Looking for recommendations for garage door service. Our door is 14 years old and needs service. We want to avoid poor service and get someone who knows what they're doing the first time. Thanks

14 years old and not serviced - if it has an automatic opener don't stand near it when is operating because the main spring has a 7 year life span before it breaks and drops the door when operating.

Ours is about 5 years old and we had RoMac service it recently. They seemed competent and service call was $49. You could call the Villages Warranty Dept and see if they have a record of who installed yours.

I agree with the Romac service. They did a good job on mine. They have an ad in the Daily Sun almost every day.

Do not call Discount Garage Door. Check The Villages phone book carefully because there are 10 full page or partial page ads. Of those ten large ads, 3 1/2 are listed under different names but all of the 3 1/2 have the same telephone number, which will be answered "Discount Garage Door". I called The Villages Garage Door and guess who I got.
Discount Garage Door and I got taken for a bigger ride--over $700.
Ask around your neighborhood. All of the springs seem to go about the same time, but the cost can vary a lot, especially if you call DGD.

Yesterday (Saturday) at 3PM one of the springs on my garage door broke with our cars inside and no way to open the garage door. I called several of the repairers listed in the Yellow pages but most were closed. One said they could make it out on Monday. I did reach Ryan O'Collum(352 617 0522) who is also in the Yellow pages. (page 262)

He got to my house by 4PM and by 5 the repair was complete for a reasonable amount.

I would not hesitate to call him again and would recommend him to any one.

I think Romac installs a lot of the new garage doors on new homes. They came back for a small issue and fixed the problem. I really would recommend them.

Another vote for Romac. We had a tuneup service on Tuesday and although I don't have the invoice handy at the moment, the total bill was $82, and that included the cost of an extra remote for the golf cart that we asked to be brought when they came for the service!

Anyone have the phone number of RoMac and/or a contact person there? Thanks.

Ryan O'Cull 352-351-1752 installed two openers for us last year at an increcibly low price and came back a few months later to readjust the sensors when my big feet got in the way -- charged me nothing for the service call. I'd recommend him without hesitation.

Garage door wouldn't open today, presumably after nearby lighting strike yesterday.

Called Romac, they couldn't come until next Tuesday, they were booked for a week.

Called Ryan O'Cull, he was here 30 minutes later and he replaced the control board and the door switch. Price was very reasonable.

Highly recommend him.

He was reasonable and quit knowledgeable. Would definitely call him again.

Concur. DO NOT CALL Discount Garage Door! The springs on my garage door broke on Sunday and DGD came today, Monday PM. I have a Camellia style house (frame version of Gardenia) with the standard 16' aluminum garage door. The technician (Roger) offered me two packages. #1 was replacement of both springs and the bearing for 10 year warranty for $638.25. #2 was same as #1 plus replacement of all rollers, tracks, etc. for lifetime warranty for $846. I was shocked but elected package #1 after a small discount was applied. The technician told me The Villages (Romac) installs builders grade springs which only last 5-6 years. Mine lasted 8 years. He said I was lucky. He put in much larger springs and said they were manufactured for 100,000 cycles. But for that price, I will NEVER call DGDs again!

Another vote for Ryan O'Cull. He is fantastic!!!

After waiting 2 weeks for Romac to get back with an estimate and not being able to move cars out of garage, I searched on TOTV and got the recommendation for Ryan O'Cull. Called him and in 10 minutes he was at the house, gave me a written estimate immediately, forwarded it to the insurance company and 2 days later (today), he is installing the new door!!!
Can't say enough good things about this great guy, his attention to detail, response and interest was 100%. I'd recommend him anytime.

Romac obviously is too busy doing new builds but at least they should have been honest with me.

Thank you Ryan, you are a super contractor!!!

I called DGD and got a quote of $650 to $850. Charged $35 for quote and left. Called Ryan O'Cull who charged $185 for springs replacement including an opener repair. He finished in less than 30 minutes. Ryan is also professional and great to work with.

Had same problem with Discount Doors - wanted $700.00 for springs. Gave them their $35.00 service charge and called James Anderson 352-330-1145, came in a couple of hours and charged $180.00.

Thumper wasn't very good. He forgot the 1st appointment. Wasn't prepared for the 2nd and had to go get supplies. I had a remote problem in April, door wouldn't open. I called all his numbers several times and left messages but never got a callback until I was home in VA. in May.
Sorry Thumper, but....

Our garage door opener failed on our golf cart door. Light codes showing "short" in system. Checked wiring myself all seemed ok. Called Romac the installer and they wanted $95 JUST TO CHECK IT OUT sometime tomorrow. Parts would be extra of course. Called Ryan O'Cull as recommended by others on this forum. He found the problem, replaced the entire board which was bad, and charged me $85 out the door with the caveat, "if you have any more problems, call me and I'll be here right away." From call to repair was under 90 minutes. Now THAT is service. Thanks to those who recommended him, and thanks to Ryan.

Another vote for RYAN O'CULL 351-1752 :bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

We just had Ryan O'Cull repair a problem with our garage door.

I wish all contractors had his work ethic.

His response was quick, did the necessary work and the total with parts was $35.00.

He left his card, told me to call for any other problems related to garage doors.

We also discussed garage screen door options and he made recommendations.

Seems to be an honest man and I definitely will use him in the future if needed.

We used him based on TOTV recommendations

I really hate to agree with your post because Thumper is such a good guy, but he installed a screen door on our garage several years ago and it has NEVER worked correctly. It refuses to go up and down automatically, you have to stand with your finger on the button until it decides on it's own and in it's own good time to work, and sometimes it gets right to the garage floor and just goes back up ............... Thumper has been out several times and just cannot get it working properly. I think I will call Ryan and see if he can make it work!:icon_wink:

Just used Ryan yesterday......lowest price, quickest response, and fast installtion. I also wanted him to check out my garage door on another home we have and, after I described what it was doing, he told me how to fix it for nothing. FINALLY, the perfect contractor

:rant-rave:Called Romac Yesterday (Monday) morning around 930 and left a message that our garage door opener does not close...

It is now 1pm on Tuesday and I am still waiting for a return call to schedule the repair.

Will never use them after this.

Just bought a house In Lake Deaton. Never have I heard as many complaints about garage door openers as I have on TOTV. One of my first tasks will be to trash can the builders opener and install a Craftsman. Haven't had a problem with Craftsman in 30 years.
