We ordered a 2011 Yamaha gas cart yesterday and went to get insurance. We were quoted $193 without uninsured motorist and $250 with!! I always saw prices here are under $100. Where are you getting your insurance for so little? Thanks in advance for your help!

One place to check would be The Vilages Insurance. They offer golf cart insurance through Foremost Insurance, They can be reached at 1-800-449-2169 or 352-753-2280.
They offer reasonable rates and its all based on driving record (points or no points) and credit reports.

Shop around. I have mine with American National Property and Casualty (bet not many have heard of it). I believe Allstate may be a good choice.
It may be the insurance companies are experiencing more than anticipated loses and prices are increasing.

We are paying approx $75 for our 2011 Yamaha gas cart through Allstate. We do have a multi-vehicle discount since we have two carts, it would probably be a few dollars more for a single cart.

I have had Allstate for three years. last year there was a big jump in my premium and I paid $112.93. Just got my renewal for 2012 and it is only $62.08. Does anyone know what is going on with Allstate?:undecided:

USAA quoted us for $80 a year as a second vehicle and that was for a LSV or Golf Cart.
Now I am not getting a LSV so lets not get into a posting war but the Florida Agent for USAA was very nice to deal with.

We just obtained quotes for a 2011 Yahama last week from Allstate and the cost w/o uninsured motorist (UM) was $61 a year. The cost with uninsured motorist was $90. The quotes however included good rider, multiple policy, home ownership and full pay discounts.
We also obtained quotes from The Villages Insurance and it was $135 w/o UM/170 w/UM. No discounts applied.
AAA came in at the highest from Progressive with $178, but no details. That doesn't matter to me anyway since it's highly unlikely that I'll ever, for a few different reasons, purchase any coverage with Progressive.

ditto...and we have an umbrella policy for $206/yr that increases coverage for home and auto and cart substantially.

Can you tell us who your carrier is? Villages Insurance is just an agency - for Homeowners' at least, they sell multiple lines. We currently have golf cart insurance with Allstate - 2 carts, no multi-cart discount, no UM cvg or collision cvg, just liability - both property damage and bodily injury - about $73 every 6 mos for both carts.
I am not sure if they check your driver history for golf cart insurance or not, or if your age makes a difference.

The age and value of the cart are what made our insurance higher then some folks are telling you.

There are a number of factors that affect the actual price we're given by the insurance companies. Just look at the different prices I and others have been stating for each respective carrier. I believe it's best for each to seek out their own quotes rather than depending on what others are paying. Our stated amounts could give you a general idea of cost, but at the same time it could also be misleading!

We had our homeowner's insurance with Sheri Miller at Villages Insurance at Spanish Springs. It was only $506 a year for a masonry CYV with sink hole and wind damage coverage with a company called Intergrity. We called Sheri when we bought our cart in July. It's a 2011 Yamaha gas with all the upgrades and with $10,000 coverage she put us with Foremost for $130 a year. My car insurance is with USAA and they were actually higher.

I carry Auto Owners insurance on two vehicles that we have in the villages and there is a rider on our auto policies at no charge for our golf carts.

When I got a quote from USAA their golf cart quote (<$100) was for use ONLY on a golf course or for travel to and from a golf course but not for use on public roads. If in fact you travelled on piublic raodways, they rated your golf cart or LSV as a second vechicle under an auto policy and VERY EXPENSIVE,

Property damage liability - $100,000, Medical - $5,000, Collision & Comp. - $100 deductible, and $1,000 for accessories like wheels, enclosure, radio, etc.

CAR GUYS - I too have USAA. I called USAA for golf cart insurance. Because my golf cart isn't street legal, they said I need to put it on my homeowners policy (I tried to use USAA for homeowners but they don't offer it in FL, but they have a relationship with ASI), so USAA tfr me to their ASI rep. ASI said I'm covered for everything under my homeowners, except physical damamge to the golf cart. If I want to get $5,000 personal property coverage (the max they offer), they have a $75/yr rider BUT that rider only provides 50k pers liability - and even though my auto, homeowners, etc. all provide for more coverage - if it happened on the golf cart they would only pay a max of $50,000.
Something doesn't sound right - who/how did you get your golf cart covered?

I also was quoted around $190 from AAA then I checked with Allstate and got if for $100. Some get it cheaper than that if you also have your home and auto with them.

First you need to find out what uninsured motorist insurance covers. I was at the Village Insurance office today regarding this coverage re my cars. I was told that it covered medical costs to myself and riders if struck by someone not insured or underinsured. Well, if I am covered medically by medicare part a and B and a supplemental, why do I need this coverage?
It was also suggested that it protected your riders. Well for how much? $10k , $20k, $100k, $1m FOR SOMEONE other than you who is responsible.
Confused?

We're paying about $10 less than you, but that might be because I had more discounts for multi-vehicles and other reasons. I think there were about 4 or 5 reasons listed. The discounts are probably why we get lower quotes from Allstate than we did with AAA or even with TVI. TVI quoted for Formost and that was nearly as high as it was at AAA for Progressive.

This is a typical explanation of uninsured coverage (UM)from agency staff personnel, and as usual it's incorrect.
UM coverage reimburses you for damages you are legally entitled to collect from a liable party who is uninsured. While it will pay for medical costs you would be able to recover from a liable party who is insured, it also covers you for wages lost, past and future pain and suffering, disability and any other legally collectible costs associated with the accident.
Assume a loss of a hand in a serious accident. While the medical bills may not be extensive, the future disability is worth a substantial amount. UM coverage would allow recovery for such a loss. Underinsured coverage (UIM) would pay in excess of whatever coverage the insured liable party would have. So if he had 25K in coverage, the UIM coverage would kick in up to the policy limits of that coverage.
You need both UM and UIM despite the typical incorrect information usually provided by the local agents staff.

Most of the policies that were given for street legal golf carts are not valid.DMV is requiring PIP insurance on the policies to be able to renew tags.We know someone who was sent away at the tag office because the policy didn't have PIP.You will have to show an insurance card at the DMV office showing you have PIP coverage. We checked ours,we didn't have that coverage either. We now have a policy that has PIP.It is thru Allstate.

We are paying $38 per year as an addon to our homeowners with Hartford. The major issue with most golf cart owners needs to be liability not damaged-most of us will never put in a damages claim since even a small damages claim would make our insurance premium go up.

Somehow something about this does not seem right. Why would an insurance agent tell you to LIE about your golf cart on a rental agreement? I think a call to Allstate's head office would be in order for further clarification. I withdrew my golf cart from my rental as my agent (AAA in The Villages) told me rental property is NOT the same as my personal home. I can give permission for guests staying in my HOME to use my cart or car and I'm covered should an accident occur. When a contract, i.e. rental property, is involved and money is exchanged, its a different set of rules and my golf cart is NOT covered by insurance and I'm subject to a liability suit if anything should happen. Better to be safe than sorry.
