Has anybody heard this? We have friends who are TV Cheerleaders and they said their performances (annually since who knows when) like 9/11, Veterans Day etc. have been removed from TV calendars.

Does not sound right to me, however, those of you who are "connected" may know the real story?!?!?

BTK .... TV is showing 9/11 as Patriot's Day; here is text of what was in monthly email I get on upcoming events. I bolded the mention of the Cheerleaders. So, I'm not real sure what she was talking about:

IN HONOR OF PATRIOT DAY
Sunday, September 11, 2011
The Villages Spanish Springs Town Square
The Villages Twirlers & Drum Corps Patriotic Performance 5:45pm
Sweet & Sassy Line Dance Team Patriotic Performance 6:45pm
The Prime Time Twirlers Patriotic Performance 7:45pm
The Villages Lake Sumter Landing Market Square
The Prime Time Twirlers Patriotic Performance 4:45pm
The Villages Cheerleaders Patriotic Performance 5:45pm
The Villages Twirlers & Drum Corps Patriotic Performance 6:45pm
Silver Rockettes Patriotic Performance 7:45pm

Statement does not appear consistent with this posting by The Villages Entertainment Department for September 2011 events:

"IN HONOR OF PATRIOT DAY
Sunday, September 11, 2011
The Villages Spanish Springs Town Square
The Villages Twirlers & Drum Corps Patriotic Performance 5:45pm
Sweet & Sassy Line Dance Team Patriotic Performance 6:45pm
The Prime Time Twirlers Patriotic Performance 7:45pm
The Villages Lake Sumter Landing Market Square
The Prime Time Twirlers Patriotic Performance 4:45pm
The Villages Cheerleaders Patriotic Performance 5:45pm
The Villages Twirlers & Drum Corps Patriotic Performance 6:45pm
Silver Rockettes Patriotic Performance 7:45pm"

After seeing your responses I did a little more digging and the removal is not in 2011, but purported to be in effect in 2012.

Yup, on advice of council, The Villages will no longer have any patriotic events. Guess that means Patriot's Day, Memorial Day, Veteran's Day, Flag Day, Fourth of July, etc. will not be celebrated here like they used to. The Villages does not want to be a future target of terrorism.

To me... sound like Al-Qaeda has won here. :ohdear:

What counsel provided that advice?

It figures that America's friendliest home town, as long as the lawyers approve of what is done.

There is more to the story/rumor/cause/what ever. Patriotism does not need a lawyer to declare what is "safe" to participate in unless they are getting complaints from radical Muslims that are over 55!!!!

Eventually the real issue will surface when TV officials are confronted with the issue in a public quorum.

At some point they will obviously reach the same conclusion on Christmas trees and the lighting parties!!!

Certainly some one within the TOTV membership has a connection to some one in TV chain of command to refute or confirm this stupid decision, if it is in fact a truism!?!?

Wait a minute. This thread started with OP asking about a rumor that the cheerleaders won't be among the entertainment at patriotic events and the next thing you know, the rumor becomes there will not be any patriotic events and the next thing you know speculation is started that there won't be Christmas trees.

I'm starting a rumor that next year, TV will continue with patriotic events and Christmas trees but that someone will start a rumor that they will all be gone in 2013.

Obviously if someone wants to get down to the bottom of this, contact Nadia Skertich in the Entertainment Dept

Also another resource would be the VHA - "Dedicated to preserving and enhancing the values of our Lifestyles and homes".

http://www.thevha.net

or

The POA - "Representing all property owners of The Villages in Lady Lake, Florida; Lake County; Sumter County; and Marion County".
http://poa4us.org/

One man I know is VP for one of the local clubs. He job as VP is to deal with parades. He HEARD (rumor - not confirmed) that there will be no parades in 2012 in TV. Maybe this is where this story all comes from.
Mixing the pedestrian traffic & carts and strolling performers on the narrow streets of the squares could be deemed somewhat dangerous.

BECAUSE the cheerleaders had no "usual" patriotic parade celebrations scheduled in 2012 that posed the question IF TV will not be having them anymore in 2012. Hell the world is gonna end with the Mayan calendar. Just when we are becoming FROGS....... NO 4th of July??? HOW RUDE!!!!!!! No Memorial Day to thank our troops? THAT is just WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why would al quada target me, an old useless geezer? Afraid of my gas? (merit to that fear) Afraid I might curse them? Beat 'em with a 9 iron? What makes TV a target? I say NUTS let's do our own thing!!!!!!

GOD Bless America

I sent an email to Janet Tutt, VCDD District Manager asking if she could shed some light on the rumor.
She responded (within 2 hours) by attaching two emails she felt would clarify what transpired.
I have removed any email addresses from the two emails.
It is unfortunate that some of the posters on this thread advanced and added to the rumor and that over 1000 people viewed the rumor. They in turn probably told another thousand people and so it goes.

Hello Friends,

Below is a message which I sent and which I have since learned was incorrect and contained incomplete information.

I apologize for sending on wrong information and not checking elsewhere for the right information.

The Villages does over and above what it can to meet the needs and wants of the residents, including honoring our military.

It is not necessary to contact the Entertainment Dept. nor the Recreation Dept. other than to thank them for jobs well done.

If you sent this message to someone else, please let them know that the information is wrong.

I am sorry for the mis-information sent by me.

The other change that's coming is that for celebrations like St. Patrick's Day, Columbus (Italian Fest.) Day, October Fest., etc., The Villages will no longer have two simultaneous parades (one at each square). Instead they plan on having one huge parade at alternating locations, first LSL, then the next holiday at SpSp. Whereas now residents arrive about 2:45 for the 4:45 parade, they will start getting to the squares about 12:45 because the staging area will be much larger than before and the parking and seating will be at a minimum. Plus there's likely to be more vendors crammed into one square too.

Sounds like a good idea, right?

Of course it's a fact. I don't spread rumors.

For Italian Fest., on Friday, 10/7/11, the parade will only be at Lake Sumter Landing.
For October Fest., on Thursday, 10/27/11, the parade will only be at Spanish Springs.
No parade for Veteran's Day on Friday, 11/11/11.
