It's official, I am hooked on TOTV. I find myself 'visiting' my computer waaay too many times a day, just to see if there are any new posts. After checking the posts, I then go on to "THEVILLAGES.COM" just to look at all of the new listings, both new construction and pre-owned. It's gotten so bad, I turned the volume down on my speakers so my husband can't hear the Villages theme song...help!! :22yikes: The first step to getting help is recognizing you have a problem, upside to that is realizing that there is a solution...all it's going to take is to sell everything and retire...see you soon and keep the posts coming!

I've been "addicted" for 2.5 years... and you know what? I DON'T WANT ANY HELP with my addiction!! I don't think anyone can help me. I LOVE my addiction!! Just go with it. Relax and let it consume you. Let it take it's course and the solution will appear some day! I'm still a wanna'-be, gonna'-be as well.

It helps me feel connected to TV. :)

reminds me of something funny I saw one day (and no, I'm not making fun of alcoholics..heck, I may be one someday)...anyway, I was passing a medical building with a bunch of people on the front lawn, sitting around in lawn chairs. Above their heads was a huge banner "ALCOHOLIC'S ANONYMOUS MEETING"...umm...kinda defeats the whole anonymous thing, doesn't it??? Hey..it appears that we have started another club (just what the Villages needs!)...TOTVA....Talk of the Villages Anonymous!

I hear you Trish....the only thing different from you and me is I don't have a husband in the house anymore that I need to turn down the speakers for....Oh and I also check on rentals on a continual basis. I'm still going through the buy or rent debate in my mind.....I am in the process of selling virtually everything I can at the moment. Not only will I retire when I move but I will start a whole new life!

Thank you thank you thank you. I thought it was just the wife and I that had gone nuts. We wake up in the mornings and talk about TOTV and TV. This is Saturday and we have spent at least 6 hours on this forum. The folks on here have fabulous advice. By the time we get there I will know who to call for everything. I know the next 9 months will fly by but we can't wait to come down December 13 and finalize the house plan on the lot already picked out. We are spending all of our time talking about the villages. We can't wait to drink the kool-aide and become Frogs. :posting: I can't wait to meet all of you folks in person.

Hi my name is Dan and I'm a TOTV addict. My addiction has gotten much worse after we purchased our home in Buttonwood. I blame my addiction on those TOTV members ( you know who you are ) who enable me by their clever, continuous and witty posts - not to mention their PM's.

While trying to relax at home here in MA, there are times I hear beckoning calls from other TOTV members coming through my walls telling me to sign on to TOTV because I'm missing yet another important new post. I've learned to fight the urge, but now that my wife, Floss, has her own TOTV ID, she has enabled me to surrender to the urge to check for "new" TOTV post.

In the end, there are worse addictions to have....I hope!

So for more than a year before we bought I would get on TOTV after my work wTOTVIt was extremely informative and helped immensely in making the choice of The Villages and the house choice as well. I am compulsive about getting my work done first then playing, For over a year before we moved here I would allow myself a treat - to get on TOTV after my work was done. I often travel and sometimes on the road I wouldn't finish my reports or preps for presentations etc until 11 p.m. That's when I would get on TOTV. Trish, Somehow you can sign up with an MLS realtor to get all of the new MLS listings (and price reductions) in TV e-mailed to you based on your criteria (home size, price, etc.) I usually get about 2 or 3 e-mails every day sent to my work e-mail address for these listings. Hey, I can't spend all of my work day looking at invoices and purchase orders. My employer's IT department will probably slap my hand sooner or later for these e-mails... :ohdear:

I am guilty of checking in often also. If I mention TV one more time at work, my coworkers might beat me over the head with whatever is handy. I am sure they are sick of hearing me talk about it. I even have one of the floor plans pinned to my cubical wall to remind me of what I am working towards.

I turn off the sound on my laptop when I want to check out new listings. I am torn between a Patio Villa (I am one person, how much room do I really need?) and the Woodlawn courtyard villa.

Schaumberg and I are in similar situations. I am a wanna be who is planning on being a FROG some day. Not today, not this week, not this year but some day.

I visited for a short afternoon two years ago. Instead of making things better, it made my itch 200% worse. Sigh.

Can't say I check in during the middle of the night, I tend to sleep like a rock.

I have 4 T-shirts with TV designs which I wear puttering around the house. I do on occasions go to You Tube and watch the same developers presentations. I do go to Yelp to see what reviews are there for TV restaurants though I am 900 miles north. I do spend a couple of hours in the morning reading TOTV chats but I don't consider myself an addict.

Trish

Trish,

This could just as easily have been written by me. Since I got The Villages bug, I can't stop thinking about how I'm going to spend my time there, where I'll live, and who I'll hang out with, and I'm still a good year and a half away from retirement.

Oh well, it beats checking Facebook and Twitter, doesn't it?

We have had the disease for three years now. It only gets worse as the years pass ( and they pass very slowly) . I sometimes call my wife at work and play the Villages song, or send her a picture of Sumpter landing. This thing controlls our life. We recently took a couple weeks to visit family in Michigan and came back through the Shennandoa Valley in Virginia. I am more excited about our next visit to TV (Labor Day) than I was our trip to Michigan. Therapy won't work. Hang in there all! We are trying.LB & LB

The first thing I go to on the internet each morning before work is the web cams of Sumpter and Spanish Springs. Can't wait until there is on in the new square!! Always check in again after 5:00 PM to the web cams again!!

I am currently in Mid-Atlantic and my license plate frame is of TV. I have two caps with TV logo which I wear most of the time.

Yorio, Da Nile is just not a river in Egypt :)

Gail and Trish, My nine year old niece thinks I'm moving to TV in a few months (I think she's planning on a trip to Disney World and she wants to stay with me). I keep telling her, not this year, not next year but someday...my goal is to be in TV by the time she graduates from high school, God willing and the creek don't rise... And is 2 visits to TV this year another sign of addiction?? I'm guilty as charged, but I get 6 weeks of vacation, so I might as well put a couple of those weeks to good use.

I am going to stop now and have an early lunch and then get back to TOTV so I can post some more Ciao.

De Nile is in Egypt but like cable across the Atlantic comes up in Florida and pops up in Lake Miona. But, I still don't have addiction like many of you because I didn't pick up my I-Pad for 24 hours to look at what's going on TOTV. Though I did go to You Tube and watched line dancing at Spanish Springs.

Trish the basic tenet of Zen is as follows: All is sorrow. Sorrow derives from desire. Eliminate desire and you can then eliminate sorrow. I keep threatening my bride with that ideaology but she is always one step ahead of me. I'm so easy. Its like my brother says. All things in moderation....and I require a lot of moderation:D

Laura, you and I are so close in our planning and when we hope to move it is scary. If I can retire when I am 62, I am 8 years and 7 months way but who is counting? :p I may move down before I retire. One of the advantages of having a portable job. But like you said... The Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise!

It was fun meeting Trish and her husband Thursday night. I think I saw their friends roll their eyes a few times as we spoke about the Villages. Trish confided to me that when she can't sleep, she lays there and thinks about how she will decorate her new home. LOL I have done that also.

Sanity is highly overrated. :-)

Back to the title of this thread - I think I may need an intervention because I am in Europe on vacation and logging on. I am getting German ads on TOTV. One is a GroupOn ad for German restaurants. I know there are some other folks living abroad who log on too so assume they have noted this as well.

Aw man, I have the itch to get to the Villages BAD today. I took a look at the recreation schedule and there are so many things I want to do (quilting, polyer clay, beading, scrabble, bingo, line dancing, etc.)

I also looked at the resale properties and think "Ohhhhh I like that one! And THAT one!". Am I in a position right now to buy? Nope. I just keep torturing myself. This usually happens when I am not slammed at work.

Ditto.

While waiting for my condo to sell, I sometimes look at properties that I would like to purchase and tear up knowing I can't buy it immediately.

I try not to torture myself but I do occassionally especially if it is a property that I would buy in a heartbeat. :(

I have to say this. Some dear friend from Buffalo said I should ask the fellow who saw to the building of the basilica there years ago, Father Baker, to intercede for us. I did ask. Our house sold in nine days. Wouldn't hurt to ask.

Yes, the TV schedule sure is better than ours. Work, work, and more work. However, the pay off will be so sweet.

We started the count down to retirement five years ago, and friends keep telling us, those years will fly by. Not happening, since we found about TV nine months ago, its torture. Three more long hard years.

I love the idea of the countdown clock..I have 47 hrs and 7 minutes until I start my first trip to to TV. I feel fortunate to be able to spend 3 weeks in TV to be able to immerse myself and drink as much kool aid as possible. I'm also happy that I convinced my kids to come down for part of the trip to see what TV is all about and why their dad is so excited after visiting TOTV and all the other websites. They don't understand how I could be setting up to meet people online and in advance to play golf and for meetings and wine parties when I havent even met them. We live in an amazing age of technology to be able to do this on the Internet. Imagine back just 20 years ago how we would not have this opportunity to network.
I am looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can over tine next 3 weeks. BTW when is the next TOTV meeting and the next meet and greet.
Now if I could just convince my girlfriend of 8 years to come down over the next 3 weeks so she can get some kool aid too! I'm still working on it.
