The City of Cambridge MA is going to pay it's gay public employees an added stipend not available to heterosexual employees to cover the increased costs of providing health care for their newly legal spouses.
It seems that even though gay marriage is legal in MA, it's not recognized by the federal government and so the additional stipend is meant to offset the added tax same sex couples have to pay to provide health coverage for their spouses.
