You did not get a weather warning because there was not wind speed that could be damaging nor was there large hail. The calls are prompted by NOAA weather warnings.

Our weather radio has been warning for Marion County severe thunderstorms. We chose on our weather radio the 4 specific counties around us to receive warnings about.
Marion County was the only county under alert for severe thunderstorms. Storms that qualify for the warning must meet certain criteria.
Severe Thunderstorm Warning (SVR) Issued when a thunderstorm produces hail 1 inch (27 mm) or larger in diameter and/or winds which equal or exceed 58 mph (93 km/h). Severe thunderstorms can result in the loss of life and/or property. Information in this warning includes: where the storm is, what towns will be affected, and the primary threat associated with the storm. Tornadoes can also and do develop in severe thunderstorms without the issuance of a tornado warning.

I signed up for the 'Code Red' severe weather warning system where you receive an automated call whenever there is a severe weather alert. I received my first call the second week I was here which I thought was great and it was a doozy of a storm. I did receive a call today but it came about 10 minutes after the storm had passed through. Go figure.....

I purchased a weather alert radio when we first moved here 2 1/2 years ago. I got it at Publix and the instructions said to take it to our nearest fire station and they will program it for you. We did it and it works perfectly. Today it went off several times before the storm hit. I do not know about other units but, maybe they just need to be programed. Hope this helps.

I believe the Fire Dept will program a weather radio for Sumter and the surrounding counties. Our radio did not go off for the storm Saturday afternoon but we did have numerous warnings for Marion county I believe Friday evening.
My suggestion is to at least have Sumter, Lake, Marion and Citrus counties added to a weather radio. Better safe than sorry.
My radio went off for Marion. I live in Mira Mesa and it's about a half mile to Sumter and maybe a 2 miles to Marion. I have all 3 counties set in my wx radio.
