Obama is going to Ohio to schools to present 25 billion to go to schools. I said Hitler went after the school age kids to promote work on the future of the Nazi's, gee I wonder where Obama gets his ideas. Dont mean to say it but I told you. Not saying the dems are bad or good just saying Obama is bad for this country and our way of life. And when we get him out he should get the secret service or the pension he would normally get. You need to go Bobama. Everyone is knocking the rep. the dems. need to get a good candidate themselves. Gobama out the door and out of this country.

You're not going to win people over with this kind of writing. There must be a way to express your thoughts on Obama's Ohio trip without resorting to the Nazi comparison. It stops the dialogue you desire cold.

Dont really care about dialog want people to remember history and how much it looks the same today and realize dont let happen again. I'm not running for office otherwise I'd be nice.

If you want to look for Nazi tactics, you can pin it to anyone.

George Bush and everyone in his administration said you were traitors if youdidn't agree with him.
Clinton wanted everyone forced into health care collectives
Bush Sr. was an ex spy-master.
Reagan presided over a huge arms buildup.

The list goes on and on when you cherry pick events and draw threadbare lines between events.

We shouldn't be spending one red cent on schools - god forbid !!!!!

Those billions could be better spent in Iraq looking for imaginary WMD's.

This is all such baloney and campaign talk from Obama. There are already dozens of state and federal programs in place to "redistribute" tax dollars directly toward school building projects!

Facility Funding in the U.S.

In the 2005-06 school year $54.3 billion was spent on public school facilities in the United States and an additional $16.3 billion was spent on interest on the debt from previous school facilities projects. In most states the majority of funding for school facilities comes from the individual school districts – usually through local property tax levies. Fiscal studies have shown that funding systems that rely too greatly on local school district funding can result in a vast disparity in the quantity and quality of school facilities between high- and low-wealth school districts.

Comprehensive State Capital Programs

Across the country there have been cases of low-wealth districts filing lawsuits against their states in an attempt to force the legislature to create a more equalized facility funding program.

In Arizona, New Mexico, Ohio and Wyoming school funding lawsuits have resulted in the creation of school facility programs, sometimes referred to as “Comprehensive State Capital Programs”, which have increased funding levels and attempted to direct more funding toward low-income/low-property-wealth school districts. While these new funding systems have provided additional funding to districts they have also resulted in the state taking over many of the construction and maintenance decisions from the local school districts.

Description of Comprehensive Systems

Below are examples of five states that have created Comprehensive State Capital Programs. This review shows that while the details of comprehensive state capital programs may differ there are several attributes they have in common:

· The state provides all, or nearly all, of the necessary funding to the lowest income school districts
· The funding priorities for capital projects are based on a combination of district wealth and facilities needs
· The state provides construction mandates and/or restrictions on school districts that participate in the program.....

Then, after reading that, if you have about 24 hours, read what's here in the National Clearinghouse for Educational Facilities:

Just wondering..What's wrong with tax dollars going to schools ?.Sure beats foreign aid to Pakistan...Isn't that an investment in the future of this country ?..Hopefully we can get away from straight shooters and burger flippers and more into acadamia, perhaps regain our leadership position in the world...

I do not support money going to government sponsored schools. The children are not learning but the teachers and associations are getting rich and putting the taxpayers in the poor house. Break up the whole education corporation and farm it out to private enterprise. I really mean this.

DDoug,
I am a democrat, and I vote based on issues and conditions as I perceive them. What I'm hearing about education from you folks is that you want "private enterprise" to take over schools? I don't understand how this would work, I mean would each parent pay to have their kids schooled, would the rich get a better education based on ability to pay as there would no longer be public schools, or would we contract out the teaching and management of school systems where corporate greed would play?.. I don't see a panacea from any of these...I do believe in pay per performance and that would help clean up schools a lot..As a matter of fact Obama actually put that in place by tying improvement to some federal monies and Pennsylvania lost a lot because the teachers there refused to allow it...Two years ago, Florida wass ranked 49th in the nation in dollars spent per student and their quality of output was in the bottom 10 states. That was reported on schooldigger.com a database, with all types of good info about each school in the entire nation..Don't ask how I know that but it's a long sad story..

the federal government should not be spending money on schools. That should be left to the states.
