Has anyone been on the tour that the owner of the shop in Spanish Springs takes people on to Machu Picchu Peru? We've spoken to him a couple of times but for the price
($2400 not including airfare), we would like to speak to individuals who have actually been on one of his tours.

Senior:
I've heard that getting to Machu Picchu the comfortable way, by train, etc., involves an altitude much closer to 11,000 feet. Can't locate anything at the moment to confirm that, sadly.
I definitely scratched the site off my Bucket List a number of years ago when I had difficulties visiting in Denver - and, making it to the third floor of my house in St. Louis! :D

Sorry, I also can't answer the particular question you asked. I have been in the shop here in Spanish Springs and have overheard the owner talking about the tour, and looked at the photos. It just makes me want to go again.
Several years ago we did a three-week, self-guided tour to Peru with another couple. We left our sailboats in Venezuela and flew to Lima. Our friend planned the whole trip without a travel agent. She used the "Lonely Planet" and the "Footprints" guidebooks as her sources. The hotels were probably one star or so but clean, with hot water.
We had a fabulous adventure!
No matter how you go, it'd make sense to read a good guidebook and then be in a better position to judge any tour that is being offered. I can't speak to the price quoted, other than we found Peru to be very inexpensive and not at all threatening, as long as you minded your surroundings.
Many people seem to be affected by altitude. The organizer of our trip was but the rest of us didn't really notice it.
Please PM me if you'd like more information.
