I feel compelled to write this story because I need to know whether or not this tale is unique to Villagers or just to a crazed WNYer who will become a Villager. Bear with me. We have lived in the same home for 31 years.
My wife sent for the DVD years ago and has been a lurker on this site for as long as I can remember. "We have to look at The Villages", is all I have heard for years.
Since we knew we would retire to Florida some day, (I have been coming to Florida since 71, my parents moved to Lake Placid in 80, my brother to Clearwater and sister to Lakeland about 81), and being Disney junkies, I believed the only place that we would end up in was the Cinderalla Castle or Celebration. Wow, was I wrong.
My wife finally talked me into driving up to TV on Sun, Jun 12. We spent the day looking at spec homes or new builds (whatever they are called in TV land) and she bought everyone we went through! Everywhere we went, everyone we met had an ear to ear smile. At first I didn't know if these people were part of the cast, Panara was adding something to their lattaes or these people were genuinely happy. Well we know the latter to be true.
We ended up in Spanish Springs listening to the band in the square and I was amazed by the friendliness, politeness and enthusiasm. The cleanliness, the bubbleness. I was sold.
As we drove back to the Dis, I was waiting for the wife to re-announce that she was quiting her job (I am already retired) and we were moving. Oh happy days.
Back in Buf on Jun 18, TV calls to tell us that they will contact three local realtors for us. We interview from the 21st to the 29th. On Jun 30 the house is listed but the listing agent is not happy with what we want. We throw in the warranty and agree to lower the price within two weeks if no interest. Sign in the ground and internet listing on Jul 1. First showing Jul 2. Feedback was "outdated". Well, two more showing prior to open house on Jul 10. Things are looking up. Open house comes and while 17 prospective buyers tour we count 31 homes in our immediate area for sale. Not feeling too lucky now. But, when we arrive home, our agent tells us we will have 3 offers by Monday.
Contract for sale is inked on Tue, Jul 12. Home inspection completed on Fri, Jul 15. Now waiting for buyers' (no contingencies) mortgage commitment which will allow my wife to pick one of her 7 scientifically chosen homes (whatever that means). The movers start this Thr with their estimates. Oh, I forgot to throw in the part about the wife breaking her hoof (foot) while we were strolling around Niagara Falls waiting for the buyers home inspection! Now, so long as the government doesn't default prior to our buyers mortgage commitment we should be living in TV hopefully in a home and not a side by side refrigerator box by the end of September.
I want my next major decision to be what color the golf cart should be.
Does this sound familiar or is it unique to me?

Sounds pretty normal to me. One visit and you are hooked.
Most people are blown away at how incredible TV is. Some people have come to see TV and wind up buying on their first visit.
Some people recommend taking your checkbook for your first visit.
There are not enough words to describe it. Congrats on moving to TV.
Stay tuned for more stories. :)

This is the only place I know that people post the countdown till they get to The Villages and then announce that they are finally there!!!!
Most of us dream and plan for years before we get there and finally after 8 years... we are in the home stretch!
Congratulation!!!! You are one of the lucky ones! Just were is your new home going to be???? :highfive:

I believe it has been narrowed down to Tamarind Grove. But in 30 seconds it could be St James. Is 1st choice CYV then Cottage, whichever is available when our buyer's money is secured.

Sounds pretty normal to me.... :D We visited for a couple of hours one day, came back a few days later and told our sales rep to start looking for a new home with the specifics we wanted. Took him a few months, but the house was found. Put our old house on the market and within a week or two, we had interest. House sold quickly and here we are.
Bringing a checkbook when one visits is a very good idea.
Congratulations on your smooth transition to TV...you're going to love it here!

Believe in all the outlandish-sounding puffery you may hear! If you read outlandish praise about The Villages on this board, believe every word of it!
No, we're not paid by The Developer to publicize TV! We just live here and cannot be happier! :highfive:

We rented for the month of July in 2006 just to test out the Florida summer, no real plan to buy. Bought a spec house on July 7. I think Mr 07 was in shock for a year. Took awhile to sell the house back North but it was all worth it.
Thanks for sharing your story. Let the adventure begin!!!

Something about the great people from Wheatfield....we know what we want and when we see it, we go for it! I found my wonderful lot in St. James within 24 hours of arrival. I'll be closing the end of next month.
No more :cold:
Hope to see you at the pool. Congratulations on a great decision!

FYI Western New York never experienced the housing boom that the rest of the country had. I recently spoke to a realtor who told me our market here in WNY is one of the best in the country.
WNY has a lot of positives....but THE WEATHER is not one of them. Bring on TV !
