Our great room is quite dark and we are considering having
a solartube installed.
We would appreciate any information you may have regarding
the company you have used and whether or not you are satisfied.
We are concerned about leaking and the effect this will have on our
roof warranty.
Many thanks,
Grammie B

Go for it. I have two tubes in my living room/kitchen area (I have an Iris) and the difference is WOW! We used The Solar Guys. (If you need more info, PM me and I'll give you all the details) PS: They have a sale going on now so it would be a good time to look into it.) I never heard of anyone having leaks. Good luck with your lighting needs.

:agree: They use lots of black silicone caulk around all the holes they cut. My wife was not very receptive to the idea before we had them installed (4), but now she is sold and tells everyone about them. We also had 2 solar attic fans installed. Don't know if they help, but I figured they couldn't hurt. It still gets hot in the attic and the garage, even with the access door open. The Solar Guys did our also.

Greg's story is the same as mine. My wife wasn't thrilled about having the solar tubes until they were installed. She loves them now. Makes a big difference. I also did two solar attic fans and like Greg, I am not so sure how much they help but they can't hurt.

I have a courtyard villas and had a solar tube put in my kitchen and it is amazing! I hardly turn on my kitchen lights anymore. I also had a solar attic fan installed. I used the Solar Guys and they guarantee their products as long as you have the same roof. I would highly recommend them!

Have had them nearly ten years. No problems. They really make the areas much brighter without the heat skylights produce.

You'll not be sorry you had them installed. I've got three in my house and have had no problems. They brighten dark areas and fill them with natural light, it's wonderful.

The Solar Guys did our installation and they were efficient, quick and cleaned up any "mess" that was made....and there wasn't much of that.

When installing in rooms with plasma TVs, does it cause glare or welcome light? My wife an I love bright rooms but I cannot live with TV glare!

Thanks for sharing.

Will I have time to watch TV during the day while in TV? Well maybe for sports!

Most of the glare we notice with the plasma TV we have there in TV (? :) ) is from any light source that's at the same level/height as the set. The light from a solar tube is clear up at the ceiling and is diffused. Would you see its reflection on the screen if things are situated "just right"? Yes, but I don't think there would be an issue with glare.

And to your last question: I'd suspect that you already know the answer! You'll be so busy doing "stuff" that you won't have much time for watching shows during the day!! :pepper2:

We have three new solar tubes (kitchen, bath and laundry) from the solar guys and we love them....When you leave a room you automatically reach up to turn off the light only to realize that the light isn't on....
One thing I didn't plan on are nights with a full moon , there is enough light to walk through your house without flipping a switch...and during a lightning storm you feel like you should play the Bee Gee's disco album,,,
seriously , there great .......

Saturday Nite Fumar ..............:pepper2:

Yes. Fumar is correct about the stroblight effect when lighting storms come. It is more entertaining than the lava lamps we used to have in the 60's.
