A life of government guarantees and controls is not a formula for building wealth by Star Parker. It's a quick read at this link-
http://www.urbancure.org/article.asp?id=3279&tag=
Star Parker is the founder and president of CURE, the Center for Urban Renewal Education, a 501(c)(3) non-profit think tank which promotes market based public policy to fight poverty.

Before involvement in social activism, Star Parker had seven years of first-hand experience in the grip of welfare dependency. Now, as a social policy consultant, Star is bringing new energy to policy discussions on how to transition America's poor from government dependency.

She is a sought after expert on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC and for national radio, television, and print interviews, nationwide.

Personal choices in life have a lot to do with outcomes, specifically considering that every person in the nation is offered a free public school education, and lowest-income students have far more access to public financial aid for college than do middle- and upper-middle class students.

Ain't that the truth. I was just reading more of Star's articles...from the same website, subtitle to "Why Do Blacks Let Obama Off the Hook?" reads "Almost a half-century since the passage of the Civil Rights Act, too many blacks still don't want to be free and accept the responsibilities that go with it."
Last year I read her book "Uncle Sam's Plantation". Quite interesting also. She is someone whom I will support at every opportunity!

And don't forget the multitude of programs and help and benefits and $$$ poured into the pockets of illegal aliens....much of which legal Americans are not entitled to or have access to....

As stated in the Washington Post today:

There was a time, for example, that disaster relief money was a foregone conclusion. And yet here we are, in the wake of a hurricane that has devastated parts of New York and Vermont, being told by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) that disaster aid can come only after spending cuts. As Paul Krugman rightly notes, “In effect, Mr. Cantor and his allies are threatening to take hurricane victims hostage, using their suffering as a bargaining chip.”

Waynet -

You joke about that but there actually people with such wishes.

One of my former co-workers was a Vietnam vet and had both eardrums "blown out" from being too close to a big gun when it went off. He has to wear hearing aids in both ears and receives a sizable veterans compensation check each month. Another one of co-workers (also a Vietnam vet) actually said to him, "You sure are lucky to get all that tax-free money. Sure wish I had a disablility like that." Our friend said to him that he would gladly give back every bit of the compensation money if his hearing was restored.

Yep, some mighty strange people out there. Yes, I knew you were joking but thought you might enjoy the story.

Yes, no time in history has poverty been so luxurious. Today, poverty consists of color television, cell phones, food stamps, automobiles, free rent etc.,etc.
Sure is alot of incentives to get off the dole, huh?

Village Golfer,

If you think it would be fun to be poor, why not take a vacation and go to the Anacostia area in Washington DC, Cabrini Green in Chicago, East Los Angeles, or Ward 9 of New Orleans and stay in one of the local's apartments?

Live as they do for a month with them and then post a message saying how much fun you had.

I happen to know that there are many people that have figured the way to beat the system. They are not poor but they are lazy. They know every trick in the book to get on these welfare plans and live a reasonably good life.

True they are taking away from the true poor but since it is so easy they take advantage of it.

45,183,931: The number of Americans receiving food stamps as of June 2011, only the second month in history with more than 45 million food stamp recipients. Today, 14.5 percent of Americans receive food stamps, an increase of 40 percent since President Obama took office.

Apparently this regime in the White House has made it easier to get food stamps since it has increased 40% since Obama took office

Hello! They sell the foodstamps to their brothers, and use the case for cell phones, cigarettes, booze, drugs, jewelry, manicures, etc...while their kids live in squalor. My Dad was a lineman 40 years at the Edison Electric Co. He tried a stint as an office person. He went back to climbing poles because he could no longer stomach going to their homes to turn of the power where the kids weren't warmly dressed. Caddy in the driveway, gold covered adults, big TV while kids sat on bare floors with no shoes or sock in January!

I have a family member who applied for welfare because he lost his job driving a NYC Taxi and didn't want to drive at night as a new hire for a different company. He applied for welfare, as a lark, and was accepted. He is disabled and that helped, although he has a degree in accounting from a very good college. He then applied for SSI and was rejected. On appeal he was accepted and received a years retroactive SSI payments and the medical benefits that go with it. He's been on the dole for the past 30 years or so, still with that college degree in his pocket. Why?; because it's comfortable enough, he has a rent controlled apartment and he eats regularly. How many more people are comfortable enough to forget about working?

There are always exceptions and outliers just as there are with the rabid right wing posters who don't represent the vast majority of the most conservative ilk. The vast majority of people who find themselves relying are public assistance would rather not. I know, I worked in the public social service system for many, many years. :cus:

So why does the ENABLING continue? Somebody has to start placing some limits on the dependency and push people out of the nest so they have a reason to TRY to fly on their own.

Oh. I forgot. Stopping the enabling is great campaign material to use in hateful accusations of "cruelty" and "bigotry" of the other party.

Excellent post Richie. The key word is comfortable. Our ancestors struggled every day to feed and clothe their family. America was founded by people who woke up every day and struggled to clear their land feed their livestock and plant their crops. They got up before the sun and worked until the sun set. Their only comfort was Sunday when they praised their lord and rested.

Taking charity from the government would not have been an option. Where is that pride of our ancestors? Over 45 million collecting food from the government? That is absolutely horrible. People used to chop wood or do anything for a meal. Now the government gives it to you and puts it on the deficit. Really, is this going to be our attitude forever? Is there no pride?

This is pretty much what Star Parker is saying. People are stripped of their pride and dignity because the left perpetuates the need to be at the teat of the government. She is a brilliant black woman who believed the liberal lies. She has broken free and is working to teach others how to be free also. It is difficult tho, just like when a crab tries to escape the bucket and the other crabs keep pulling it back down in.

Abraham Lincoln:

"Property is the fruit of labor. Property is desirable, is a positive good in the world. That some should be rich shows that others may become rich and hence is just encouragement to industry and enterprise. Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another, but let him work diligently to build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence."

Definition of THEY
1a : those ones —used as third person pronoun serving as the plural of he, she, or it or referring to a group of two or more individuals not all of the same sex <they dance well> b : 1he 2 —often used with an indefinite third person singular antecedent <everyone knew where they stood — E. L. Doctorow> <nobody has to go to school if they don't want to — N. Y. Times>
2: people 2 —used in a generic sense <as lazy as they come>

as from Websters dictionary-http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/they
Sorry, can't help you as I see no reference to the race of the individuals in the definition.

This is going to be a long campaign and there should be a good give and take debate. But it is going to go nowhere if liberals use the race card every time they are void of logical answers to peoples posts. Racism is a wild card that has expired a long tome ago.

Buggyone: I understand your issue as I also am very concerned about the Poor and those that try and try, but fall short of being able to make it. As much as I want to become a shield for your gallantry, you have not separated these two groups from the LAZY. Unfortunately the lazy make up the larger part of the group that take full advantage of the Government Hand Out. I agree with the rest on this post, that they, them, those are appallingly sickening to me. EVEN WORSE is that our government does not just let them get away with it, it is encouraged.

Now that said, define your groups to those that definitely would contribute to society if they just could, and I will take up the argument in your defense.

Buggyone, here is the challenge you issued. No-one can claim to be a leader if he will not do what he asks of others. You select the neighborhood, we'll go there together and rent apartments/houses. Cabrimi Green has been gone for over a decade, but for the remaining neighborhoods, I would prefer ward 9 in New orleans. I enjoy that city. If another one is preferable to you, then we will go there.

I like it if it is contingent on that person getting job training and job search assistance. If the person doesn't fulfill his part of the bargain, his relief will come to an end. We've got to stop the lifetime charitable income at the expense of the taxpayer.
