We enjoy swimming laps in the sports pools but have received conflicting information about their length. We do know they are not as long as an "olympic" pool but would love to find out how many laps make a mile.
Anyone know?

I think they are twenty five yards, which would be around seventy lengths to the mile (70.4)

I believe it is 72 lengths to make a mile, or in other words, 36 laps. Think that's standard for all the sports pools.

:agree::agree::agree:
5280/3/25 = 70.4
Probably some swimming rule that makes one lap equal to up and back and .4 of up into up and back.
a mile = 1609 meters/25 = 64.36

Probably 25 yards. American Construction workers have no idea what a meter is other than something you park your truck next to.

None of these pools are "Olympic Length"..............which Is 50 meters long by 8 competition lanes. However, that term is used quite often for a short course pool length of 25 yards. I believe all the pools I've seen are in that length.
You might contact the VAST swimming coach here in the Villages. He'd know for sure!!

Also, remember that a "lap" is up and down the length of a pool, while the "length" swim is only up a lane. As to a mile of swimming in a short course pool, (25 yds), it take 18 laps to equal a 1/4 mile of swimming.
Hope that helps you.

I believe you meant 1/2 mile, 36 laps equal a mile.
