Hello folks,

Effective Friday July, 15, Talk of The Villages will be under new ownership and administration. Tony, Darrel and I have had the pleasure of watching this forum grow from nothing to 17,000 members in four short years. It continues to grow in leaps and bounds every day and it has caught the attention of interested business enterprises.

We have had a wonderful opportunity to work with all of you and I know you are curious about the new administration. The gentleman who will be know as "admin" is Kenneth and has family and friends who live in the Villages. He is also a veteran of forum operation. He will likely be posting shortly to introduce himself to all of you. He will be bringing some great new ideas and resources to this forum family. I know that it is natural to, sometimes, resist change, but this will be good for all. We will be working with the new owner to help make the transition as smooth as possible. None of you should miss a beat.

I think I can speak for my partners when I tell you that we feel like you are all personal friends. We will still be around from time to time to join in the fun and conversation. In the meantime, please continue to enjoy Talk of The Villages and tell all of your friends and neighbors to join in.

We value the thousands of hours that we've spent with all of you.

Best Personal Regards
Jan Kokochak

I suppose this will be a nice break for you three, but sad for us.

I have been reading this forum for awhile and just recently got on and started to really get to know you. I do hope you do continue to post as I will miss you.

what a sad day for us, but I am happy for you to have created such a wonderful resource. I found TOTV when I was only thinking about making the move from VA to this wonderful city. As I posted my many questions, I was made to feel very welcome, and such sensible advice was offered, that it became easier and easier to take the plunge, sell up, and move here. I wish you all well. Kind regards. SHRandell (Sandra)

kudos to the first team! and thanx for all that you have done to establish and maintain this board - but most of all - to bring us all together as a family!

i trust that as wise as your decisions have been in the past, this most recent decision will prove as beneficial and fruitful in our future.

welcome aboard to new admin kenneth!

Verrrry interesting. As an early adopter (March 2007) I've had the pleasure of watching this forum grow from taking maybe 5 minutes a day to read all posts to struggling to keep up with it now. I've met a number of wonderful people via this forum.

Thanks to TH, Tony, and OBD for all your hours of work and diligence in keeping this forum alive and civil.

Change, especially unknown change, isn't always easy. Time will tell if this change in ownership will have a positive, neutral, or negative impact on the members experience. Welcome, Kenneth... Congrats on "inheriting" a thriving, active forum. I will be interested to see what your plans are for managing or changing the forum in the future. I have no doubt you will be given a fair and hospitable welcome from the members.

Dear TH, Tony and OBD,
Thank you and kudos for creating and growing this fabulous forum. One need only spent a minute or two in an unmonitored Internet forum to appreciate the ongoing work it took to keep TOTV the safe and friendly place it is. I owe many friendships in TV to you and I cannot begin to express my gratitude for that!

Please stick around. We've come to see you as family.

All best wishes that the happiest days of your life are ahead of you.

oh, by the way...

would you just drop us a line someday if the Developer sends you a check for x millions as a quiet, gracious way of thanking you for providing the conduit of so much information and enthusiasm which was a key factor in convincing hundreds, maybe thousands to check out TV and end up here. It would be a classy thing to do since TOTV has been so important in helping him earn xxxx millions. Some of us think he might be classy, but we're not sure.

....I'll just wait here for the good news....

Shocking!!!!! Kudos to y'all....Jan, Tony & Other Brudder Darrell (OBD). :eclipsee_gold_cup: So sorry to see you leave :crap2:

This website has become the backbone of TV and it would be nice to get some recognition from the developer for what this site has done for the developer's sales, however, don't hold your breath.

Welcome to our new leader Kenneth and best of luck in your endeavor. See yah around and we'll leave the light on for yer....:gc:

Most of us are such dedicated members to TOTV and hope it remains with the high standards we have become accustomed to.

Found TOTV about 6 months ago and our transition to TV has been easier and more fun ever since. We have found quality contractors and services, become aware of the many issues affecting the community and become aware of various entertainment oppurtunities. As things change we are apprehensive, and optimistic at the same time. Thanks to all who were involved in the creation and administration of this forum and to the new operators, please keep up the integrity and quality that you have inherited:BigApplause::BigApplause:

Best wishes to you three. As a relatively new poster and soon-to-be owner of a home in St. James, TOTV has been a true wealth of information. I have learned so much about TV.........gained "online friends" who I hope will be lifelong friends.......and enjoyed a little "fluff" along the way with some fun threads.

My wish, Kenneth, is that this forum will continue to bring us information....have a little fun with it as well. I would like for those who love to tear down the developers to cool it. The solution for those who are not happy in TV and love to be so negative is simple....move. There is no utopia....but from what I've seen and what I'm looking forward to.......this "TV place" is pretty darn close!

Thank you.........you three administrators.......for all the positive things you have done to enlighten past, present and future TV-ers as to whatz goin' on!

The deal was cut in a dark, damp 12 by 12 cubicle. An old, palm bladed Casablanca fan hummed and spun slowly in the seedy, secret back room at Crispers. The fan sliced through the smell of stale cigar smoke as it gently moved the thick musty odors captured in the confines of this windowless cell. The only light was a single, soon to be banished, 60 watt incandescent light bulb. It dangled from a cord, spliced together with electrical tape, attached by duck tape to a water stained ceiling. The only entrance to the room was guarded by Darrel. His mirrored sunglasses eerily reflected the contraband light bulb swaying slowly to the beat of the Godfather theme coming from Darrel's iPod. Those shades covered the cold, beady, calculating eyes of someone you did not want to cross. He muttered softly, with hints of anger about the government, light bulbs and someone named "Granny State".

In a dark corner of the room, barely visible on a bar stool, sat Tony. The butt of the 9mm stuffed under his belt could barely be seen under his unbuttoned leather jacket. But, you knew there were deals on the table that he would not allow to be refused. The creepy moose head on the wall, over his shoulder, begged more questions than answers.

Jan sat quietly at the green, felt covered card table under the revealing glow of the outlaw bulb. The half full, or was it half empty, bottle of Kentucky bourbon, a single glass, a dirty ashtray and ugly cigarette burns were the only evidence of action on the table. He was thinking about the big score and the new Gold Wing that was in his future. Suddenly, as the stranger entered, his old cop instincts brought him back to reality. He instinctively patted his hip for the ever present piece.

The dark, menacing figure passed under the watchful, focused eyes hidden by Darrel's sunglasses. Tony spread open his leather jacket. The stranger carried a thick, black briefcase. Was it filled with money? Was it a bomb? Was it an Uzi carrying case. Was it filled with Mary Kay cosmetics?

Who was the mysterious buyer?

Was he an agent of the developer seeking to secure the only independent media voice in The Villages?

Was he a shill for the Villages bashing Orlando Sentinel seeking to expand its
agenda driven news empire in the wicked heart of Disney World for adults.

Was he there secretly representing the interest of a banished TOTVer seeking the ultimate revenge

Was Jan's bottle half full or half empty?

Wait.....could it be........is Fumar the new administrator?

To the founders of TOTV - Thank you for the memories. Thank you for providing an exceptional venue for the exchange of ideas and healthy, stimulating cerebral exercise. .

To the new administrators - Hang on and enjoy the ride. Good luck.

Hi guys, (Yes you too Darrel) I just want to add that without TOTV, I wouldn't have met some of the best and dearest life long friends I have. Truth to tell -- not everyone I met through this forum has been wonderful, but I will say most are, for sure.

Poor Tony and Jan... you had to shake us by the scruff of our necks many times. Especially me!!! :p But, you also came to bat for me on more occasions than I can count. The one thing I really hope for is that Darrel never runs for President... or ever even votes again! :22yikes: Seriously, I wish all of you best wishes for your future. My favorite wishes -- Love, Laughter and Light. And even though your "minds" may not have always been in the right place :loco: -- I know your hearts and souls were.

You've allowed me to fight tooth and nail in Political, make bawdy remarks at Fumar, made Gracie Girl Top poster for such scintillating posts as "Boy, howdy!" Taught us (or tried to) respect each others views, kept the conversation alive and the information flowing. I hope the new owner knows he has very big shoes to fill. (And I mean that sincerely... Jan, I've seen your feet!) So, dear friends... Thanks for the memories...

(singing refrain) " The cruise to, who knew where...
We didn't have a care...
The snipes and gaffs,
The fun and laughs,
For all that we have shared...
I thank you sooooooooo much".

And to the new admin, welcome and fasten your seat belt.... You're in for a bumpy ride! :1rotfl: Just kidding. You will loveeeeeeeeeee us! :)

This forum is by far the best. It has been well managed, designed and kept under control. New management always makes me nervous. There are some very big shoes to fill here. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Many thanks to Jan, Tony and Darrel for the untold hours of pleasure I have enjoyed as a result of their efforts.

This thread just proves what a fantastic forum this is, and how brilliant all the members are, both new and old. Cabo, Chels, great posts!! To all the members who love to highjack threads, you did your jobs well, but you won't have the topic cop (Tony) to watch over you now, so let's not get tooooo carried away.

To Tony, Jan & Darrel, I will miss you guys a lot. You have done an extra-ordinary job and had a vision for this forum and dedication to make it the success it is today. Please keep in touch, don't abandon us too quickly.

I've had so much fun and learned a lot from this forum. I have met some absolutely wonderful people and would like to consider all of them, forever friends!!

Incidentally, Tony & Jan have both been to Crispers and actually Jan attended one of the earliest meet & greets 4 years ago at Starbucks (I think it was there.)

To Kenneth, welcome to TOTV, I hope I can maintain the title of "The Mayor" or do I have to run for office again?? Good luck to you and let me know if you need any help in keeping these folks in line!!!!

Kathie, if you have to run for Mayor again, then I think that Fumar should have to run for Dog Catcher too!

Hopefully the new owners will visit our next Crispers luncheon, introduce themselves, and maybe give a brief talk of what to expect in the coming future. To tell you the truth, I've been going to these luncheons for over a year now, and unless I missed something have always been surprised that none were there.

Shimpy.

That is the beauty of having a FORUM, one doesn't have to meet someone in person to introduce oneself and to give a little synopsis of who they are and what they are doin' and why they are doin' it.

I am sure that Kenneth will too,(Give us a bit of a bio) The only other person I have heard whose name is Kenneth is the guy who does hair in New York. I am curious as to where this Kenneth lives and what his last name is.

Chelsea, that was a great post and we all have a great debt to the founders for all of the great information AND the joy, the laughs, the tears..the frustration and even the anger of "knowing" people only on the internet. This site was the reason many of us bought our homes here and for that I will be always grateful. I too have made forever friends here, and learned a great deal about life in general too.

So on we go. I can't wait to see what will happen when someone steps outa line and who will do what to who.

This is the MOST interesting place!!

Thank you to the three of you who started this and welcome Kenneth. Do you do color?

Kindest wishes,

Dear X-Admin's
Now that I've recovered from shock I would like to make a comment about some of the positives that will come from this change....
Hopefully the new owner will make some changes and initiate a new forum about the negative trauma that all the dogs are causing here in TV..As you know this has been the theme of my many posts and I would like to apologize to start off on the right foot......
Also a new rule that states if you post over 5000 hits , you have to state something of value..I may have overstated myself a little and hopefully didn't hurt anyones feelings.........and the term " Boy Howdy" although very endearing is not unusual to someone born in Missouri....although it does bring back a lot of memories of my childhood.....also I would like to apologize for the remarks I made about Chels regarding her mouthwash , which was unkind and I apologize.....So as you can see I have pondered this calamity looking for the bright side for sometime for something to be excited about , Today I think I have found it.............

And this is just my personal opinion.(and I am frequently wrong)

The personal reactions, barbs, witty responses, one liners, gotchas and even the disagreements, etc. are particularly interesting and enjoyable to read in this forum. It is a wonderful place to gain information, but many people very much enjoy the wit and wisdom not related to where to buy a golf cart, what the bond is, and where the dog poops.

Again...JUST MY OPINION.....:D

If we were all exactly alike, they would only sell vanilla ice cream.

Hi Nitehawk,
The supposition that there's some exclusive circle within TOTV has been made before. I'm curious why.

New and veteran posters often banter back and forth among each other. We befriend each other. We tease each other. For some posters, this is not their cup of tea. No problem. Each has his/her own style and the vast majority of posters has something of value, positive or negative, witty or wise, on the mark or funny off the wall to contribute. Some of us can be quite silly at times (Guilty as charged. That's just me).

FWIW, the notion of being "outside the circle" reminds me of a poem by Edwin Markham called, "Outwitted":He drew a circle that shut me out —
Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout.
But Love and I had the wit to win:
We drew a circle that took him in.

nitehawk - Here's a different slant on things: When I was brand new to this forum and would just 'lurk', I'd get a kick out of reading some of the interpersonal comments, verbal jousts, slung barbs, and so on....and I still do. It gave/gives me a bit of insight as to some folks' personalities and how they look at things.

I guess I look at the forum as more than just a place to strictly get/give information. The other communication aspects I find interesting......but that's just me. Kinda gives the forum some 'personality' - gives it other facets than just an information exchange. Granted, some of the interpersonal 'stuff' can get a bit carried away at times - I'm probably a prime 'violator' of that concept! On the whole, though, I think it's a bunch of fun and very informative. But it's probably not a one-size-fits-all thing either - everyone's going to have their own personal perspective. Just thought I'd share mine!

Nitehawk, you have a good point. We probably do get carried away at times! I'm not part of the "inner circle", and I don't have over 5,000 posts. But I am good friends with some of the posters, so I guess I'm an offender, saying personal things occasionally.

I do find it annoying to click on a thread about Street-Legal Golf Carts and find ten posts about the price of asparagus, or who lives in Idaho. But I figure I can always quickly skip through whatever posts don't interest me.

Overall I think we've got a very congenial group that try hard to be polite and inclusive. This particular thread is of a personal nature cuz we're saying goodbye to the Big Guys, which brings back memories. I remember meeting Jan (Talkhost) and his wife way back in 2007 at one of our first TOTV meetings. I bet that Jan still has a picture of the group. Oh darn, there I go again!

We remember so many things......like when Barefoot started the "Girl Talk" thread and we had so much fun there.......and.........and......ohhhhhhh........I just cannot let myself get started or I could actually end up sitting here all night going on and on with "A Not-So-Brief History of TOTV." I would get all nostalgic. So, this time, I better stop before I start.

When I first saw TOTV in 2007, I did not even know what a forum was. Being internet-shy, I watched for a while and then decided that people seemed nice and so I signed on. I have had a lot of fun. Thank you.

And now.......one more time........

Dear Mr. Tony, Mr. Admin Emeritus, Sir:

So many, many times, you have gone beyond speculation and have actually flat-out accused me of being an English major.

English majors have to be so careful because they are so often besmirched. And somewhere along the line, you got it in your head that I am an English major.

What was it anyway?

Was it the story I told about my English teacher friend who lied about her job when she met a guy she liked? But if she did not like him, she told him that she was an English teacher so he would just move down another barstool and leave her alone. (You thought that was me I bet. But it wasn't. Really. It was my friend.)

If I were not so darned lazy, I would dig through these archives and find all those times you set your traps and tried to catch me......

You even posted a cartoon making fun of English majors partying. Ohhhhhhh, I remember that cartoon. It showed English majors having such a good time at their party, playing "Pin the Apostrophe in the Right Place." (Ya know, when you posted that one, I probably should have tried to gather up a few English majors around here and invite them to a party and then I would invite you, too.....just so the English majors could play "Spin the Science Major." How would you have liked that.)

But now, here I am, in the wee hours of the morning -- unusual for me to be awake so late -- here thinking about how henceforth you will be known as Mr. Tony, Mr. Admin Emeritus, Sir. And so.......

I have decided the time has come to tell you that even though you were a science major, the fact that you were also a newspaper editor somehow made that narrator who lives in my head see you as being kind of like our own Lou Grant, watching over things and taking care of stuff.

And I am saying thank you. (Yes. I know Ed Asner is too old now to play you in "TOTV: The Movie" but that's OK. We'll find somebody.)

And now, guess what else I am going to tell you........

You were right.

You ARE an English major. Boomer? An English major? I never would have guessed.

But thanks, Boomer, for the fond send-off, but don't you think "emeritus" denotes such an old person? If you really were an English major you would know the fine nuance of word meanings. Or do you?

On the whole, though, I think it's a bunch of fun and very informative. But it's probably not a one-size-fits-all thing either - everyone's going to have their own personal perspective. Just thought I'd share mine!

Bill, I agree with you up to a point. I too find it interesting to view the banter back and forth, the good natured comments and teasing, etc. But there have been times when one person in "the circle" posts something negative, then others get on to back up the person if someone else calls them out or disagrees. I've seen where a group will gang up on some poor poster because he/she had the audacity to disagree with one of their gang. IMHO this is taking it too far, and perhaps that was what nitehawk was referring to. Thankfully, that type of behavior seems to be on the downswing, and haven't really seen a lot of it recently. Maybe people are learning how to play nicely.

Good point, taj. An observation: I can recall instances where some of the backlash I believe you're speaking of seems to get propagated not necessarily by the content of the points being made but the tone of it all - - - HOW the points are presented. Things that start off pretty edgy will many times head straight downhill from there. Then everyone's piling on! :D And you're right - I think those instances are becoming fewer and farther between.

Hats off to Taj, Diskman, nitehawk.

I appreciate you telling it like it is...:BigApplause:

I was the target of the few which think they own this board.

There are way too many thousands of great activities, and great friends here to be on a computer.

Bill, I appreciate the way you give good info to posters. Keep up the good work!

Good points, Taj. Ganging up on a poster is not good-natured comment. It's rude and ill mannered.
