Howdy, all!
My wife and I are visiting my mother and stepdad here in TV over the next couple of weeks. We're looking at possibly moving here as soon as we can--about two years, after the last kid gets sorted out. ;)
We wanted to visit during what's pretty much the "worst" time of year to see how it affects people's activities. I want to get away from where we are now (Sierra foothills in CA), winter and summer both pretty well keep me indoors. I want to go someplace where I can get out and about at all times of the year, so I don't rusticate inside.
I'll be posting in the appropriate forums about our interests and other questions, but I wanted to give a quick introduction.
Thanks,
Mark
Edit:
Thanks, all! We're really enjoying it here, and we may be able to make the move in a year if the youngest cooperates and gets into the school she's planning for. :D
We stopped by a game might at Bridgeport rec center tonight, but there wasn't anyone there for the open gaming, just the village's Euchre team. We like board games (Settlers of Cataan, Smallworld, Ticket to Ride, etc.), but I'm also looking to find folks interested in wargames and RPGs, a couple of my pastimes.
There's another open board game night in Churchill Street village rec center tomorrow (Aug 4th). We're planning to stop by there, and try again.

It depends on what you mean by "worst" time. In the summer, the temps get up there in the mid 90's with humidity. Most outdoor activities are enjoyable in the AM, although you can still see people on the golf courses or pickleball courts in the PM. PM and evening thunderstorms can affect outdoor activities.
In the winter months, primarily January through April, we have an influx of seasonal residents and renters that affect traffic and can make it harder to get the tee times and recreation activity slots we desire. Harder, but not impossible.
Hope that helps.

 Wow... are you in for a treat!!! We are Wannabes and can't wait to get down there!!! We knew as soon as we pulled into the town square of Spanish Springs eight years ago that "this is it"! After eight years of looking for the "right" place, we stopped looking at The Villages!
Can't wait to see your posts after you experience it!

I have been to TV three times in the past year. My husband "dragged" me down in June 2010 just to check it out. It was hot but it was hotter up in VA at that same time. Loved it...knew right away TV was the place for us. Came back in October 2010 "my own free will" ...the weather was still warm, alot more people, and alot more traffic. But I still loved it. Spent the whole month of July 2011 in TV. Bought a house in Tamarind Grove within a few days...enjoyed the rest of our vacation. Again it was hot but hotter back in VA. Still love it. This time my husband had to "drag" me kicking and screaming back to VA! But we will be back soon! BTW I don't think there is any "worse" time to be in TV. You will love it!

Hope you brought your checkbook. Don't think you will hold out the 2 years you are aiming for after spending some time here this summer. You will succumb at an accelerated rate as I and most of my fellow Villagers have done. Good luck in your venture.

Hi Saundby,
Welcome! You ask an excellent question. It is true that summers in Florida are hot and humid, with temps in the 90s. Thing is though, TV's got you covered. We have swimming pools and recreation centers for every neighborhood, so matter where you live in TV, there are ample indoor and outdoor activities close by.
Here is a link to info on TV activities. http://www.thevillages.com/Recreation/recreationActivities.asp
Winter here are mostly moderate with some cold/ very cold weeks. Our extended spring and fall weather are divine.
We serve a Kool refreshing drink in many flavors here 365, so please come visit any ole time.

:welcome: to TOTV.
The Nuts and Bolts section which has a three part post by "zcaveman" is a thread I would recommend reading.
Another one is "Everyone seems to love The Villages, I liked to hear what you hate", by "diskman".
Keep on posting.

tainsley, Thanks for posting about the larger crowds in October vs. June. I rented in Chatham last month. I will be back in October renting in Sabal Chase so it will be interesting to see if I notice larger crowds and more traffic in October. FYI: When I came back to Chicago (after being in TV last month) I had to run my A/C non-stop for a week it was so hot here. I thought I was back in TV, but no palm trees or nice golf courses to look at while having lunch.

Shaumburger,
October is my favorite month here. The snowbird population does increase, but not to the level that it gets to in January, February and March.
I am anxious to meet you. I'll leave the light on for ya.
Hugs,
GG

Gracie,
Thank you for the kind words. It's only 2 months and 3 days until I'm back in TV for one brief week. But who's counting...
