View Full Version : Now I've Seen It All

OK, so I'm coming up Bailey Trail in my car when I see this thing in the car lane passing a golf cart. As I got closer I saw that the thing was a modified golf cart made to look like a jet plane (sort of) with wings that extended from the roof maybe 3 feet on each side with a makeshift jet engine under each wing! I couldn't believe my eyes! Not only was it hard to pass the thing because of the 3 foot wing extending into the car lane but the idiot had the nerve (for lack of a better word) to attract even more attention to himself by passing other carts. What a fool! I can only imagine this thing trying to go through a tunnel.
Unbelievable!
Did anybody else see this fool or was I seeing things?

I think I seen him before. I do not take much stock in people who always try to draw attention towards themselves. Maybe he didn't get enough when he was an adolescent?

Hope that there is a lot more to see then something like that to make me think "Now I've seen it all."

Group, I had the pleasure of meeting him and his wife. He is a nice guy. He is a pilot that modified his golf cart to resemble a plane. I thought it was very creative when I saw it. While you may feel he is a fool, I think he is a very interesting person that I enjoyed talking to. I am sorry if you felt he was being wreckless on the road. Instead of thinking he is being dangerous why not think of it as he is trying to enjoy his life in the villages like the rest of us. While I have seen some pretty bad drivers in the Villages, I guess sooner or later we will all get older and our driving will look reckless to the next younger generation. I hope I am lucky enough to modify my golf cart and enjoy my time in the villages. I guess we are all a fool in somebodys eyes. I am sure I am by replying to this. I am just saying. :)

One thing we all have to remember is, no matter what you do, someone will always want to rain on your parade. Just human nature. Ignore those folks is the best advise that I have ever been giving and that was by my long departed Grandfather.

I don't really care how nice of a guy he is. He was driving recklessly and I'm sure he would have gotten a ticket if the police had seen him. He didn't "look" reckless, he was reckless. Tell him I said he should come in for a landing. When he causes an accident you can tell the victim of his recklessness that hey, he's a nice guy. I'm sure that will make it alright.

I would like to see this cart, too.
Your post reminds us that we all came here to enjoy...and I'm sure this cart was a treat for this individual to assemble. Okay, there might make be a bit of a problem with the width, but if it becomes bothersome to owner and others, hopefully the owner will recognize that and make adjustments. Maybe bring in the wings just a tad.... ;) Now I have to be on the lookout for a very LOW flying airplane.

The distance between the car lane and the golf cart lane is scary enough as it is. I have seen many vehicle too afraid to drive past golf carts in normal traffic.

It seems to me that the problem here is not rather or not this gentleman was driving improperly or unsafely..that seems to be a given...I think the issue is the reaction many of us have in hearing (reading?) a fellow villager being referred to as an idiot and a fool. If the original post had been expressing the belief that an individual is driving around in a vehicle that seems unsafe to others and that maybe someone should address this, it would have been received better. I give you credit new peeps for defending this person. It is one thing to express an opinion on someones actions, it is totally different when the person himself is being attacked.

You don't need a 'break'..all you need to do is address the action, not the person. Individual attacks lead to defensive postures. As you can see by this, I am not attacking you at all, you may be the nicest person in the world, but I am commenting on your actions. There is a difference and it makes for a much more civilized world.

Well said George T-your post is right on-keep on posting!
Okay the size of the cart has been discussed, posters have been reminded that they should address the situation and not attack the owner, or the initial poster, but no one has offered a suggestion as to how one should deal with what is felt to be a dangerous vehicle on the cart path. It's easy to bi**h, but that only makes the person complaining feel better and doesn't address a possible solution to a difficult situation. Any suggestions as to how to deal with things?

Beyond the city strife
We highly treasure
And take great pleasure
In our plain way of life
Feudin' and fussin' and a-fightin'
Sometimes it gets to be excitin'
Don't like them ornery neighbors down by the creek
We'll be plumb out of neighbors next week

I'm not trying to be contrary tonight, I just want to find out if people who complain can offer a suggestion as to how the situation can be handled...and if they are willing to do something about it. I will call the police if I see this particular cart causing what I see as a driving hazard.
The police will then decide if the vehicle is properly outfitted and driven safely and legally.
I doubt that the police or a traffic court judge/magistrate will consider the driver's niceness and love of piloting aircraft as an excuse for hazardous driving or passing.

Thank you for your thoughtful way to deal with this situation AND for offering the possibility that this was NOT his usual method for getting around the community. Many times people see something, draw their own conclusions, not always based on fact, and the situation escalates into more than it really and truly is.

True, but did you read new peeps post....maybe it's not the way he generally drives around the community. If it is indeed used in parades or shown at events, it has to get from home to the event. Could be what was seen today....car show.

I do understand some people just like to complain, its their nature. However, it's threads like this along with many others that cause me to think do I really want to live in TV?
We will be in TV Sept 14th and I am sure once we see it live and in living color all doubts will disappear. When we do purchase a home in TV I pray we don't end up with complaining neighbors who choose to live their lives insulting others.
By the way, if I saw a golf cart that looked like a jet plane it would make me smile! I can't wait until we buy one and get it customized.

I would love to see this much concern for safety expressed everyday here on TOTV with regard to the absolutely rampant hazardous conditions in the roundabouts and nearly total disregard for speed limits by both autos and golf carts.
One of my Bonita neighbors passed my auto in his golf cart on Homeland today (my mistake for observing the 15mph speed limit) and nearly ran over two seniors and a shih tzu.
What has happened to concern for the safety of our friends and neighbors?

I do understand some people just like to complain, its their nature. However, it's threads like this along with many others that cause me to think do I really want to live in TV?
We will be in TV Sept 14th and I am sure once we see it live and in living color all doubts will disappear. When we do purchase a home in TV I pray we don't end up with complaining neighbors who choose to live their lives insulting others.
By the way, if I saw a golf cart that looked like a jet plane it would make me smile! I can't wait until we buy one and get it customized.
Diane...don't worry about it...this is a rarity. Have fun and please contact me when you get back. I can't wait to hear about your trip!!! Let's get together with the others again and compare notes.

So sorry that you interpret my thread as complaining when it's clearly a safety issue. Secondly, I did smile when I saw it in fact I LMAO. And then prayed he didn't kill someone or himself.
I guess the philosophy should be ....As long as it doesn't hurt me then who cares.
I have requested that admin close this thread.

Now just picture what the guy would put in his yard and on the house, if not for deed restrictions like no campaign signs in the yard (being discussed in the other thread).

A reminder that whatever we drive we need to be careful....as all of us have the same goal to enjoy the Florida lifestyle as long as possible.
I drive my wife crazy all the time....but I'm careful....
