We were just in the same boat!! Difficult not knowing anyone and having had the same GP for the past 40 years! I have had an appointment with Dr. Jose Rosado at the Florida Heart and Vascular Center near the hospital. He was recommended by a couple who had been going to him for years. I had to wait about a month to get an appointment but I really liked him.

Can't help you with cancer doctor but for a GP we went to Dr. Jeffrey Robinson who is with the same network as Dr. Rosado. He is in Leesburg and The Villages so you have to specify which location. My husband liked him very much but I'm not so sure about him. He seems capable and has about 30 years experience but something about his bedside manner doesn't sit just right with me. Could be just me!

I have a 2nd opinion scheduled next Monday with Dr. Abrantes 352 259-7900 who is highly recommended on TOTV.

Good luck! This is one of the most traumatic things about the moves but I'm sure once we have someone we feel comfortable with we'll feel more settled.

Thanks for the response Wendy. Yes, it is very traumatic. The worse part of our move. Well, moving all our belongings wasn't a picnic either. And unpacking. UGH!! LOL

I have been reading thru the "Medical and Health Discussion" section for over 2 hours now...LOL. What a pain. Found quite a few recomendations that I wil be checking out.

Good luck with your search also.

Ocala Oncology was recommended to me by someone on the TOTV who had the same kind of cancer I had. She thinks the world of this doctor. I have my first appointment in two weeks. I can tell you that the staff I spoke to were kind and helpful. Dr. Berger 352-547-1912. Good luck!

For a cardiologists I'd look for someone associated with Monroe in Ocala . . . hospital has much better cardo department if you need surgery in the future.

The September issue of Consumer Reports focused on heart care. In the issue they rated the top heart surgery groups in every state in the US. In Florida there are 10 groups rated as above average, CR's highest rating.

Closest are Munroe Heart in Ocala and Leesburg-Ocala Heart Institute in Leesburg.

Dr Hector Garcia of Florida Cardiovascular Specialist 259-4460. Both my wife & I have gone to him for the past 10 years. He is great. Dr. Rakesh Rohatgi,Hematology & Oncology 750-5105. My wife has been under his care for the past 4 years for 2 different types of cancer and we consider him a life saver.

I go to Florida Heart and Vascular and have been pleased with their care.

As far as a Cancer Center, Moffitt in Tampa and soon to be in the Villages, is one of the best in the country. I am a cancer survivor and was treated at Moffitt. I still go there once a year. It is not a bad drive as it is on the USF (Univ of South FL) campus on the south side of Tampa. Here is their web site. http://www.moffitt.org/

Thanks for the link to the Leesburg and Villages doctor photo list. Very informative. Amazing that 90% or perhap more doctors graduated from a non-US medical school.

Leesburg Regional has been found top in the field in the U.S. for cardiology for the past 4 years!

Just saying...

Makes me think maybe American educated doctors do not want to deal with us Medicare folks!! I'm not putting down foreign doctors. I'm sure they are probably well-educated and maybe more so than Americans but I sure find it difficult to converse with some of them! I had a very good Opthamologist from Pakistan for many years but it was a challenge to understand everything he said. When it comes to health issues I'd feel a lot better if the communication was clear!

I visited an Urgent Care here in TV and the doctor there recommended 2 GP's. Dr. Gerald Brown and Dr. Dante Nuzzo who are both in Leesburg. I went to Dr. Nuzzo (University of Florida College of Medicine) only because his waiting list was shorter. Even though I like Dr. Nuzzo and he was very thorough and spent over 1 1/2 hours with me, I'm thinking about switching to Dr. Brown because he is a Yale University School of Medicine graduate and for some reason I feel better about that.

Actually I may be rethinking my review of Dr. Rosado. I had some cardio issues since I have seen him and called Wed morning to see if I could make arrangements to see him asap. Was told I could see him at 3 p.m. but I'd have to go to Leesburg. I jumped at the chance as I felt I needed to be seen but on my way to Leesburg the office called me and said I could NOT see Dr. Rosado as he was not in Leesburg and they did not know when he would be there but I could see a PA in the office or I could see Dr. Rosado at a later date but it would be much later. I agreed to see the PA and she was very nice but I don't feel comfortable with a PA for my symptoms. BTW I got to the office in Leesburg early and several patients were coming in to see Dr. Rosado and being called back so I assume he was there afterall.

Also, I have glaucoma and did a lot of research to find a specialist when we moved here and wound up seeing Dr. Schramm at Lange Eye. He did a good workup and sent me home with a bottle of eye drops with orders to come back in a month to check the pressure. My appointment was set for August 4. Last week the Lange office called and said Dr. Schramm would no longer be coming to the Villages office and I'd have to go to Ocala to see him but they could make me an appointment with another doctor in their office but it would be October before I could be seen!! I just declined and started over with my search for another Opthamologist in The Villages. Hope my eye pressure is ok until I can find someone!

I want a DOCTOR that I can count on being there when I need one!
Is that too much to ask?

Cardiologist--- Dr. Georg Couturier on Main Street, Spanish Springs is very good. His practice is "Heart of the Villages" 674.2080. Dr. C. did wonderful things for my father-in-law when he was very ill. I know about ten people who swear by him.

I have Dr. Hurt at Florida Heart and Vascular as my cardiologist and like him very much. He is in TV and Leesburg. My sweetheart who is a retired GP also goes there. He had by-pass surgery by Dr. R. Duane Cook at Leesburg Regional Hospital and was impressed by all of his pre and post-op care. The surgery was highly successful.

We both go to Lady Lake Family practice. He sees Dr. John Burress and I usually see Dr. Burress' nurse practitioner, Sylvia Wallace, who I like VERY much. She is extremely thorough and really listens to one's concerns. I especially like that all of their records are computerized.

No cancer treatment experience, thank goodness.
