Questions about TV Team Sports

Some questions about how tryouts and placements work for the various sports teams in TV:


When are tryouts scheduled and how are they announced?
Does everyone who tries out get placed?
How soon after tryouts are you notified of team placement?
Do any team sports have a waiting list?
Is placement in the appropriate division first-come, first-served, or another method? Or does it depend upon the sport.
How often are new teams formed in various divisions to accommodate demand?

If you participate in any team sports in TV, please share your experiences of how things work. Any answers or insights you can provide will be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I can tell you how things work for men's softball
First thing you have to do is go to 3 evaluations within a 12 month period.You can't play without doing this so I went to mine on 3 consecutive Tuesday mornings.At these evaluations there are at least three veteran players and or coaches that watch you hit,throw,run ,and play defense at the position(s) of your choice.Once you have home to the 3 sessions they tell you what division you can play in .Divisions range fro 1 thru 5 with 1 being the better players 5 being the least skilled.I believe they do this so folks don't get hurt .I also believe there isn't a waiting list .There are 3 seasons in softball fall,winter,& summer.Hope that helps.Any other questions you have about softball let me know.If I don't know the answer I can find out.

Do all ages play in these 5 divisions - Or are there divisions for certain age ranges? Something like ages 55-60 and 60-65 etc. Thanks...

Age isn't the determining factor it's ability so yes all different ages play together.There are guys in their 70's playing on the same teams as guys in their 50's.I do believe there is a classic league for guys 70 & aboveDo all ages play in these 5 divisions - Or are there divisions for certain age ranges? Something like ages 55-60 and 60-65 etc. Thanks...

Hello Bosoxfan, I do have a few questions about Men's Softball.. We will be in The Villages as true snowbirds staying in our new home(we are so excited!). My husband is interested in Softball. Is there a Mid-January to Mid April leaque, or can he "jump in" any time? He hasn't played in over 20 years, but would like to get involved in January when we are there. Should he bring his glove?

I am a casual tennis player - by that I mean I've played off and on for probably 35 years, depending on where I lived and whether or not I worked full-time or not and how old my kids were, etc. Last time I was rated (for an indoor league), I got put on a 3.5 to 4.0 team, but I think that was just because they needed another person to fill out the league. I'm probably really a 3.0-3.5 player. However, it helped my game to compete with better players, so maybe now I'm truly a 3.5, who knows.

Anyway, I played in the monthly pizza social at Tierra del Sol Rec Center last year (only once). Meant to do it more but stuff happens. It was fun, but not serious tennis; however, I will definitely do it again. Met some nice people.

I'm only interested in the free tennis. There is more at Glenview, but I think there are fees involved.

Was told that I could show up on Thursday mornings (I think) and get rated in TV and could then show up for like-rated playing, depending. Didn't have time last year, but plan to this year. In my experience, once you start playing, you will likely get asked to sub in other groups, and eventually play as much or more than you want. That's pretty much how tennis works everywhere, IMO.

It's most fun to play at your level, in most every sport.

If he wants to play he must be evaluated. That is he must go to 3 Tuesday morning evaluations a Saddlebrook Softball fields. He will be placed at a skill level from 1 to 5. He then has to play in 1 game a year or be reevaluated. Don't be discouraged if you are not rated level one. You can move up a level each season or play for a few games and work the kinks out and get evaluated again. Once evaluated he is eligable to be on a team or to play as a sub at the appropriate skill level. If he is placed on a team he will be expected to be at 70% of the games. So it sounds like he will be a sub. At the evaluation they will tell him the days of play at his level. There are people who have played all their lives and play every day in TV (level 1) and in other FL leagues. There are also people who have not played for a long time and play one or two days a week (level 5). The fall season starts in Sept.
