Was just contacted on my cellphone (we do have a land-line) by an automated voice saying "This is XYZ Bank and we have observed some unusual activity on your bank debit card so we deactivated it! If you want to activate it, please press one and then key in your bank card for activation!" I hung up!!! First of all, XYZ Bank, isn't who we deal with AND why did they call on the cell when we have a land-line! Spoke very loudly of SCAM!!! So beware folks!!!!

JenAjd, Thanks for the "heads up". Will these scammers never give up or stop thinking of ways to separate honest people from their hard earned money?

The latest scam seems to revolve around red light cameras and the resulting tickets. There was a piece on the TV news (ABC, Channel 9 Local News at 6, I think) just this past week on this. Seems you get a phone call saying you were caught by a red light camera, haven't paid your fine, but they can take care of it over the phone. They want bank account info, etc., so they can deduct the fine from your account. Threats of an arrest warrant if the fine is not paid are also a part of the scam, for those reluctant to part with their personal bank account information. IT IS ALL A SCAM! Everything relating to red light camera tickets is done by mail - not phone. Apparently Orlando and area has been hit with this scam but I do not know of anyone in TV who has (yet!).

Thanks for mentioning that one Bryan. I caught part of it on TV. You're absolutely right about this type of thing being handled through the mail. The DMV or PD will mail you a picture of yourself in your car. I wonder how long it will be before hackers start hacking into the cameras to get in on this one. Red light cameras are a bad thing for the public. Just another invasion of privacy if you ask me.

To GeorgeT,
Don't run red lights and you won't have to worry about getting your picture taken. Way to many "red light runners" around here. I have come close to being hit by these jerks a couple times. So now, I wait a second or two when my light turns green to see if some jerk is going to run his red light.

Hello FB,
FB,
Gee wiz, thanks for the great advice, why didn't I think of that?? I don't run red lights. :police:
My point was that hackers could easily hack into the red light camera. The red light camera is nothing more than a money generator for the city. Instead of waiting a second or two before you proceed through a green light why don't you just look both ways first. There's always someone behind you that will blow the horn if the light turns green and nobody moves. I hate the impatiences of some people but that's how it is sometimes.
