Minimum/Maximum Cost for Enclosing a Lanai

We are coming in September to order our house which will be located on Tamarind Grove Run. We are looking to enclose a 20 x 12 Lanai with acrylic windows. Does anyone have a ballpark minimum/maximum cost of doing this? Thanks for your information.

I had mine done for $4000.00 with Abasher Const two months ago it was tinted acrylic. It is a great thing toi do as it keeps the lanai nice and clean.
Cleaning needs to be done with care. They did a great job.

Thanks for the information! We were thinking about tinting the acrylic on just the sides of the lanai and having the back clear.

As a side thought, I'd check the difference between acryllic and glass, epecially low-E glass.... My glass was a great decision and the cost wasn't that much difference. Many posts on here validate that as well.,.

Agree with the above post...my contractor pointed out the differences between acrylic and glass and even with Low E glass there was not that big a difference. Low e glass will make a tremendous difference especially of your lanai faces any part of the west PLUS and a BIG point here in florida is glass windows must withstand 120 MPH winds in florida where acrylic is only 70mph.

We are also thinking about enclosing the lanai... Any Good/Bad experience with a contractor?? Any suggestions on who to talk to.. We are also thinking about the solar tubes... Any thoughts??

Glass is the way to go and the cost is not much higher than acrylic. We used White aluminum and were very satisfied.

I asked this awhile ago and someone said it only raises your taxes if you duct heat and air out to it because then it is actual living space. Anyone know if this is true?

WE enclosed our lanai with glass sliders about 18 months ago with heat/ac included...no increase in taxes.

Any increase in taxes should be the least of your worries.....total comfort should be primary. ANy tax incease, if it should occur, would be a minimal increase since you are already paying taxes on a screened in lanai.

Another vote for Jamie Stevens Construction (http://www.jammiestevens.com/). He did an excellent job with mine. And if you choose glass, he will use the correct wording on the permit applacation so that it will not increase your property tax.

Sorry, can’t remember. Also, I’m in Marion county so the rules may be different in Sumter or Lake counties. Call Jamie, he or his staff can tell you.

We live in Sumter and when the inspector came he said the lanai will not increase our taxes. Something about stepping down onto the lanai.
We also have air on the lanai. My neighbors had their lanai enclosed and their taxes remained the same.:a040:

Also be aware the vinyl tec type windows have an average life expectancy of ten years and will need to be replaced. Before someone jumps on and says not true mine are twelve years old, remember I said average. It will depend on the direction they face. Southern facing windows will get beat up faster and not last as long as Northern facing windows. Just something to consider when making your decision. We replaced ours with glass but would have chosen glass first had we known.
