Besame Mucho.

Another reason that the words to Louis Louie are so unintelligible is that it was recorded live in the studio on one track. A microphone was hung from the ceiling several feet from the singer.

For those who are interested, it is the story of a Jamaican sailor who is going to sea and longing for his girlfriend. Not one dirty word. Here are the lyrics.

Louie Louie
CHORUS:
Louie Louie, oh no Me gotta go Aye-yi-yi-yi,
I said Louie Louie, oh baby Me gotta go
Verse 1
Fine little girl waits for me Catch a ship across the sea
Sail that ship about, all alone Never know if I make it home
CHORUS
Verse 2
Three nights and days I sail the sea Think of girl, constantly
On that ship, I dream she's there I smell the rose in her hair.
CHORUS
Okay, let's give it to 'em, right now!
GUITAR SOLO
Verse 3
See Jamaica, the moon above It won't be long, me see me love
Take her in my arms again Tell her I'll never leave again
CHORUS
Let's take it on outa here now
Let's go!!

The Beatles, of course, did Michelle. The whole song was not in French, but "Michelle, ma belle, sont le mon qui vont tres bien ensemble, tres bien ensemble"

Looks like the Beatles did songs in various languages.

They did two, I Want to Hold Your Hand and She Loves You only because the German division of EMI (the parent of The Beatles' British record label Parlophone Records) decided that the only way to sell Beatles records in Germany would be to re-record them in German. The Beatles thought it unnecessary, but were asked by George Martin to comply, recording "Sie Liebt Dich" on 29 January 1964, along with "Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand", at the Pathe Marconi Studios in Paris. The Beatles recorded new vocals over the original backing track to "I Want to Hold Your Hand" but "She Loves You" required them to record a new rhythm track as the original two track recording had been scrapped. Both songs were translated by Luxembourger musician Camillo Felgen, under the pseudonym of "Jean Nicolas".

We always called that song One Ton 'a Maalox.

What about Sur Le Pont, D'Avignon, en y dance, en y dance--or something like that. The "dance" part might be incorrect.
