In the July VMail, the director of Design had a little video clip about the new fire station and comm center being built south of 466A. As he was describing the location, he said something to the effect that it will be near the new Colony executive golf course slated to open this fall.

Did he mis-speak and confuse this with Bonifay championship course?

Does anyone have the skinny on the next exec courses south of 466A?

The information I got was that the new executive course will open sometime in 2012. It will be in the same area as the Saratoga range. The current practice green at Saratoga will become a green on the course (2nd I think). The Saratoga range will occupy the opposite side of the lake, hitting back toward 466A and should open this fall. They will continue to use the practice green near 466A, but eventually they will build a practice green on the new side.

The Bonifay course will open sometime in November.

Mike... Thanks for the update. That sounds like a reasonable plan.

They typically name each 9 holes a name. What are the names of the courses that will make up Bonifay?

does anyone have a schematic layout of the 3 nines at Bonifay? I am unable to find any on the Sumter Co site. Would love to see a layout of the holes.

if you go to Utube and look up Bonifay golf course you and see videos 1-6 and the first one give a layout of the courses. :posting:

Is Bonifay located south of 466A near the brand new Village of Sanibel? And I'm not even a golfer...just curious :)

On www.districtgov.org , there's a link to 'District Maps' that used to have an "All Districts" map option. It's showed detail of everything in TV, including the new areas for District 9 and 10 south of 466A. For whatever reason, it's no longer on the web site.

However............"through the miracles of modern science"..............I snagged a copy of that map file when it was available and saved it on my pc. The names of the three Bonifay courses are Destin, Fort Walton, and Pensacola.

I had heard that three exec courses were slated to be built in the area of the current Sarasota driving range and new firehouse. In searching the County web site I could only find a reference to the new starter shack that was recently built. It gives a rough idea of where the course will be.

Referring again to my trusty map file, the three Colony executive courses are named:

Sarasota (located around the pond where the current driving range is),

what looks to be Escanaba - some of the lettering is obscured by other graphics of the course (located behind the Colony shopping area that on the south side of 466A), and

Volusia (located further south of the Escanaba course).
