Where is the best place to purchase flat screen televisions? Prefer LG brand.

Southern Trace Walmart had unbelievable selection and great prices. They even had a real genius who pointed out the differencs in all models. HH Gregg is always a good stop to compare prices too.

piashank,
Last year on "black Friday" the day after Thanksgiving, we purchased our flat screen television at the Walmart in Southern Trace. I remember that it was on sale for an incredible price. We are not in TV at this time so honestly cannot remember the brand of that particular unit.

I got a great deal at Sam's Club. They have a section of TV's that were returned but otherwise brand new and still under warranty.

I bought one of ours directly from Panasonic (AARP members can join a Panasonic club for lower prices) and I bought the bedroom TV online from a company called East Coast TV out of Linden , NJ. At that time last year, the same Samsung 8000 LED was more than $1000 more at Best Buy. It might be worth checking them out. Depending what they have in stock, you may save some serious $$$. When I bought, the policy was, it was delivered to or in your home, taken out of the box and plugged in to verify that it wasn't damaged, then you payed. They accepted check, cash and credit card, and if paying by cash, they gave you an extra 2% off. LG is an excellent brand, but also check out Samsung LED's, and Panasonic plasma's are top of the line.(heavier than LED, but the picture quality and price are superb). You can't go wrong with any of those brands, but try to audition all of them before buying, they all have distinct qualities.

Last year I started to buy my plasma from Amazon.com but decided at the last minute to look and touch the model at Best Buy first. Turned out they had a sale plus a free gift card on the model I wanted. Saved me over $250. Generally, Amazon has the best prices but once in a while local stores have good sales.
At the time, the leading consumer magazine rated Samsung LCDs and Panasonic plasmas as the best buys. We went with the Panasonic.

Costco has very good prices, an excellent return policy and if you use a Costco American Express Card you get a rebate and additional year warrenty. I know it's not close, but if you want to take a ride it may save you some cash.

Maybe it is just me - but I am very leery about buying expensive electronic devices over the Internet. I need to know what options these devices have - over and above what any Internet brochure tells me. It is harder to talk to the Internet than it is to a live person.
Andwhat happens if youwant to return it?
I bought my last big TV at Circuit City in TV. They are gone now so I cannot really recommend anyone.
I just wanted to voice my angst about buying big TV purchases over the Internet.

Ironically all the info you want on HDTVs IS on the internet. CNET.com will advise the best TVs there are to buy. There othe web sites that have reviews of top model HDTVs. To get more info go to the manufacturers web site to get all the specs. I purchased from an internet store based in NJ (Abe's of Maine) a Panasonic Plasma that was at least 25% less than Best Buy or any other store in my area. Paid to deliver and set up. If I had a problem I would not have accepted. Panasonic is very good and if you have a problem they will fix it. Each manufacturer will advise if they have in home service etc.
My advice is if you are not looking for a top model, going to Sams's club Walmart or Costo would get you the best prices on standard HDTVs.
I still like plasma the best.

We purchased our 46" Sony at Costco's. A few weeks later the price went down $200 and we went to service area and they credited our credit card the 200 bucks. That was sweet.

Another vote for Best Buy
just be sure you have done your research and know exactly what you want before you get there, or you'll be so confused you may come home with a food processor instead

In the past few years we have bought several electronics items, including two large screen tvs, from www.shopnbc.com - or from shopnbc's television shopping show. We found the prices very good compared to store prices for the same items, good extended warranty prices, delivery to our door, and very good customer service. We were able to do the easy setup of the tvs ourselves, but I think that you can add a charge to have the setup included with delivery (or, of course, pay someone locally to do that; but it was not hard to do). We have been very satisfied with the convenience of being able to order it from home and have it delivered within a few days. Also, they have on all of the items we have bought have given us the option of interest-free payments; even though we didn't do that, it was a nice option to have. All in all it has been a good experience.

You never know when you'll find a great deal on your favorite model so shopping around is the best way to find what you want. When I bought my 42" Philips, I started online (and yes, CNET is great!), and then started cruising the local stores. Circuit City was selling out at the time but I couldn't find what I wanted there; being in the home of Best Buy, I had to give them a try...still not quite what I wanted. I moved on to Walmart and found exactly what I wanted for the right price but out of curiosity, I checked Target and they had the exact same TV at the same exact price as Walmart. The only difference was that the TV at Target came with a stand and the TV at Walmart did not. I've had nothing but good luck with it ever since and saved a bunch of money.

I think Best Buy is the place to go. The best warranty and the best people.

Piashank, we bought our LG flat screen TV at Best Buy on Rt.441. They had a very good price on the one with the features we wanted.

Another vote for Walmart. That's where I purchased my 47" LG LED/LCD HDTV a year or two ago. It's a fantastic television.

I just wanted to voice my angst about buying big TV purchases over the Internet.
Recently, I had to do 2 returns on items bought on Amazon.com.
The first was an Ooma box that I was having trouble booting up. I called Ooma first to see if they could help me but they determined that the box was faulty. Ooma sent a replacement (even though I didn't buy directly from them) and included a pre-paid return label for the old box.
The second was a sewing machine that just didn't seem to work right after about 3 weeks. I went back to Amazon.com, clicked returns, answered a couple of questions and was able to print out a pre-paid return label. My credit card was credited back in in full in about a week.
Do your research on line or using a consumer magazine or go see the item first in the store, pick a reputable on line merchant and you can safely save some money. By the way, asking a salesperson in the store is usually the worst source of product information.

This is a little off the subject but if you are in the market for HDMI cables for your TV's the best place to buy them is Monoprice.com. I have been doing business with these people for a number of years and they have the best prices you can find.
