I have been a user of the Sumter County library system for 9 years now and basically they have done a good job. I use their on line system to find and request books. This way I do not have to spend time at the library. Until now I have always been able to see where I stood on the hold list and to request them to look into why I have not received a book when I have been number one on the hold list and the computer shows that it is sitting on the shelf of one of the branches.
Now they have deleted that part of the software program so you no longer can tell where you are on the hold list. This to me is unacceptable and leaves it up to the whim of each library staff to do what ever with the book you have requested. You no longer will be able to track your progress on the hold list.
If you feel the same way please contact your county commissioner and file a complaint and ask them to please have the library change their system back to provide us with that information.

I use the one across from CVS off 466. I only use it because I can get there in a golf cart. What I don't like is that they can not notify you by email when a requested book is in, they have to use the phone, pretty archaic I think.
I live in Lady Lake which has a beautiful big new libray, but it's location is off the beaten path, although I know I can get any book I want there, if they don't have it, they buy it because they are still trying to fill all the new shelves ! They do notify you by email.

I agree. I asked the lady behind the desk and she said that they removed the number of people on the hold list because it as not accurate, I told her it was better than nothing. At least I knew how many books to order at one time.
I will file a complaint once I figure out where. I have to go to the library tomorrow to pick up a book so hopefully I will get the information.

I agree. I have asked them about this and never got a direct answer. But they did ask for my email address.

I talked to the lady at the TV Belvedere branch and she said that many people have complained about the wait queue number being deleted. She said the best thing would be to fill put the survey and return it to the survey box. If you do not want to fill out the entire survey, just write "see comment section" and make your comment about the queue number being removed.
I also asked about emailing the information about books being in and she said that they were working on it but it did not seem like a high demand item to me.
This is what I put in the comment section: I am very displeased with you removing the queue number for books on the waiting list on the online system. Even though it might not be accurate it gave me an idea where the books were in the queue. When I order three or more books I check the queue and if I do not have one or two that were at 1 or 2 in the queue I order a couple of older books just to hae something to read. Plese consider putting the queue number back.
Has anyone asked them whether they will be participating in providing books for e-readers?

I wrote to the Sumter County Library Advisory Board to complain about the removal of numbers from the waiting list. I forgot to talk about the email notifications. Their address, for those that want to write them, is:

I had placed holds for 3 books. When I looked yesterday, the holds were gone, just said "unavailable" for all 3 books. I went to the library later and one of the books was on the "New" shelf. Weird.

I went in that library today, there was a sign on the door that said the computer system is being updated on August 17th and 18th I think. Maybe just maybe they will have email notifications. The person I asked claimed not to know, everyone else seemed busy, I decided not to make an issue out of it. I'll wait and see what happens.

I signed into the Sumter on-line system today and the queue numbers are back!! I guess all of our calls and letters, etc paid off. The article in Sunday's Daily Sun probably helped also.
