A while back I posted that I was interested in the Villages but had some reservations because my husband (Steve) has always stated that he HATES Florida and hot weather....well, because of this, I timed our Lifestyle Visit for the beginning of July. I figured that if he sees that this is possibly the hottest it gets and he can cope with it, maybe he'll come around. We were there for 5 days, during which we spent time exploring and looking at new homes. Hubby didn't say much, even when I (stupidly!) suggested we go to the driving range in the middle of the day. Last night he confessed that he agreed to go to TV with me because I would see that it's not all it's cracked up to be. After saying that, he said that he has had a change of heart...that it would be a great place to retire! This morning, as he left for the office he stopped while getting into his car, looked around and said "I can't wait til we get rid of all of this and move to Florida." yaaaaay. Thank you to everyone that made our visit fun. We'll be seeing you!

What an interesting year to "test" the heat in Florida. We are on a four month trip around the country and today is the first cool day we have experienced. We are in Custer, SD, it is 12:30, and it is about 60 outside. Over the next few days it is forecast to be back in the 90's, over 100 in some areas.
Our travels have taken us up the east coast to CT, then west. We have only had a couple of nights where it was comfortable enough to leave the AC off and the windows open.
We'll be on the west coast in about 3 weeks, I'm sure we will have steady cooler weather once we get there.

Some people take longer to sip their cool aid. I'm sure he will thank you for it in the future.

you planning on him checking out the heat and realizing it is doable and his plan of thinking you would get over it once you came. Guess we know who won this p.......ing match!!!!

Trish, I purposely planned my first visit to TV last year (stayed in Comfort Suites hotel on 441 with friends) and this year (renting a villa in Chatham) in July to see how I would deal with the heat and humidity. So your plan to visit in July was smart. I knew I would not have a problem with TV's weather in January, but wasn't sure about the summer months since I will need to be a full-timer if I relocate to TV. Hope you find the house of your dreams in TV.

Good for you Trish! We are down here for the whole month of July. Sure it is hot. But when I talk to my family and friends in VA and my sister in PHILLY (who always asks "How can you move to Florida...it is so hot?) they tell me the temps are up near 100 with heat index of 110! I would much rather be "sweating it out" here in TV! Enjoy your day!:cold:

I was exactly like your husband but one day I returned from work and told my wife I made a deal with my company to let me relocate to Florida (with a reduction in pay as the sweetner) and asked her to put the house up for sale. I have been in TV now for about 14 months. My only concern, since I am 6 years away from retirement, is that if my job goes away I have a big problem. It is a gamble that I hope will pay off. I have relocated 7 times in my life and my fist rule was to never relocate to anyplace where there were not a lot of job opportunities for me since many of my former employers went out of business. That rule saved my butt a few times in my life but this time I left it dangling out there without a safety net so I find myself in the weird position of wishing that i get older faster.
