Whew this packing up to move in 6 weeks and get a house ready to put on the market ASAP is exhausting. Other than lots of rest....after I unpack in TV mid October what would be the first things I should plan to do?

Get your driver's license, register the car, register to vote, buy a golf cart and get ready to write lot of checks.

MOMESU,
Take some time to relax. Drive around a lot in your car and cart, learn where all of the stores are, meet your neighbors, check your sprinkler timer, get a lawn and bug guy, oh, did I say take some time to relax?
Welcome

MOMESU ... go up to one of the squares during Happy Hour and get a double of your beverage of choice, listen to the music, watch the line dancers, meet some of your fellow Villagers, and soak in the lifestyle that brought you to this wonderful place ... it is now YOUR lifestyle ... and do all those necessary things suggested above ... tomorrow .. WELCOME!

I believe you need Florida issued Auto Insurance to get a driver's license and register your car.

Yes this will be truly the start of a new life for me. I have lots to learn and experience. I am both excited and scared out of mu mind over this big move and change for me, but I can't wait for it to happen. I'm used to ups and downs in life but hopefully will be shedding many downs with this move....like no more snow shoveling!

Smart move!
Congratulations, first of all. Secondly, when you get here, stand outside your new home, take a deep breath, relax every muscle in your body, smile and enjoy what you see. After that, you've had lots of wonderful suggestions.
Welcome home, Suzanne!

Suzanne,
Congrats on this new phase of your life! While renting before our purchase last year we met some wonderful folks. BTW, two of our rental experiences were in Sabal Chase! The folks at the pool invited us to their pizza parties. I am certain that you will be comfortable with your decision. Enjoy!

tainsley, LOL you don't want a golf cart lesson from me!! I had a few people actually pass me on the golf cart paths when I was in TV in July. But toward the end of my visit in July I was getting up to 20 mph on the golf cart paths -- zoom, zoom. I will have to refresh my golf cart driving skills in October. And I will have to learn the golf cart paths south of 466 as I didn't take the golf cart past Spanish Springs in July.

Suzanne, Much good advice already. One thing is that you get start a new life from the beginning, as in start all over. You can be the person you always wanted to be and have the life you only dreamed of. It is just a rare opportunity that comes with a move to such a beautiful and friendly place. Fun

Everyday we took a walk around the neighborhood and said hello to anyone outside. If they seemed like an extroverted people we chatted for a while. Couple of times we were invited over for drinks, so we reciprocated in kind also. That's how we made our first friends. Today, I received a personal message on TOTV from a couple we made friends at the mail box. I commented on how great his golf cart was. He showed me all the bell and whistles on his cart and later we visited their house. This was during the first week of being there. One thing we did and should't do was to walk one hole of the golf course and chat with people after they had hit their balls. They were friendly but immediately thereafter, we saw marshal's cart come our way. He was nice but told us we can't do this. As a golfer, I knew that but just wanted to test how far we could go to make friends.:)

South of 466 well that would be me........I just need to develop a "Little Train" attitude. I think I can, I think I can..........if not I'll walk!. :undecided: I've thought of a bike but that could be even more dangerous since I haven't riden one in over 30 years.....

momesu - you have so many good suggestions re what to do - yet no one has suggested my favorite tradition - after freshening up from the drive and making yourself comfortable, pop your favorite bottle of bubbly and pour a tall one to enjoy on your lanai or out front in the driveway [you're sure to meet a new neighhbir that way!].
when we moved into our home in the villages we had travelled with a chilled bottle of rose regale and two flutes to make sure that we would be prepared to start enjoying ourselves right from the git-go! it is a celebration that you truly deserve!

Hi Sadie-yikes we leave in one week to move into our new life in Amelia Village. Sitting here in Northern MI making our lists, trying to decide delivery dates on new furniture, which we bought in April except no mattresses!! Still trying to decide TV/internet service. Trying to make sure we have all our important papers. My sister is having a going away party for us next saturday and then on the road sunday and like you while not a shrink have spent the last 40 years in medicine with many great friends and colleagues. Maybe we will see you at the new member orientation in September.
